Chapter 28 Emerald Palace Hotel
"You know, many investors have refused to invest in Pinnacle Wealth Management these days, but Joshua said he could help," Evelyn continued. "Joshua's father, Charles, is a real estate tycoon. He has many friends in finance. Surely, Joshua must've asked Charles for help."
"That must be it," Lisa said excitedly. "Joshua has indeed put a great deal of effort into this matter. Evelyn, you gotta make it up to him. You can't keep being so cold to him."
"I know!" Evelyn laughed. "He wanted to give me a sports car before. But I didn't accept it. I was just testing him! If this really works out, I might consider accepting his courtship."
"All right, enough talk for now. I'm gonna meet with the buyers to discuss the contract. Lisa, just wait for my good news!"
"Okay!"
After hanging up, Lisa excitedly hugged Noah. "Honey, we got an acquirer for our company! Once the funding issue is resolved, I don't have to worry about unemployment anymore!"
"Yeah. Congratulations!" Noah hugged Lisa, gently breathing in her lovely scent, and smiled as he spoke.
In the afternoon, Evelyn sent a message that the contract was signed. Pinnacle Wealth Management was acquired, and the buyers would inject funds to resolve the company's current financial distress.
Evelyn invited Lisa to celebrate over dinner at the Emerald Palace Hotel, extending the invitation to Noah as well.
Lisa accepted the invitation.
Emerald Palace Hotel is a three-star hotel in Oceanbridge City, not exactly low-tier.
Noah and Lisa drove there.
"Lisa, what is this?"
Seeing Noah and Lisa alighting from a Mercedes, Evelyn was momentarily surprised.
'The Mercedes E350L, that's at least 110,000 dollars, right?' Evelyn thought to herself.
"It's the new car we got," Lisa replied truthfully.
Noah handed the key to the valet and walked to Lisa's side.
"Noah asked you to buy it? How much was the down payment?" Evelyn looked at Noah. To her knowledge, Lisa wouldn't allow for the purchase of such an expensive car.
"No. And it was paid in full," Lisa replied.
"Paid in full?" Evelyn frowned, surprised that Lisa could come up with so much money.
She suddenly thought if that money could've been used to fix the leak at Pinnacle Wealth Management, she wouldn't have had to grovel before Joshua.
"All right. Let's go in and have dinner."
Evelyn's demeanor had turned much colder as the group entered the private room.
The room was spacious, with oil paintings hanging on the walls, adding a touch of class. The table was already set with dishes, all specialties from the Golden Coast area: roast duck, onion rings, fried chicken, and Platinum Hazel rounds. It was all quite appetizing.
The table was full. Evelyn placed Noah and Lisa together, with only two seats left.
"Today is the Pinnacle Wealth Management victory feast. Thank you all for being here."
Evelyn raised her glass and began with a smile, giving off an approachable and confident aura.
Those present were the senior executives of Pinnacle Wealth Management, except for Lisa, who was an accountant.
"Pinnacle Wealth Management was able to overcome this crisis largely thanks to Ms. Crowe's efforts!" a man remarked.
"Yeah. Ms. Crowe, without you, we would've been in real danger this time!" another man echoed.
"Ms. Crowe, you should get the most credit!" a woman said.
The executives began their flattery.
After a toast, Evelyn spoke, "It's not my credit. This time, we were able to make it through the crisis all because of Joshua's effort. It was he who helped me get in touch with Noah Capital."
"Noah Capital?" someone exclaimed.
Hearing this name, everyone at the table was shocked. They didn't expect their parent company to be Noah Capital.
Noah Capital had a tremendous influence, with three localized funds around the world, including Eagleland in their portfolio.
The fields they invested in included technology media, healthcare, consumer services, finance, and real estate. Basically, behind the giants of various industries, Noah Capital could be subtly detected.
"It's Noah Capital! Seems that Joshua's connections are beyond our measurement!" a man sighed.
"In front of such a major investor, our Pinnacle Wealth Management is like nothing!" another man commented.
"Mr. Berger can contact Noah Capital! He's truly amazing!" a woman remarked.
"We owe our gratitude to Mr. Berger!" another woman said.
"From today on, we're a subsidiary of Noah Capital!"
"I remember Noah Capital's Eagleland regional president is Mr. Napier."
The crowd was buzzing with speculation.
Suddenly, Evelyn's phone rang.
"Hello, Joshua."
Evelyn took the call from Joshua, and the whole room fell silent, not daring to speak for fear of disrupting their conversation.
"Joshua, I must thank you for helping Pinnacle Wealth Management to be acquired and overcoming this crisis," Evelyn said.
"What?" Joshua's voice was full of surprise on the other end. "I only mentioned it to my dad, and he hasn't replied to me yet!"
"Then your dad must've forgotten to tell you," Evelyn said. "Besides you, I can't think of anyone else who could've helped us this time."
"It must be so," Joshua agreed, thinking perhaps Charles was too busy to inform him after sorting out the matter.
"Joshua, come over to the Emerald Palace Hotel. We're having a celebration feast! You're a major contributor; you must join us!" Evelyn extended the invitation.
"Okay, I'll be there right away." Joshua was overjoyed. It was the first time Evelyn had actively invited him to dine.
This was a good sign!
Previously, Evelyn had always been cold towards him. He thought maybe after this event, she'd be won over.
Half an hour later, Joshua arrived.
He was dressed in a Versace suit, and his hair was slicked back, making him look very impressive.
"Mr. Berger!"
"Mr. Berger!"
The executives of Pinnacle Wealth Management stood to show respect.
Evelyn also stood up. "Joshua, here! If it hadn't been for you, we really wouldn't know how to get through this crisis."
She was all smiles. "Have a seat. We'll take turns toasting you soon!"
But when she looked around the table, her face suddenly showed a hint of embarrassment because the table was full, and there wasn't a single empty seat.
"Noah!"
Evelyn, quick-witted, turned to Noah and gestured to the corner:
"Go sit over there. You're just freeloaded anyway, an outsider."
In that corner was just a chair, with beer bottles and food carelessly thrown on the floor.
"Noah is here too?"
Hearing Evelyn's words, Joshua looked over. "This is Pinnacle Wealth Management's victory feast. What are you doing here?"
"Joshua, Noah is also on Evelyn's invitation list," Lisa interjected coldly.
"Yes, I did invite Noah," Evelyn said. "But the main issue now is that all the seats are taken. Joshua has contributed greatly to our company, so you can't have him sitting in a corner, can you?"
"Noah's just an outsider, and he didn't make any contributions to us. I don't think there's any problem letting him sit in a corner," an executive chimed in.
"I agree. He's here to freeload a meal anyway. What's wrong with that?" another one echoed.
When Lisa heard those words, her expression turned completely cold.
"Fair enough. Then I'll go with him!" she said.
