Chapter 75 The Arrival of the Director

The man wore a white shirt and shiny leather shoes. His black hair was combed back and he looked energetic. He was around twenty years old.

It was Jake's son, Mike.

He looked happy. He had just passed the civil service exam and felt confident. He felt like a star and attracted attention wherever he went. A bright future was beckoning to him.

Power, money, beautiful women...

"The Director said he'll be here in a few more minutes." Mike spoke up as soon as he entered the room.

Daniel nodded and looked at Noah with a warning. "Noah, I know you like to act high and mighty even though you have no abilities, but when the Director arrives, you better have some manners and not embarrass me."

"Alright." Noah nodded, with an unchanged expression.

Daniel finally relaxed and said, "Jake, Mike passed the civil service exam, your family will be successful off in the future!"

"Even if we are, we can't compare to your family. In the future, Mike will still have to rely on Larry to take care of him!" Jake laughed.

"Larry! I passed the civil service exam thanks to your help. I won't forget this favor. I’ll toast to you!" Mike lifted his wine glass and toasted Larry.

"There’s no need to be polite, Mike, we’re all family." Larry chuckled. "The Director said he has high hopes for you. In another two or three years, when the Director gets promoted, you might be promoted to section chief!"

Mike's eyes lit up. He was extremely delighted.

"Thank you, Larry!"

He knew that the Director wouldn't have done this if it weren't for Larry.

Mike then looked at Noah, his eyes filled with disdain, and said to Daniel, "I know about the blind date for Lisa, Uncle. When I start working at the Health Bureau, I’ll see if there are any young talents suitable for Lisa in my unit. If there are, I’ll help you be matchmaker!"

"Great! You're so thoughtful at such a young age, Mike! I'll leave Lisa's marriage to you then!!" Daniel was overjoyed.

As for Noah...

Mike looked at Noah. "I didn't plan on inviting you to dinner, you useless man. But legally, you’re Lisa's husband, so I'll let you join us for a meal!"

"Please watch your words, Mike" Lisa frowned.

"Why are you defending that useless man, Lisa?" Mike couldn't understand it. "How could Noah compare to Larry? They’re so different!"

"This is my business, you don't need to interfere," Lisa said coldly.

Mike wanted to say something, but suddenly, they heard the sound of a car outside.

A Volkswagen Passat parked outside the hotel.

The car door opened, and a middle-aged man got out.

The man was wearing a suit, glasses, and was around forty or so. He exuded a faint sense of authority, the kind of temperament that only officials have.

"Director!"

Everyone's eyes lit up.

The man was the Director, the Chief of the Oceanbridge City Health Bureau.

"Hello, everyone!"

The Director entered the room, smiling.

"Director, it's an honor for you to come and have a meal with us!" Jake said.

"Yes!"

"Director, please have a seat!"

Everyone stood up, smiling and trying to please him.

"Hmm?" Daniel's eyes flashed. He noticed that Noah remained seated and didn't move.

"What are you doing, Noah?" Daniel immediately reprimanded him. "The Director is honoring us by joining us for a meal, and everyone stood up to greet him. Why are you sitting down?"

"Noah, my friend, stand up quickly!" Larry said, "You can't be impolite at a time like this!"

"Hehe, maybe he looks down on the Director! He must think he's more important than the Director!" Sarah sneered.

"You should learn from Larry, Noah. Even if you don't learn anything else, at least learn some manners! Don't you understand anything about how to behave in society?" Uncle Jake spoke angrily. If Noah angered the Director and caused trouble for his son Mike, it would be a problem.

"Noah, stand up quickly! Don't be ignorant of etiquette!" Mike shouted coldly. "If you don't want to stand up, then you should leave. You’re not welcome here!"

The Director also looked at Noah with a furrowed brow, feeling somewhat dissatisfied. However, he waved his hand and smiled, saying, "It's okay. Young people don't understand how to do things. Let's all sit down!"

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that the Director was not angry.

"Consider yourself lucky, Noah. The Director is forgiving and won't hold it against you," Mike sneered at Noah. "I'll let it slide this time, but if I invite you to dinner again, I hope you won't shamelessly come for a free meal, you worthless man."

"You’re magnanimous, Director!" Jake gave a thumbs-up. "Noah is impolite, please don't take it to heart. He's just a good-for-nothing who lazes around at home! Come on , let's sit down!"

Jake invited the Director to sit at the head table.

The Director shook his head. "I'll sit next to you. The head seat can remain empty for now. When I arrived, the Chief and I talked, and he mentioned that a new colleague had joined us. He also wanted to come and take a look."

Everyone immediately quieted down when they heard that. Their faces were filled with contemplation, their hearts full of speculation and uneasiness.

Who was the Chief?

If even the director had to call him Chief, could he be...

"Director, who’s the Chief?" Mike's eyes lit up as he asked.

"That's James," the Director said casually.

James was coming!

Everyone was stunned.

James, of course, was the director of the Oceanbridge City Health Bureau.

He was the federal director, and he would even possible serve as a standing committee member of the City Committee in the next five years. He was an influential figure in Oceanbridge City!

Compared to James, they were all ordinary common people.

This was how medieval peasants must have felt when they received news that a nobleman would be coming to their house for dinner.

Nervous, anxious, hopeful, and uneasy...

"Is James really coming?" Mike couldn't help but speak up. Although he had passed the civil service exam, he had never met James in person.

If James really did come to dinner, he would make a good impression on him, which would greatly benefit his career.

"I can't be sure either. James is busy with official business, so he might not come after all. In any case, let's keep the head seat reserved for him," the Director said.

"The Director makes a good point!" Mike nodded. "Even if James doesn't come, we should still reserve this seat for him. It's not for us!"

"Yes!" Jake agreed. "James holds a high position and is influential. We would be happy if he could come and see us!"

"Alright, let's eat," the irector said.

Everyone started their meal and enjoyed the food and drink.
