Chapter 37 I Like You

After listening to Noah’s story, Lisa shook her head helplessly.

"Dad is really something. It's obvious that he hit someone while driving and tried to run. He has no sense of law at all!"

"Honey, we have you to thank for stopping my dad. Otherwise, something bad would have happened," Lisa said.

"I just did what I needed to do," Noah smiled.

The next day, Lisa went to work, and Noah was jobless again. He planned to take a nap and then buy some fruit to take to Heather.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

When Noah opened the door, he was slightly taken aback.

Mia was standing at the door.

She was wearing a long dress and her face was lightly made up, but her eyes were red.

"Why are you here?" Noah furrowed his brows. He didn’t think much of Mia, and he wasn't surprising that she had found his address since he had provided it in his employment information.

"I cried all night yesterday, Noah," Mia said, looking at Noah and the owner of the Rolls-Royce, her heart filled with sadness and discomfort.

"It's none of my business," Noah said in a flat voice.

"Why are you so cold, Noah? Can't you just console me? I liked you so much!" Mia's voice was filled with sorrow.

"You liked the owner of the Rolls-Royce, not me," Noah said expressionlessly.

"No, I like you!" Mia shook her head, firmly saying, "I thought about it last night and finally understood why I was sad. The owner of the Rolls-Royce that I liked and loved turned out to be my coworker, who I mocked every day. I couldn't accept that contrast at that time."

Mia took a deep breath. "But now I've figured it out. Since you’re the owner of the Rolls-Royce, I will accept everything about you, not just that you have a Rolls-Royce and can play the guitar, but also the way you are in your everyday work, that... poor guy look."

Noah shook his head helplessly. Mia didn't seem to know how to communicate properly.

"I only slept for two hours last night and dreamt about you again."

Mia continued, "I woke up at five in the morning thinking that I needed to see you. I kept encouraging myself and finally mustered the courage to come here."

"After saying all that, I just want to tell you that I like you, Noah!"

Mia's voice rose at the end of her sentence, as if she were confessing her feelings.

"Will you accept me?"

Mia looked at Noah with her red eyes.

"I’m married. You must have seen that in my employment information. I have a family. I love my wife, so I cannot accept you."

"But Michael told me that you’re not worthy of your wife at all." Mia hesitated for a moment. "He also said that divorce is inevitable for you two. I thought, maybe when you get divorced, or if I become the third party..."

Before Mia could finish speaking, Noah slammed the door shut.

If Mia weren't a woman, Noah would have gotten physical with her for what she said.

"I’ll still accept you, even if you get divorced, Noah!" Mia's voice came from outside, full of sincerity.

Noah couldn't be bothered to pay any attention to her and went back to his room to continue sleeping.

He slept until noon and then had a simple lunch. When he opened the door, he realized Mia had left.

He went out to buy some fruit and went to see Heather at the hospital. Since it was almost time for Lisa to leave work, he went back home.

When Noah reached the neighborhood, he noticed that there were two cars parked downstairs.

One was the Mercedes-Benz E350L, the car Lisa used for work.

Beside it was a convertible Lamborghini, which Noah recognized as Joshua's car.

"Oh, Noah is back! I just came down from your place. I had a tour of your house and now we're about to go out for dinner!" Joshua popped his head out and looked at Noah.

Evelyn was wearing a white mini skirt, revealing her fair and long legs. She had a satisfied smile on her face as she nested in Joshua's arms.

"You two are progressing quite fast," Noah said casually.

"Hmph, we’re deeply in love. Now that we’ve confirmed their relationship, things have naturally progressed quickly," Evelyn said, casting a sidelong glance at Noah.

After Joshua had helped her solve her company issues, Evelyn had agreed to pursue a relationship with him and become his girlfriend. They were only one step away from being officially together.

"Noah, I just saw your place, and it's terrible!" Joshua said with some contempt. "Your place is on the fourth floor, and climbing those stairs nearly killed me. The walls next to the stairs are covered in advertisements, and there are trash bags on your doorstep. It's dirty and messy. I really don't understand how you can live in an environment like that! Do humans even live here?"

"Not everyone has a household staff and a mansion like your family, Joshua!" Evelyn said sarcastically. "Everyone has their own fate. Some people live in a dirty and messy environment and yet are still not motivated to improve themselves. They just show off when they have a bit of money!"

If Lisa were here, Evelyn wouldn't have spoken like this. But with Lisa upstairs, Evelyn vented her usual disdain for Noah.

"Noah, you say you have money to buy jewelry, cars, and clothes, but can't you at least save up for a down payment to buy a house for Lisa and give her a better living environment?" Evelyn continued. "You’re so irresponsible. You don't even possess a fraction of Joshua's qualities! Lisa must have been blind to marry you!"

Evelyn affectionately caressed Joshua's chest with her palm while saying that.

"Yes! Lisa is so beautiful. I really don't understand why she married such a useless person like you." Joshua shook his head and smiled. "Of course, my Evelyn is the most beautiful woman in the world!"

After speaking the two of them passionately kissed inside the car in front of Noah.

They continued kissing for a full three minutes before finally separating. Evelyn glanced at Noah and said, "Noah, do you know what it means to cherish a woman? Joshua knows how to cherish a woman. He bought me a car, a house, and helped me with work difficulties. That's why I like him!"

"I'm telling you all this do you can learn from Joshua what it means to cherish a woman, so that Lisa won’t suffer with you," Evelyn said.

"Cherishing a woman? I think it's more like deceiving a woman." Noah shook his head, too lazy to argue.

"Alright, Evelyn, let's not waste time with this useless man. Let's go for dinner! They serve all sorts of delicacies. I don’t think Noah has ever tasted them in his whole life." Joshua started the car.

"Okay!" Evelyn nodded.

They drove off as the Lamborghini roared, leaving Noah behind with exhaust fumes in his face.

Noah waved away the exhaust fumes before heading upstairs.

"After they left, Noah asked, "Why were Evelyn and Joshua here?'"

"Sigh!" Lisa was cooking dinner and shook her head helplessly, saying, "Evelyn has agreed to Joshua's pursuit. They are now in the honeymoon phase and can't help but show their affection everywhere they go. He insisted on coming to our house after work. They just left. Why, did you run into them downstairs?"
