Chapter 49 Noah's Little Brother

Daniel glared at Noah in anger when he saw that Lisa wasn’t saying anything.

"Noah, it's bad enough that you laze around at home every day, but why did you teach Lisa the habit of bragging?"

Noah looked stunned. When did he ever brag?

"I'm being serious, Dad. I really am the person in charge," Lisa said earnestly.

"Alright, alright, stop talking. It’s good that you're married now. If you had bragged like this before, I would have already hit you." Daniel waved his hand impatiently.

Sarah burst into giggles at the dinner table. When Lisa was young, she had often been beaten by Daniel.

Larry shook his head, surprised that Lisa still liked to brag.

A small accountant like Lisa couldn’t possibly be the head of the project to renovate the slums.

Daniel's attitude made Lisa not want to say anything further, so she quietly ate her meal.

After finishing the meal, Noah and Lisa went home. On their way home, Lisa was feeling unhappy.

"It might be true that I lack the ability and cannot fulfill the role as the person in charge, Noah Capital specifically put me in charge." Lisa pouted in dissatisfaction.

"I was just telling the truth. Why do Dad, Sarah, and Larry have that attitude?"

"If they don't believe you, then let them be. Noah Capital will publicly announce the information of the personnel involved in the slum renovation project tomorrow. They’ll believe you then," Noah smiled faintly.

"Huh? How do you know it will be announced tomorrow, honey? Did I tell you that?" Lisa looked at Noah with large eyes filled with doubt.

"Well... I guessed. There’s usually an announcement for a project like this, right?" Noah's gaze flickered.

"You're right, dear. You're really smart," Lisa smiled. "When the government website announces the project information tomorrow, we’ll see if they’ll still say I'm bragging!"

...

Early the next morning, Lisa went to work while Noah had breakfast.

The doorbell rang.

Noah took his bowl with him to open the door, finding Ethan standing outside with a shaved head and wearing a t-shirt.

"Noah!"

When Ethan saw Noah, he immediately smiled and raised the black bag in his hand.

"My grandmother is grateful for how you helped us at the hospital. Our family doesn't have much money, so my grandmother told me to bring over some potatoes, vegetables, and cauliflower that we grew at home to give to you.

"These vegetables are definitely better than the ones in the supermarket. They’re all organic, grown by my grandmother herself! Also, here are some eggs, all from free-range chickens. They taste really good!"

Noah smiled and said, "Thank your grandmother for me. Come in and have a seat!"

After entering the house, Ethan sat on the couch, feeling a bit uneasy. Noah poured him a glass of water and continued eating his breakfast.

"What are your plans for the future?" Noah asked.

Ethan thought for a moment and said, "First, I want to quit gambling. You gave us one million dollars, Noah. My original idea was to buy a small house with my grandma and move out of the poor neighborhood to a better environment.

"But yesterday's news said that the poor neighborhood is going to be demolished and rebuilt. The residents will be provided with resettlement housing and compensation." A glimmer of light suddenly flashed in Ethan’s eyes.

"I grew up in the poor neighborhood so I know all the residents here. With this redevelopment, some people will definitely who try to take advantage of the situation and demand high compensation for relocation. It might even resulting in bloodshed."

"My idea is to use the one million dollars as startup capital and see if I can help the government solve the issue of resettlement. And maybe make some profit from it.

"Liam is still in the ICU after he was injured. His status in the poor neighborhood has plummeted. Otherwise, I wouldn't have the opportunity to do something like this."

Noah looked at Ethan in surprise as he realized that this young man actually had some brains.

"So how are you going to work with the government?" Noah asked.

"That's my biggest problem right now," Ethan sighed. "While I’m confident in my ability to solve the issue of resettlement, I have no connections with the government and Noah Capital has been entrusted with the project for the redevelopment of the poor neighborhood. It’s become even more difficult for me to reach anyone.

"It's frustrating to have an opportunity right in front of you but not be able to seize it."

Noah fell silent when he heard that. He continued eating while his eyes showed a thoughtful expression, as if he was considering something.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A loud noise came from outside.

The door of Noah's house shook.

"Damn it, open the door!"

"Open the door quickly! If you don't, I'll break it down!"

"Are you dead in there? If not, hurry up and open the door!"

Outside the door, people could be heard cursing and complaining.

Noah frowned and put his bowl down to open the door.

Seven or eight tall thugs stood outside, each with tattoos and a menacing appearance.

Among them was a man sitting in a wheelchair, his leg wrapped in gauze. Noah had broken this man’s leg two days ago while walking in the neighborhood.

Next to the man stood his wife.

Her eyes were red. She was dressed in mourning clothes and holding a picture frame and an urn in her arms. The picture frame displayed a photo of their German Shepherd.

"Young man, the neighborhood has surveillance cameras now. Do you think it was hard to find your house?" the man in the wheelchair said coldly, looking at Noah.

"You should remember what I told you two days ago. I’ll make you regret it."

"Megan, this is the guy who killed Lucy and injured you, right?" One of the thugs next to the man pointed at Noah with an iron rod.

Megan nodded and a sinister gleam appeared in his eyes. "I've already spent thousands of dollars on hospital bills. Today, I'm going to break both his legs!'"

"Honey, we can't break his legs! How can he kneel if his legs are broken?" Megan's wife spoke up.

Her eyes were red and filled with hatred as she stared at Noah.

"I already sent Lucy's ashes to the funeral home yesterday and picked out a good spot for his grave. This is his urn and photo."

The woman caressed the urn and raised her head to Noah, her voice dripping with iciness.

"You better put on some mourning clothes and kneel to my Lucy, boy! Otherwise, I'll make you wish you were dead!"

After saying that, she pulled out a black mourning robe from her pocket and threw them down in front of Noah.

Noah's eyebrows furrowed. He wondered if this was supposed to bring him bad luck.

"What's going on, Noah? "

Ethan, who had heard the commotion, came out. When he saw the people and the frame and urn of the German Shepherd, he understood what was happening.

"Heh, it's just a dog. You even picked out a nice grave for him. Is this dog your father?" Ethan mocked the woman.

"Who are you?"

The woman looked coldly at Ethan.

"Me? I'm Noah's friend." Ethan grinned.

"Hmph, since you're his friend, then you should both wear mourning clothes!" The woman sneered and threw another mourning robe at Ethan.

"I’ll give you one minute. Put them on and kneel to my Lucy!

"Otherwise, both of you will wish you were dead!"
