Chapter 269: Car Swap
"A few bucks!"
Larry was so angry he wanted to slap Jasmine.
If not for his pride, he would have done it already.
"Jasmine, that's not an ordinary vase. It's a blue and white porcelain antique that Larry bought for two hundred thousand."
Sarah's face was slightly cold.
She was also displeased with George and Jasmine staying in their home.
But since they had already said they could stay at the dining table, they had to follow through.
"What, two hundred thousand!"
Jasmine's eyes widened, pointing at the floor. "This broken vase is worth two hundred thousand? Sarah, you must be joking!"
"Why would I lie to you?" Sarah said helplessly.
Having these two stay in their home for less than a day and already breaking an antique, Sarah felt like she had swallowed a bitter pill.
They couldn't just kick them out!
If they did, and the news reached their relatives, their family would be laughed at.
"What's going on?"
Hearing the commotion, Daniel and George also came downstairs.
"Dad, here's what happened."
Sarah briefly explained the situation.
"A two hundred thousand blue and white porcelain!"
Hearing the price, George stomped his foot in anxiety. "Two hundred thousand, that's a lot. Where am I supposed to get that kind of money? I only have a little over a thousand on me!"
"And you, Jasmine, can't you be more careful? What are we going to do now?"
George couldn't afford to pay two hundred thousand.
"Oh, come on, George, don't worry."
Daniel waved his hand dismissively. "It's just two hundred thousand. Larry has money; he doesn't care about that. The blue and white porcelain is broken, so be it. You don't need to pay."
"Dad!"
"Dad!"
Hearing this, both Larry and Sarah's faces changed. They didn't expect Daniel to say that.
Two hundred thousand, just like that?!
Even if they had money, they couldn't waste it like this!
"What, you still want George to pay two hundred thousand?"
Daniel frowned, looking at them. "We're all family, relatives. If this gets out, our family would be a laughingstock. We'd lose all our face!"
Larry opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't dare contradict Daniel.
He realized for the first time that his father-in-law would do anything to save face.
Two hundred thousand, just like that?!
This money was hard-earned by Larry!
"Dad, that's two hundred thousand, not a small amount..."
Sarah's face changed.
"Enough, don't say another word!"
Daniel raised his hand, cutting her off. "In this house, I'm the head. Everything goes by my word! That two hundred thousand is gone! Do you understand?"
Larry and Sarah exchanged glances, finally nodding reluctantly.
"George, since my dad said so, the blue and white porcelain is gone."
Larry forced a smile, though he felt the pain inside. For the sake of face, he said it.
But he felt a bit of resentment towards his father-in-law.
"Larry, generous! Very generous!"
George gave Larry a thumbs up, beaming.
"Generous, my foot!"
Larry was bleeding inside. That was a two hundred thousand blue and white porcelain!
Sarah's face was also unpleasant, growing more displeased with George and Jasmine.
She suddenly felt that Noah had a reason for beating George and Jasmine and kicking them out that night.
She now wanted to kick them out too, but with Daniel around, it was impossible.
"Larry, I have something to discuss with you."
Daniel's eyes twinkled as he spoke.
"What is it, Dad? Just say it." Larry replied.
"Didn't you just buy a BMW 7 Series? I think your car is pretty good!" Daniel smiled.
"It is. After all, it cost over a million! The handling, comfort, and appearance are much better than my old 3 Series." Larry said proudly.
Driving that car to business meetings made Larry feel very proud.
"Is that so!"
Daniel's eyes lit up. After a moment of silence, he said:
"How about this, I'll trade my Mercedes E350L for your BMW. How does that sound? It's been my dream to drive a BMW since I was young!"
"Now that you have a BMW 7 Series, let's swap cars so I can fulfill my long-held dream, okay?"
"Uh..."
Larry and Sarah were both stunned.
"Dad, that's not really appropriate."
Larry looked troubled. "My 7 Series cost over a million, and your E350L is only worth about sixty thousand. The price difference is huge, and they're not in the same class. How can we swap? Besides, I just bought the car and haven't even gotten used to it yet!"
"Yes, Dad." Sarah added:
"Larry driving the 7 Series to business meetings gives him a lot of face. Many developers know about it. Suddenly switching to a lower-class Mercedes E, what would they think?"
"What do I care what those developers think?"
Daniel glared. "I want to fulfill my dream of driving a BMW. What's wrong with that? Sarah, I'm your father. I raised you. Was it easy for me? Larry, you're my son-in-law. Isn't it your duty to be filial to your father-in-law?"
"You bought a BMW, and I want to swap cars with you. Is that not okay? Now is the time for you to show your filial piety! Do you not have even this bit of filial piety?"
"Yes, yes!"
Larry immediately agreed. He didn't want to be labeled unfilial. If that got out, he'd be looked down on by all his relatives, just like that useless Noah.
"Dad, wait a moment. I'll get the car keys for you!"
Larry quickly went upstairs, but his heart was still bleeding.
Swapping a BMW 7 Series for a Mercedes E was a huge loss no matter how you looked at it.
Soon, Daniel had the keys to the 7 Series. He played with them in his hand, nodding in satisfaction.
"Tsk tsk, these keys are quite fancy, even with a display."
...
Meanwhile, at Noah's villa.
Noah exited the live streaming app and put down his phone.
He had just stumbled upon Jasmine's stream while browsing nearby streams on Shark Live.
Based on Jasmine's appearance and figure, Noah was certain she wasn't cut out for streaming unless she did something like Hailey, covering her face.
So, Noah subscribed to her channel to see how long Jasmine could last as a streamer.
...
At Oceanbridge City Royal Hospital, in a hospital bed.
A young man with dyed blonde hair and a handsome face opened his eyes. It was Gideon.
"Gideon, you're finally awake!"
Beside the bed sat a middle-aged lady in a long dress, her neck adorned with a diamond necklace that reflected light.
"Mom, why am I in the hospital?"
Gideon looked around, confused, and asked curiously.
"You were knocked out by a guy named Noah at Royal Garden, so you're in the hospital."
The middle-aged lady spoke, her face slightly cold.
