Chapter 53:Stepping Down with Grace
"What do you mean by that?" Lisa frowned.
"I don't mean anything. I just like watching TV dramas and often see office subordinates who have a close relationship with their superiors taking advantage of it to advance. Of course, I’m not talking about you, Lisa! I’m just wondering!" Sarah rolled her eyes.
"You need evidence when you make accusations, Sarah. You can't just randomly slander anyone." Noah furrowed his brows. If Sarah wasn't the eldest sister and their father-in-law wasn't present, Noah would have already taken action against her words.
"Evidence? Where will I find evidence for you? Besides, when I'm talking to my sister, it's a Wilson family matter. What right do you have to speak as a son-in-law?" Sarah looked at Noah disdainfully.
"Alright, let's stop arguing. There's no need for a family to fight like this!" Daniel slapped the table with an angry expression, then looked at Noah.
"Noah, we're discussing work here, and you shouldn't interrupt us at the dinner table. Eat your food!"
"Lisa, I have a suggestion regarding your job," Daniel said again.
"Go ahead, Dad," Lisa said, still a little angry with Sarah.
"You just admitted that you can't handle the position of the CEO. Your abilities and experience are virtually nonexistent," Daniel said.
"I think you should hand over the CEO position to Larry. How about that?"
Both Sarah and Larry looked at Lisa simultaneously.
"Hand it over to Larry?" Lisa widened her eyes and immediately said,
"That's absolutely impossible, Dad! Even if I agree, the higher-ups at Noah Capital will never approve!"
"Don't say no right away, listen to me," Daniel said.
"Let me tell you the advantages of this. If you hand over the CEO position to Larry, the first advantage is that Larry has a lot of experience in engineering projects and a wide network of contacts. I believe he can complete the renovation work in the impoverished areas perfectly, which would also satisfy the higher-ups at Noah Capital.
"If you take over, who knows what kind of mess you might get into? You don't even know how to handle anything."
"Dad is right." Larry nodded. "For a project like the renovation of an impoverished area, I can definitely do a better job than you because that’s how I made my fortune."
Lisa remained silent.
Daniel continued, "The second advantage is that this will benefit our whole family. If Larry completes this project successfully, he’ll make a lot of money from it. Larry will definitely become a super-rich tycoon then."
"When Larry becomes a super-rich tycoon, he won’t forget about his sister. It’ll be a piece of cake for him to buy you a house and find a decent job for that useless Noah!"
"Dad is right, Lisa," Larry quickly said. "If you hand over the CEO position to me, I won't forget about you in the future. And Noah too, of course!"
Lisa remained silent, seemingly lost in thought.
Daniel could tell that she was considering it.
"Lisa, do you think what I said makes sense? Handing this over to Larry would benefit you, our family, and your company!" Daniel smiled.
"But if the project is in your hands, there could be accidents at any time, and that would be a big problem! If any accidents or fatalities happen, you would be responsible, and it might even affect your personal life and family!"
"Personal life and family?"
Lisa glanced at Noah and helplessly said, "To be honest, I didn't really want to take on the CEO position from the beginning because it was too challenging for me, and I wasn’t confident that I could do it well! But senior management specifically named me to do it!
"The key now is, even if I agree, will the senior management of Noah Capital agree?"
Larry and Sarah's eyes lit up when they heard what Lisa said.
"Don't worry about that, I've thought of a plan," said Daniel with a smile.
"Tomorrow, you take Larry to your company and propose this idea to the senior management. You’ll step down and recommend Larry as the new CEO, and explain the reasons behind it."
"I believe those senior executives are not fools, they’ll know who the best candidate for the CEO position is between you and Larry!"
"Well... I'll give it a try tomorrow!" Lisa hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded.
Lisa had agreed because of what Daniel said about the possibility of personal and family consequences if there were accidents and casualties at the construction site.
She immediately thought of Noah.
Lisa had seen many stories of accidents occurring at construction sites and workers causing trouble for their contractors on TV.
If something like happened to her, it could potentially harm Noah. That was why Lisa ultimately decided to agree with Daniel.
"Great! It's settled then!" Daniel was very happy.
"Don't worry, Lisa, I won't forget you once this project is complete!" Larry said immediately.
"If I get any benefits, I’ll definitely share them with you!"
Lisa didn't say anything. She just nodded.
After finishing their meal, Noah and Lisa went home, while Larry and Sarah stayed at Daniel's place.
"Thank you, Dad. If it wasn't for him, Lisa probably wouldn't have agreed to this." Larry raised his glass to Daniel.
"What do you mean probably, she definitely wouldn't have agreed. My sister is really stingy!" Sarah sneered. "I didn't realize it before, but ever since I found out she was secretly saving money behind my back, I feel like she's become even more tight-fisted. Look, Dad hadn’t spoken up and I hadn’t begged her, she would never have agreed to give the CEO position to Larry!"
"Well, I didn't expect Lisa to become like this," Daniel sighed lightly, "Ever since Lisa married that loser Noah, I've noticed some significant changes in her. But Larry, since Lisa gave you this position, you must help her if you accomplish anything in the future."
"Don't worry, I’ll definitely help her," Larry assured Daniel.
"Heh, how will you help her?"
Sarah laughed coldly, "Do you think a mere accountant like her could be a CEO? I think Larry is the most suitable candidate for this!"
"We’re all family Sarah. It wouldn't be right for you to thrive while Lisa lives an ordinary life. We should lend her a hand! Since Noah is useless, Lisa is under a lot of financial stress!" Daniel frowned.
"Alright, I know, Dad. Let's give her some help!" Sarah reluctantly agreed.
"Doesn’t Lisa still live in that run-down apartment building? Once Larry finishes his project and earns some money, we can move to Golden Summit Peak and let Lisa stay in our small villa."
"Even though it'll be second-hand, it’ll still be great for Lisa and Noah to live in a villa! It doesn't matter if it's brand-new or second-hand!"
"Well, that works too," Daniel nodded.
"But we're letting that useless Noah take advantage of us. He doesn't even deserve to live in a second-hand villa!"
