Chapter 240 Driving a Luxury Mercedes-Benz
"We have, Mr. Anderson," The finance manager chimed in, "Our deputy finance manager has been in the game for a decade. He can definitely handle the finances for Evergreen Market. If you need him, Mr. Anderson, he's your guy."
"Alright, so be him," Noah replied, "I'll be at the office tomorrow to set things up for him to take over the financial matters for Evergreen Market."
"Okay, Mr. Anderson. I'll let him know right away so he can get ready," the finance manager said.
Noah put down his phone and let out a long sigh, the issue with the second public company was resolved.
Turning Evergreen Market into a public company within a year would be tough if they only operated in Oceanbridge City.
They'd need to expand the chain across the entire eastern region, maybe even half of Eagleland, to make it happen.
At the very least, Evergreen Market needed to be in the capital cities of each state in Eagleland.
'Even with hundreds of millions in the account, it might not be enough. Looks like I'll need to ask the family for more money. But there's no rush. First, I need to get the Evergreen Market in Oceanbridge City back to its pre-profit state within three months, then plan for expansion. The next, I should discuss logistics cooperation with the Winchester family. This is a small part of my father's global logistics strategy. I had a significant conflict with Gideon before. Negotiating with the Winchester family won't be easy.' Noah thought, his eyes gleaming.
"Noah! Noah!" A voice suddenly called from downstairs. It was his father-in-law, Daniel.
"Yeah, what is up?" Noah went downstairs and asked.
Daniel was lying on the couch, legs crossed, playing on his phone. He glanced at Noah and said, "George's daughter is coming to the city for work. Go pick her up at the Oceanbridge City train station."
With that, Daniel took out a set of keys and tossed them on the table.
"Take the Mercedes. Don't drive your old car. It'll embarrass our family!"
"George? Who's that?" Noah frowned.
Daniel replied impatiently, "Just go. Make sure you handle it well and don't embarrass me. I've already given George your phone number. He'll call you when they arrive."
"Can't you go yourself?" Noah rolled his eyes, not wanting to go.
"Me?" Daniel's eyes widened, "I'm still recovering. You want me to go pick someone up? What if something happens on the way?"
Noah glanced at Daniel and finally shook his head, heading outside.
Since a relative was coming, it was natural to pick them up.
"Noah, aren't you taking the car keys?" Daniel shouted.
"I'll drive my own car." Noah's voice drifted back.
"What? Your own car?" Daniel's face changed, "No way, you have to take the Mercedes! Driving that old car to pick someone up is too embarrassing. If you embarrass yourself, fine, but what about my dignity?"
Noah ignored him.
By the time Daniel looked outside, Noah was already driving away.
"Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!" Daniel stomped his foot in anger. "We have a Mercedes at home, but he drives that old car to pick up George. When George sees the Mercedes and realizes we don't use it, what will they think? How will I explain it? And driving that old car will definitely get us looked down upon! This useless guy always embarrasses me!"
Oceanbridge City train station was the largest passenger station in the city, combining high-speed rail, train, and bus stations, with a daily flow of hundreds of thousands of people.
About an hour later, Noah arrived, he looked aimlessly out the window.
People hurried in and out of the station, carrying large bags.
After about ten minutes, Noah's phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number.
"Noah, it's George." A slightly deep voice came from the other end. "Where are you? My daughter and I just got off the train. We're coming to find you."
"I'm at the train station exit, license plate ABC 1234, with the hazard lights on. You'll see it when you come out," Noah said calmly.
"Got it! By the way, Daniel said you were coming to pick us up in a luxury Mercedes. Are you driving the Mercedes?" George asked tentatively.
"No, I drove my own car to pick you up," Noah replied calmly.
"So, it's not the Mercedes?" George's voice sounded a bit displeased. "Fine, so be it. Your car will do. Wait there, my daughter and I will grab a bite to eat first. We didn't eat on the train, and we're starving."
"George, we've prepared a feast at home. You can eat when you get there," Noah frowned slightly.
"Cut the crap! Just wait there." George's voice suddenly rose, filled with anger. "I'm your elder. What's wrong with asking you to wait a bit? I'm already being kind by not getting mad that you didn't bring the Mercedes! Now I'm hungry, and you can't wait a bit?"
With that, George hung up.
Noah shook his head helplessly.
He waited for a full hour, almost falling asleep, until someone knocked on his car window did he wake up.
Noah looked over and saw two people standing outside.
One was a middle-aged man, around fifty, with a dark complexion, sunken cheeks, and a short stature. He wore a dirty white coarse cloth shirt, covered in dust, and held a burlap sack.
He was eyeing Noah with a lecherous gaze.
This was George.
Next to him stood a woman in her early twenties, wearing a bright red dress, her face heavily made up with blush, also looking at Noah.
This was George's daughter, Jasmine.
Then, her gaze fell on Noah's car, and disdain appeared.
"Are you Noah?" George looked Noah up and down.
"Yes, that's me." Noah nodded and unlocked the car door.
"Dad, didn't you say it was a Mercedes? Why is it a beat-up car?" Jasmine looked at Noah's car, dissatisfied. "I wanted to experience riding in a Mercedes!"
"Daniel may have a Mercedes, but he wouldn't let Noah drive it. What if it got scratched? That must be it," George chuckled and got in the car.
"Daniel is really not being fair, making Noah drive such a lousy car. He's so mean. I have been looking forward to experiencing a Mercedes ride." Jasmine shook her head helplessly and got in the car.
