Chapter 74 Government Official
"I already said it at the entrance of Disney that day, Joshua." Max rolled his eyes. "Like father, like son. If your father is like that, then you, as his son, are the same. Both of you have this problem where you chase after a woman, get tired of playing with her, lose interest, and throw her away!"
Charles was slightly embarrassed when he heard that.
"That’s true." Joshua forced a smile.
"That day at Disney, you even told me that Evelyn was your girlfriend! I couldn't stop laughing!" Max burst into laughter.
"Alright, Max, I've already agreed to your request. Now let's talk business. Joshua, you can leave," Charles spoke up, and Joshua obediently exited the office.
"Garrett is dead. He died suddenly and inexplicably. I still don't know who did it." Charles's eyes gleamed.
"But now that he’s dead, the real estate industry in Oceanbridge City will definitely undergo a major shake-up. This is an extremely rare opportunity."
Now that they were talking about work, Max became serious. "That's right, the slum redevelopment project is the largest project in Oceanbridge City right now. With Garrett's death, one-third of the project is vacant."
"What we need to do now is find the person in charge, Lisa, and establish a good relationship with her. Maybe we can take advantage of this big opportunity!” Charles nodded in agreement.
“If you and I can seize this chance, we can take over Garrett's previous position and become the leader of the real estate industry in Oceanbridge City. To be honest, that position is very tempting," Charles added.
"I think so too," Garrett replied, patting his beer belly. The two cunning foxes had different ideas in their hearts.
...
The next evening, Noah and Lisa took a walk in the park after dinner, holding hands.
"Honey, look!" Lisa pointed to Golden Summit Peak. "The best villa halfway up the mountain has started renovation!"
From their viewpoint, they could vaguely see people walking around the villa entrance and some equipment being moved inside.
Noah nodded. "Since someone has bought the villa, of course, they’ll renovate it. People usually buy those villas for their loved ones."
"How fortunate!" Lisa's big eyes sparkled, and then she held Noah's arm affectionately. "But I'm also happy just being by your side. I enjoy these simple and peaceful days, and I love going for walks every evening."
"Haha, let's go for a walk at Golden Summit Peak in a while," Noah replied with a smile.
"Honey, it's okay for you to brag to me, but please don't brag in front of my dad, or he’ll criticize you again," Lisa teased Noah and then frowned playfully. "Especially about Golden Summit Peak. You know my dad has always wanted to live in Summit Retreat Oasis."
Noah smiled but remained silent.
Suddenly, Lisa's phone rang, and it was Daniel.
"Hey, Lisa, let's have dinner!"
"Again?" Lisa furrowed her eyebrows. She didn't really want to go.
Whenever Daniel called her out for a meal, it usually meant trouble.
"I'm not the one buying this time, your uncle is. His son passed the civil service exam and got a job at the Health Bureau, so he wants to celebrate with a big family dinner at the Jade Lake Villa." Daniel added, "By the way, the Director of the Health Bureau will be there. He’s quite influential, so we need to show him respect. If possible, Noah shouldn't come. It would be embarrassing."
"No, I won't go if my husband doesn't go," Lisa replied firmly.
"Alright, alright, I'll go along with whatever you say," Daniel sounded a little impatient. "But let me make it clear, if Noah embarrasses himself at the dinner table, you can’t blame me for getting angry!"
Then, Daniel hung up the phone.
"We’re going out for dinner?" Noah asked after hearing his father-in-law's words on the phone.
Lisa nodded. "My cousin got a job as a civil servant, and they're celebrating it. Let's go check it out!"
Half an hour later, Noah and Lisa arrived at the Jade Lake Villa.
Not everyone had arrived yet. Only Daniel, Larry, and Lisa's uncle were at the dining table.
"Oh, my son Mike passing the civil service exam, I really have to thank Larry for that!" Noah's uncle Jake said, his face filled with gratitude.
"That day, I casually mentioned at the hospital that my son was taking the civil service exam and asked Larry for help. I didn't expect that Larry would remember that!"
"Larry has connections, he made it happen through the director. My son successfully become a civil servant at the Health Bureau!"
"Thank you, Larry, here's a toast to you!"
Jake stood up, raising his glass toward Larry.
"Please don't do that, Jake, you're embarrassing me!"
Larry quickly stood up as well, raising his glass.
"I should be toasting to you! After all, you’re my elder! Besides, Mike becoming a civil servant is a family matter, soI naturally wanted to help!"
"Here's a toast to you, Jake!"
Larry drank his glass in one go.
"Good! Great!"
Jake gave Larry a thumbs up.
"Daniel, it's a blessing you found a son-in-law like this! He understands filial piety and manners! Compared to that Noah, who's useless, it's like heaven and earth!"
Daniel felt very proud when he heard that. "We shouldn’t talk about that useless Noah at the dinner table, Jake! Just wait and see, sooner or later, I’ll kick him out of the Wilson family."
"You’d be right to do so. It was a waste for Lisa to marry Noah. I support your decision!" Jake said.
"By the way, I heard that you arranged a blind date for Lisa, and the man is pretty accomplished, he owns five houses in Oceanbridge City!"
As he finished speaking, Noah and Lisa walked in from outside.
Daniel frowned when he saw Noah, "Hmph, don't bring that up. The more you bring it up, the angrier I get. Ivan was assigned to work in the Desert Continent."
"Doesn't that ruin things?" Jake's expression changed.
"Hard to say. Ivan said on the phone that Noah's Capital is testing him. When he returns from working in the Desert Continent, his position in the company will definitely rise, and his income will increase significantly," Daniel said.
Jake nodded, "That's the way, if you go there and come back, you’ll have the qualifications, and the company will promotion you for sure! It won’t be not too late for Lisa to marry him then."
At this time, Noah and Lisa had taken their seats at the table.
"Hmm, but you can’t put all your eggs in one basket. While Ivan is away, you should keep trying to find another blind date, maybe you'll meet someone better. Anyway, Noah is such a loser, there's no way he can stay in the Wilson family!" Daniel glanced at Noah sideways expressionlessly.
Larry looked at Lisa and then shifted his gaze to Noah, with pity in his eyes.
'Noah is being cheated on and doesn’t even know it! Garrett wants to take Lisa, it'll be an easy thing for someone like him, right?'
At this moment, another person walked in.
