Chapter 214 Groundbreaking and Ribbon Cutting
At that moment, Jack's face twisted with a mix of emotions.
Fifty million dollars was a sum he could only dream of making in thirty years or even longer. He undoubtedly couldn't resist such a great temptation.
But this young guy could just throw around fifty million as if he didn't care it at all, which meant he had some serious background behind him.
If taking the money meant putting a target on his back and risking his life, it wasn't worth it.
Jack's eyes darted around before he finally gritted his teeth and stepped forward with a forced smile. "Ugh... sir, you can keep your fifty million. I don't want it."
"You don't want it? Why?" Noah asked, genuinely puzzled.
Ted's goons were just as shocked and started chiming in, "Jack, why wouldn't you take it... Yeah, it's free money! Why not... Exactly, fifty million is no joke, and he offered it willingly... Why not take it?"
"Shut up, all of you!" Jack turned around and glared at them fiercely, "You guys don't get it!"
Then he looked back at Noah. "Sir, give me your account number, and I'll send the money back. I can't accept it."
"Are you sure you don't want it?" Noah asked again.
Jack nodded frantically.
This amount was too risky. Accepting it might bring huge trouble.
Since Jack didn't want it, Noah didn't push.
"Then return the money."
Jack got the account number from Noah and sent the money back.
"Noah Anderson," Jack learned Noah's name during the transaction.
"Mr. Anderson, you received it?" Jack asked cautiously.
Noah nodded.
Jack breathed a sigh of relief.
"Mr. Anderson, since you know the owner of Noah's Barbecue Restaurant, we won't charge protection fees from this place anymore. Let's just forget this matter." Jack said, wanting to distance himself from Noah as much as possible.
"That works for me," Noah nodded.
With that, Jack and his goons left Orchard Breeze Avenue.
"Mr. Anderson, thank you so much," Grace walked over, full of gratitude. "You saved me ten thousand dollars!"
"It was nothing," Noah waved it off. To him, it was a piece of cake.
Normally, any ordinary people wouldn't accept that fifty million dollars.
And after today's incident, Noah figured Grace's barbecue restaurant could operate peacefully on Orchard Breeze Avenue.
If any trouble arose, Jack would likely help out, considering Noah's influence.
Until ten at night, Noah drove home as usual.
With Charlotte helping at the barbecue restaurant, Noah wouldn't need to assist every day. He could check in occasionally.
He still needed to focus on getting another company listed and the logistics partnership with the Winchester Family.
The next day, a phone call woke Noah from his sleep.
"Mr. Anderson, it's Quentin," came the respectful voice.
"What's up?" Noah asked, still groggy.
"The elementary school in the poor district is breaking ground today. I'd like to invite you to the ribbon-cutting ceremony," Quentin said cautiously, sensing Noah was still half-asleep.
"Exact time?" Noah hummed vaguely.
"Ten in the morning," Quentin replied.
"Alright, I'll be there," Noah replied.
After getting ready, Noah drove to the poor district.
He wasn't particularly interested in ribbon-cutting ceremonies but wanted to check on how Grace and Scarlett were doing in the poor district.
At nine-thirty, Noah arrived.
The area was bustling with the noise of machinery. Bulldozers, excavators, and cranes were in full swing. Workers in uniforms and hard hats moved around, and the air was thick with dust.
The redevelopment project was a two to three-year endeavor, so the area wouldn't change much in the short term.
However, all the residents had been relocated to better housing, which was a significant improvement.
"Mr. Anderson! You're finally here!" A middle-aged man with black-rimmed glasses approached with a smile, followed by a dozen men in suits, each exuding a subtle authority.
The middle-aged man was Superintendent Quentin of the school district.
"New glasses?" Noah noted.
"Yeah, I had to replace them after they got broken at the Prosperity Institute," Quentin smiled, "Mr. Anderson, let me introduce you to my colleagues from the education system. These are the future principal and administrators of Maplewood Primary School."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Anderson... Mr. Anderson, your generosity in donating to build Maplewood Primary School is truly touching... Yeah, Mr. Anderson, please accept our gratitude... You are a benefactor to over three hundred children in the poor district... Unlike those celebrities who hold charity galas for publicity, you genuinely do good deeds!" they greeted Noah respectfully.
They expressed their heartfelt thanks, some even bowing to Noah.
There were many wealthy people, but few like Noah who gave back to society.
"With great wealth comes great responsibility," Noah said modestly.
"Alright, Mr. Anderson, the ribbon-cutting is about to start! The children are waiting for us. Let's go!" Quentin said cheerfully.
Noah nodded, leading the group to the future site of Maplewood Primary School.
A stage was set up with a large banner reading "Celebrating the Groundbreaking of Maplewood Primary School."
Below the stage, over three hundred children stood in lines, their eyes wide with curiosity.
"Mr. Anderson, please come up to the stage," Quentin gestured.
Noah walked up, followed by the others, taking the central position.
Under the stage, countless pairs of eyes were glistening with hope, curiosity and so on.
"Noah!" A sweet voice called out from the crowd. It was Scarlett, her eyes shining with excitement.
"Scarlett, you know him?" a dark-skinned boy beside her asked.
"Of course! Noah even came to my house for dinner!" Scarlett said proudly.
