Chapter 182 Casual Chat
Noah opened his eyes and found himself surrounded by white. A pristine bed, and white walls. He looked down and noticed that his whole body was wrapped in bandages. Only a pair of calm-looking eyes were visible.
'Am I in a hospital?' Noah quickly realized what had happened. That day, after leaving the Benson family headquarters, he finally couldn't hold on any longer and fainted.
He had no other choice; his whole body was covered in wounds, and he had lost too much blood. It was already quite impressive that he had been able to hold on until he left the Benson family.
He looked toward the side of the bed and saw Lisa, lying there fast asleep. Her eyes were red, tears still evident at the corners. Even in her sleep, she looked worried, as if she was burdened by unsolvable sorrows. Her complexion seemed somewhat pale.
As if sensing movement, Lisa slowly opened her eyes and brightened up when she saw that Noah was awake, immediately rushing over to hug him tightly.
"Noah, you're finally awake...!" She started crying. "You've been unconscious for three days, and you lost too much blood. The doctors had to give you a lot of blood, I was afraid you wouldn't wake up...!"
Noah's heart warmed. Clearly, Lisa had been by his side for three days and nights.
"Don't cry, I'm awake now." Noah gently patted Lisa's back.
"Mhmm!" Lisa nodded, her big eyes still watery. "Noah, you haven't eaten for three days and nights. What do you want to eat? I can make it for you. Would you like some chicken soup?"
"No need to rush." Noah shook his head and asked, "By the way, where am I now?"
"This is Saint Mother Hospital in Oceanbridge City. Mason brought you here, along with a few people dressed in military combat uniforms," Lisa answered.
"Saint Mother Hospital?"
Noah's gaze flickered slightly. This was the best hospital in Oceanbridge City, equipped with the most advanced medical equipment and the best doctors, who were the top in the entire Starlight City.
He could probably guess who had given the order to send him to this hospital.
"What happened during the three days I was unconscious?" Noah asked again.
"Not much, just a lot of people came to see you and brought many gifts," Lisa replied.
"Some of them I know, like Mason, Max, Samuel, and one of them was surnamed John. I didn’t know him," she added.
Noah nodded. It was probably John Shen.
He looked at the table, which was filled with gifts, all of them incredibly valuable.
Ginseng, deer antler, Matsutake mushrooms, and Ganoderma lucidum...
These were all highly nourishing items.
"The people who came to visit you spoke to me very politely, and the gifts they brought were very expensive." Lisa's gaze fell upon the gifts.
"Just these alone are estimated to be worth over a million," she said.
"Sigh, how many times have I said it, that Noah is a good-for-nothing. He was asking for trouble by getting involved with Kyle's daughter. He deserved to be hospitalized! I really didn't want to come visit!" said Daniel from outside the hospital room.
"I feel the same, Dad. I didn't want to come either, but after all, we’re family. That good-for-nothing hasn't even divorced Lisa yet! Since he's in the hospital, we should at least come and visit, it's a matter of appearances!" Larry's voice followed.
"If our relatives find out that a family member is sick and we didn't visit him in the hospital, there will definitely be gossip! It's better to pay a visit and fulfill the formality," said Larry.
Creak...
The door to the hospital room opened, and Daniel, Larry, and Sarah walked in.
"Oh, Noah, you're awake?"
Larry was momentarily taken aback when he saw that Noah was awake. "Noah, you didn't hear what I said outside just now, did you?"
"Hmph, so what if he heard?" Daniel snorted. "I didn't want to visit this good-for-nothing in the first place. If Larry hadn’t dragged me here and I didn’t have to think about the gossip from relatives, I wouldn't have come! I’d much rather be sunbathing at the villa!"
"Oh, Noah, you have bandages all over your body, only your eyes are exposed. Looks like your injuries are quite serious!" Sarah looked Noah up and down, with a hint of schadenfreude in her eyes.
Sarah was naturally delighted when she saw Noah in such a sorry state.
She hadn't forgotten how much Noah had made her suffer in the past.
Sarah had been quite jealous of Noah's family after they moved into Summit Retreat Oasis.
Noah said flatly, "I'm fine."
"Well, well, well, I thought you, the useless one, had died at the Benson family! If you had died, Summit Retreat Oasis would belong to Lisa and me!''
Daniel shook his head, a look of disappointment in his eyes.
"But you didn't die, sigh! Seems like Kyle still had some sympathy for you, since he only beat you until you had serious injuries."
"Dad, come on. Noah is your son-in-law too. Why are you being disrespectful?" Lisa's expression immediately turned cold.
"Disrespectful? I'm being disrespectful?" Daniel stared. "This useless person is married to you and he still tried to flirt with Kyle's daughter. He thought he could climb up the social ladder. It's a moral issue! He deserved to be seriously injured and hospitalized! He should be thankful he didn’t die!"
"Dad..."
Lisa was furious. "I've already told you, Noah did not flirt with Lily. There’s nothing between them! Why don't you believe me?"
At this point, Larry also spoke up.
"I must say, Noah, you really messed up big time. You flirted with Lily, of all people. There’s a huge difference in social status between you two since she's Kyle's daughter. I really don't understand what you were thinking!"
"Maybe he thought that living in Summit Retreat Oasis would elevate his social status and make him worthy of Kyle's daughter!" Sarah said sarcastically.
"Noah, you have to learn from this. Don't have unrealistic ideas of climbing up the social ladder. If you don't have a job, just stay at home so Lisa can support you," Larry added.
"Oceanbridge City Holy Mother Hospital is one of the top hospitals in Starlight City. It’s even better than the Royal Hospital. You've been in the hospital for three days, and the expenses must be over a hundred thousand!"
Daniel looked around and clicked his tongue. "Noah, you're really good at living off other people. You couldn't live off the fortune of the rich, but you managed to live off my daughter, Lisa. I'm sure she's been paying for all these expenses in the past three days!"
"No, someone else is paying for it. I haven't spent a penny!"
Lisa shook her head. The doctor had told her that the expenses for treatment and hospitalization were being covered by someone else, but Lisa didn't know who it was.
"Hmph, do you think I believe you? Lisa, you’re great in every way, but you love defending your husband," Daniel sighed, then his gaze suddenly shifted to the table.
Numerous gifts were piled on top.
"Tsk tsk, so many gifts!"
Daniel approached and picked up a gift box, his eyes suddenly lighting up.
Three pieces of wild American ginseng were inside the box, priced at a staggering one hundred thousand dollars!
