Chapter 95 Going to the Wedding
After reaching an agreement, the three of them went downstairs.
"How's work been lately, Lisa?" Zoe asked casually.
"It's been okay," Lisa replied, not wanting to say more.
"I heard you became the head of the urban redevelopment project in the impoverished district." Zoe praised, "That's a great job. It’s a project worth billions, if you complete it well, you can easily make millions! You're way better than your useless husband. You can get a new house, you shouldn’t live in this run-down apartment anymore."
"My husband has already bought a house Mom."
"What kind of crappy house can he buy? It's still in a run-down apartment building, isn't it? It might even be a dangerous house or a house that involves some sort of takeover!" Zoe sneered, and then said, "By the way, since you're in contact with people from the engineering field as the head of the project, most of them are construction workers, right? Larry is in construction, and I'm quite satisfied with him as a son-in-law. You should spend more time on construction sites and maybe find a man like Larry. A construction worker would be an ideal husband!"
"Mom, the companies that can take on projects for the urban redevelopment company are all big developers. Their bosses are all in their forties or fifties. Take Max, who took over a third of the project today for example, he's in his fifties with a beer belly, he’s very greasy!"
Lisa furrowed her brows and said, "Also, I won’t get a divorce. Please stop talking about it."
"Max?"
Zoe's eyes flashed, "Wait a minute, wasn’t Garrett the real estate tycoon who took over one-third of the project? How is Max involved?"
Zoe seemed to have some understanding of the real estate industry.
"Garrett was seriously injured and hospitalized, so he couldn’t work on the project anymore." Lisa glanced at Noah, knowing that Noah had caused Garrett's injuries.
She continued, "As for Max, I can't figure it out either. There seems to be someone behind him with a significant background, just like what happened with Garrett before. The company handed over one-third of the project to him!"
"I'm really curious about the people behind Max. How did he earn the trust of the top management at Noah Capital?"
"Since Max is taking over one-third of the project, doesn't that mean he’ll become as important as Garrett in the future?" Zoe smacked her lips.
"Max is soaring to new heights! I wonder if he's married or not. If not, maybe I can consider him," she said jokingly.
"Mom, can you please not say that?!" Lisa's face turned icy.
"Alright, let's not talk about it, okay? You're unhappy when I mention it, and that loser Noah is unhappy too. But no matter what, Noah will be kicked out sooner or later," Zoe said emotionlessly.
Before long, they arrived downstairs.
A black Volkswagen Passat was parked there.
"I know you don't have a car, so I drove here to take you guys there," Zoe pressed the key button, and the Passat's lights flashed.
"I just washed this car. Be careful not to dirty it, Noah. It's worth more than 300,000 dollars. You’ve probably never been in a car like this before! I’ll show you what it’s like today." Zoe looked at Noah with disdain.
"Look at Larry, he's driving a BMW. What about you guys?! You don't even have a car! You really are a loser, Noah. There's a huge gap between you and Larry!"
Zoe’s eyes lit up when she suddenly noticed a Mercedes parked not far from the Passat.
"Tsk tsk tsk, it seems like even in this run-down neighborhood, there are rich people who can afford a Mercedes! They probably live in the same building as you guys," Zoe said.
"Lisa, don't you feel bad seeing someone else driving in and out with a Benz while you don't have a car? That loser Noah hasn't even bought a car since you got married!"
"Why would I feel bad, Mom? And who told you we don't have a car?" Lisa took out her car keys and pressed the button, causing the Mercedes E350L's lights to flash.
"What?" Zoe looked at the Mercedes, dumbfounded and speechless.
"Lisa, is that your car?" Zoe asked in disbelief.
"Yes," Lisa nodded.
"Not bad!" Zoe praised, "I didn't expect you to be treated so well. The company even provided you a car, and it's a luxury Mercedes!"
"It's not from the company, my husband bought it for me," Lisa responded.
"Did Noah really buy this car?" Zoe asked, glancing at Noah and covering her stomach as she laughed.
"Don't tease me, Lisa. Noah, that loser, can't afford a Mercedes, I bet he couldn't even afford a car tire! Give me the keys, let's not take the Passat, let's take the Mercedes, our relatives will be impressed!"
Zoe snatched the car keys and got into the car.
Lisa shook her head helplessly and got in with Noah.
Zoe drove out of Elegant Haven.
"Lisa, when Luna comes back, lend me your car and I'll go pick her up," Zoe said while driving.
"When is my sister coming back?" Lisa asked. She didn't have much of a connection with her sister Luna because they hadn't grown up together.
Daniel and Zoe had three daughters together.
The eldest was Sarah, the second was Lisa, and the youngest was Luna.
After Daniel and Zoe divorced, Luna lived with Zoe and later went abroad to study.
"She’ll be back in about half a month from now," Zoe said.
"Let's see when the time comes. If I have time, I'll lend you the car, if not, then forget it," Lisa said.
Zoe nodded.
After half an hour, the car arrived at a restaurant.
The parking lot outside the restaurant was full of cars such as BMWs, Audis, and leading them all was a Maserati with flowers and fabric on it, looking festive.
It was the wedding procession car.
As soon as they arrived, Noah smelled the sulfur smell from the firecrackers. The entrance of the restaurant was covered in red, leftover from the firecracker explosions.
Zoe found a parking spot and got out of the car.
"Who else could be driving a Mercedes? It's Zoe!" They heard a voice, and a man in a Zhongshan suit walked over.
The man was in his fifties or sixties, with a dark complexion and a happy expression on his face, holding a cigar in his hand.
It was Lisa's second uncle, Lance.
He had grown up in the same village as Zoe, but they weren't related by blood.
"I don't know much about cars, but that car looks so good, it must be expensive!" Lance admired the Mercedes as he looked up and down. "Zoe, you've made it!"
"It's alright, it's just a couple hundred thousand. I haven't driven it much since I bought it, it consumes too much fuel. It costs quite a bit to maintain it every month" Zoe waved her hand, acting as if the car was hers.
"Oh well, those fuel costs are nothing for you!" Lance laughed and his eyes shifted to Lisa, lighting up.
"Lisa, it's been a few years since we last met, and you've grown so big. You're getting more and more beautiful!"
"Uncle!" Lisa exclaimed.
Lance nodded. "Ever since she was little, I saw how well-behaved and sensible she was. I always wanted my son to marry her so she could be my daughter-in-law, but I wasn’t lucky enough for that to happen!"
"I couldn't be happier if Lisa married your son!" Zoe said.
"Who is this?" Lance looked at Noah.
"Uncle, this is my husband," Lisa said.
"You must be a talented person yo be able to marry Lisa. Not bad at all!"
