Chapter 269 Changing Cars
"Ten bucks!"
Larry was so mad he almost slapped Jasmine.
If it weren't for his pride, he would've done it already.
"Jasmine, that vase isn't just any old thing. It's an antique Larry bought for two hundred grand."
Sarah's face turned a bit cold.
She wasn't thrilled about George and his daughter crashing at their place either.
But they had already said at dinner they could stay, so they had to follow through.
"What? Two hundred grand!"
Jasmine's eyes widened as she pointed at the floor. "This broken vase is worth two hundred grand? Sarah, you gotta be kidding me!"
"Why would I lie to you?" Sarah said, exasperated.
Jasmine and George had only been in the house for less than a day and had already broken an antique vase, which made Sarah feel a bit distressed.
They couldn't just kick them out, right?
If they did, and the relatives found out, their family would be the laughingstock.
"What's going on?"
Hearing the commotion, Daniel and George came downstairs.
"Dad, here's what happened."
Sarah quickly explained the situation.
"A two hundred thousand dollar antique vase!"
Hearing the price, George stomped his foot anxiously. "Two hundred grand is a lot of money! How am I supposed to pay that back? I only have a little over a thousand bucks to my name!"
"And you, Jasmine, can't you be more careful? What are we supposed to do now?"
George couldn't afford to pay two hundred grand.
"George, why are you so worried?"
Daniel waved his hand dismissively. "It's just two hundred grand. Larry's got money; he won't miss it. The vase is broken, so it's broken. You don't have to pay for it."
"Dad!"
"Dad!"
Larry and Sarah's faces changed. They couldn't believe Daniel had said that.
Two hundred grand, just like that?!
Even though their family had money, they couldn't just waste it like this!
"What, do you want George to pay two hundred grand?"
Daniel frowned, looking at the two of them. "We're all family, relatives. If word got out that we made them pay, our family would be a joke. We'd lose all our pride!"
Larry opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't dare to argue with Daniel.
For the first time, he realized his father-in-law would do anything to save face.
Two hundred grand, just like that?!
Larry had worked hard to earn that money!
"Dad, that's two hundred grand. It's not a small amount."
Sarah's face changed.
"Enough, don't say another word!"
Daniel raised his hand, cutting her off. "In this house, I'm the head of the family. Everything goes by my word! That two hundred grand is gone! Do you hear me?"
Larry and Sarah exchanged glances and finally nodded reluctantly.
"Uncle George, since my dad said so, the vase is broken, and that's that."
Larry forced a smile, though his heart ached. For the sake of pride, he had to say it.
But he felt a bit of resentment towards Daniel.
"Larry, you're amazing!"
George gave Larry a thumbs up, grinning from ear to ear.
"Damn it!"
Larry's heart bled. That was a two hundred thousand dollar antique vase!
Sarah's face didn't look good either. She was growing more and more dissatisfied with George and Jasmine.
She suddenly felt that Noah had a point when he beat up George and his daughter and kicked them out that night.
Now, she wanted to kick them out too, but with Daniel around, it was impossible.
"By the way, Larry, I need to talk to you about something," Daniel said, his eyes twinkling.
"What is it, Dad? Just say it," Larry replied.
"You just bought a BMW 7 Series, right? It's a fantastic car!" Daniel said with a smile.
"Yeah, it is. It cost over a hundred grand. The handling, comfort, and looks are a huge upgrade from my old 3 Series," Larry said proudly.
Driving that car to business meetings gave Larry a lot of pride.
"Really!"
Daniel's eyes lit up. After a moment of silence, he said, "How about this: I'll trade you my Mercedes E350L for your BMW. What do you think? I've always dreamed of driving a BMW since I was young!"
"Now that you have a BMW 7 Series, let's trade so I can fulfill my dream. Can we do that?"
Larry and Sarah were both stunned.
"Dad, that's not really appropriate," Larry said, looking troubled. "My 7 Series cost over a hundred grand, and your E350L is only worth about sixty. It's a big difference in price, and they're not in the same class. How can we trade? Besides, I just bought the car and haven't driven it enough yet!"
"Yeah, Dad," Sarah added. "Larry driving the 7 Series to business meetings gives him a lot of pride. Many developers know about it. If he suddenly switches to a lower-class Mercedes E, what will they think?"
"What do I care what those developers think?" Daniel glared. "I just want to fulfill my dream of driving a BMW. What's wrong with that? Sarah, I'm your father. I raised you. Was it easy for me? Larry, you're my son-in-law. Isn't it your duty to be filial to your father-in-law?"
"You bought a BMW, and I want to trade cars with you. Is that too much to ask? Now is the time for you to show your filial piety! Do you not have even this bit of filial piety?"
"Yes, yes!" Larry quickly said. He didn't dare to be labeled unfilial. If word got out, he would become a laughingstock like Noah.
"Dad, wait a moment. I'll get the car keys for you!"
Larry quickly went upstairs, though his heart was still bleeding.
Trading a BMW 7 Series for a Mercedes E was a loss no matter how you looked at it.
Soon, Daniel had the keys to the 7 Series. He played with them in his hand, nodding in satisfaction.
"These keys are pretty high-tech, even with a display."
Meanwhile, at Noah's villa.
Noah exited the streaming app and put down his phone.
He had just randomly checked Facebook Live and found Jasmine.
Noah was sure that Jasmine, with her looks and figure, wasn't cut out for streaming, unless she covered her face like Hailey.
So, Noah subscribed to her channel to see how long Jasmine could last as a streamer.
At Oceanbridge City Hospital, in a hospital bed.
A handsome young man with dyed blond hair opened his eyes. It was Gideon.
"Gideon, you're finally awake!"
A middle-aged woman in a dress, wearing a diamond necklace that reflected light, sat by the bed.
"Mom, why am I in the hospital?"
Gideon looked around, slightly confused, and then asked curiously.
"You were knocked out by a guy named Noah at Royal Garden, so you're in the hospital," the middle-aged woman said, her face slightly cold.
