Chapter 344 Rooster
Noah pulled up a chair and sat down in front of Parker. "Alright, can we talk for real now?"
"Sure," Parker replied, glancing at Noah nervously. It was clear this young guy was in charge; the four men in sunglasses followed his orders.
"So, your guys said you're backed by the Murphy family. Does that mean you can actually get in touch with them?" Noah asked.
"Honestly, I'm not sure if that guy is really from the Murphy family. He said he was and told me to call him Rooster," Parker hesitated before continuing. "When I met Rooster, he gave me a hundred grand to rent this place across from Silverlight City High School and open this pool hall. He told me to recruit students from the school, especially those from wealthy families."
"Wealthy families, huh?" Noah's eyes narrowed. Recruiting followers to build power was normal, but targeting rich kids specifically was a bit strange.
"Can you confirm Rooster is really from the Murphy family?" Noah asked again.
"Rooster said he was, but how would I know if it's true?" Parker replied, looking defeated. "His guys are real gangsters. I wouldn't dare question him. He gives me money, and I do what he asks. It's that simple."
Noah nodded. "East, go grab twenty grand from the car."
"On it!" East left the pool hall and came back with a briefcase. He unzipped it, revealing stacks of cash that made Parker and the others' eyes widen. They'd never seen so much money before.
"Here's twenty thousand dollars. I need you to find a way to contact Rooster and set up a meeting. Once you have the time and place, let me know. If you pull it off, there'll be more rewards," Noah said to Parker.
"Okay, okay!" Parker's eyes lit up as he nodded eagerly. "Don't worry, I'll get it done!"
Twenty grand was a lot, especially for a young guy just starting out. And what Noah asked wasn't too hard.
"Let him go," Noah said calmly. South and West released Parker. Honestly, Noah didn't have high hopes that Rooster was really from the Murphy family. They were powerful and didn't need to recruit a high school dropout. But it was worth a shot.
Silverline Square, fourth floor.
Audrey checked the time; it was already afternoon. She sneaked downstairs to the roadside.
'Let's see what the owner of that GMC looks like! He must be a handsome guy!' Audrey's face was flushed with excitement as she thought to herself. She had come down secretly to catch a glimpse of the owner of the GMC. If he was handsome, she planned to approach him before her female colleagues could.
'You bunch of flashy women, none of you are as pretty as me, Audrey. You don't deserve the GMC owner!' Audrey adjusted her glasses, her face even redder. But when she looked at the roadside, she was stunned—The GMC she had seen in the morning was already gone.
'No way, it's not even quitting time yet, and the GMC owner has already left?!' Disappointment washed over Audrey's face. 'But good things come to those who wait. Tomorrow, I'll be here again, and I'll definitely see him!'
Silverlight City High School. Noah and Genevieve walked out of Starlight Billiards Hall. Since Parker had agreed to help Noah contact Rooster, Noah just had to wait for the news.
"Genevieve, when Parker was bothering you at school, didn't you tell the teachers?" Noah asked as they walked.
"I did, but the teachers didn't care." Genevieve shook her head. "My grades are just average. The teachers focus on the top students and don't pay much attention to the rest of us. If they had stepped in, Parker wouldn't have gotten worse."
Noah nodded. "What about your family? Didn't you tell them? They should care about this."
"I grew up in a single-parent family." Genevieve's big eyes dimmed, and her voice lowered. "My dad passed away shortly after I was born. My mom raised me alone and is always busy with work. She doesn't have time to worry about me."
Noah sighed. Genevieve's background was indeed tough. So young, just a senior in high school, and already facing so much. No wonder she was always so quiet in class; Noah had thought it was just teenage rebellion.
"Mr. Anderson, you seem pretty young too. Can I call just you Noah?" Genevieve asked with a playful smile.
"Whatever you like." Noah didn't mind what she called him.
"Thank you so much for today, Noah. If it weren't for you, I would have been taken to Starlight Billiards Hall by Ivan and his gang. By the time my mom found out, who knows what would have happened to me," Genevieve said gratefully.
She knew Parker's type well. A small-time thug like him would do anything to show off in front of his followers, and the consequences would have been unimaginable.
"Where do you live? I'll have them take you home," Noah offered.
"Are we parting ways already?" Genevieve looked disappointed. She bit her lip, gathered her courage, and suddenly grabbed Noah's hand. "Noah, why don't you come to my house for dinner? I want to thank you properly, and my mom would be very grateful too. Plus, I still have some questions about the guitar techniques you taught me today. Can you teach me again at home?"
Her warm, soft hand and innocent eyes would touch any man's heart.
'It seems she has a bit of a crush on me,' Noah thought, scratching his nose. "Alright, I'll come to your house for dinner." He nodded.
Noah wasn't going to Genevieve's house because he had feelings for her. He wanted to meet her mother and discuss Genevieve's education. If left unchecked, Genevieve's future could go astray.
Genevieve's eyes lit up upon hearing Noah's response, and she gave a bright smile.
After telling East and the others to return to the hotel, Noah drove Genevieve to her home. After about half an hour, they arrived at Blossom Community, where Genevieve lived.
