Chapter 356 Scumbag Bodhi
"No biggie, I don't mind," Noah said, shrugging it off. He really didn't care about such small stuff.
Audrey, totally misreading Noah's chill vibe, thought he was mad. "Noah, can you forgive me? I swear, I had no idea that GMC was your car. And I didn't know Mr. Moore knew you. If I had known, I wouldn't have said those things."
"And when I found out you were my Prince Charming, I was blown away. Looking back at the past few days working with you, I realized you have so many great qualities," Audrey rambled on. "For example, you're so humble. You drive a car worth over a million dollars but never show off. Your guitar skills are amazing, and if Mr. Vasquez hadn't pushed you, you wouldn't have shown them. Compared to you, Kurt's moral standards are on a way lower level."
"Also, you have a great personality. You never lose your temper easily and never look down on others."
"Alright, that's enough," Noah said, starting to get annoyed. "I have things to do. I'll hang up now."
With that, Noah ended the call.
On the other end, Audrey was left feeling bummed out. "Noah, why are you so impatient with me? I've already apologized! Is it because I'm not pretty enough for you?"
The more she thought about it, the more upset and wronged she felt.
After hanging up on Audrey, Noah started thinking about the environmental equipment business. With ten billion dollars already in the account, the money was more than enough. Now he needed to find someone to negotiate with the Harris family on his behalf. He had already decided on Bodhi.
'I wonder if he's finished dealing with his own issues,' Noah thought as he dialed Bodhi's number.
"Who is it?" A woman's voice answered, catching Noah off guard.
"Hi, I'm looking for Bodhi," Noah said politely.
"Looking for that loser? Didn't think he had any friends. Hold on," the woman sneered, followed by a shout, "Bodhi, stop scrubbing the toilet! Someone's looking for you! Friends of losers are usually losers too!"
"Don't be like that, it's rude."
"Rude? Why should I be polite to a loser?"
Footsteps followed, and then Bodhi's voice came on the line. "Who's this?"
"It's me," Noah replied.
"Noah," Bodhi's tone changed slightly.
"Who was that woman? Are you in trouble?" Noah asked.
"Not exactly, just some debts to her," Bodhi said with a hint of bitterness.
"Tell me about it. Maybe I can help," Noah offered.
"It's just some old love debt," Bodhi began. "I met Lyric ten years ago..."
Bodhi slowly recounted the story. Ten years ago, he and Lyric Vaughn were high school seniors who fell in love and had spent nights together. Their parents found out and were furious, so Bodhi and Lyric ran away to Silverlight City.
With no education or skills, they could only do menial jobs. Before they took off, Lyric swiped $100,000 from her family.
After a few months in Silverlight City, Lyric found out she was pregnant. Knowing they couldn't make it on their savings, Bodhi decided to head to Oceanbridge City to find better opportunities, promising to come back within a year.
Unexpectedly, that year turned into ten. In Oceanbridge City, Bodhi never hit it big and felt too ashamed to return. He never contacted Lyric, basically vanishing from her life.
Now, with Noah needing to handle business in Silverlight City, Bodhi finally got the guts to come back. Over the years, Lyric had become a nightclub owner worth millions, while Bodhi's assets were only in the tens of thousands. The child Lyric was carrying was also aborted because Bodhi never returned.
"Noah, do you think I'm a jerk?" Bodhi asked with a bitter smile.
"Yeah," Noah replied bluntly. "You made her wait ten years without a single call. What else would you be?"
"I know. That's why I've been working as a janitor at Lyric's nightclub, hoping she'll forgive me," Bodhi said. "It's the only way to ease my guilt. I still love her deeply."
"So, what's your plan for the future?" Noah asked.
"What plan? I'll stay at the nightclub until Lyric forgives me. I hurt her so much, and I feel really guilty," Bodhi sighed.
Noah didn't want to judge too much on Bodhi and Lyric's personal matters. "Then, can you spare some time tomorrow? I need a favor," he asked.
"I'll need to ask Lyric for time off. I'm her employee now," Bodhi replied.
"What's the name of her nightclub? I'll come over now," Noah said.
"Old Memories."
"Nice name. I'll be there soon," Noah said with a playful smile.
Meanwhile, at Old Memories, a woman in a red bikini asked Bodhi, "Who was on the phone?"
The woman, Lyric, was in her thirties, with an ordinary face and makeup. "A friend of mine wants me to help him with something," Bodhi replied.
"A loser's friend is also a loser! What can you guys do besides messing around?" Lyric sneered.
"No, Noah's not like that." Bodhi forced a smile.
"Friends, huh? Just a bunch of good-for-nothings!" Lyric rolled her eyes.
Noah hung up and drove to Old Memories. About an hour later, he arrived at the small nightclub in Silverlight City's Gold Valley District. The place was lit up with neon lights, and various cars were parked outside. Women in revealing outfits clung to men as they went in and out.
"Noah, you're here!" Bodhi greeted him with a big smile.
"Nice car. Your loser friend seems to have some money, Bodhi. Did he rent it?" Lyric said, eyeing Noah's GMC with a sneer.
