Chapter 96 A Walk in a Different Place
"Hello, Uncle," Noah followed Lisa's lead to greet him.
"Hmm, good, you’re very polite!" Lance smiled and handed a cigar to Noah.
"Here, have a smoke. Where do you work, young man?"
"Don't give him that cigar, Lance." Zoe intervened. "Noah is a loser. He doesn't have a job, just sits at home all day, relying on Lisa to support him. He doesn’t deserve to smoke cigars."
"No job?" Lance was taken aback. "Zoe, you're not deceiving me, are you? In this society, is it really possible for someone so young to not have a job?"
"Why would I deceive you?" Zoe said. "He really doesn't have a job. Don't give him any cigars! I brought him here just so he could mooch off the meal. Soon, I'll make Lisa divorce him and have her marry someone else. She’s wasted on him!"
"If they're getting a divorce, then it has nothing to do with us," Lance's smile disappeared, replaced with disdain. He put the cigar back and looked at Noah coldly. "Just have a meal, after all, you’re married to Lisa. But leave as soon as you finish eating."
Following that, Lance led the three of them into the restaurant.
Larry and Sarah were already at the dining table, along with some relatives.
"Heh, now that you have a car, did our mother really need to go pick you up? You’re so spoiled. Couldn't you drive here yourself?" Sarah sneered when she saw Noah and Lisa.
"I didn't know about this, Sarah. Mom came on her own," Lisa replied expressionlessly and took her seat next to Noah.
Before long, the table was filled with relatives.
"So that’s Sarah's husband, Larry? I heard he bought a BMW and lives in a villa. What a success!" Several relatives looked at Larry with admiration and gave him a thumbs up.
"Young man, you must be Lisa's husband, Noah?" another relative, Lisa's third uncle, asked Noah.
Noah nodded.
"You're quite famous! In our hometown, everyone says that Lisa married a loser, and it turns out that you’re that loser!" The third uncle chuckled. "I can’t believe a young person like you won’t get a job and just sits at home all day, relying on someone else for his livelihood. Sigh! It was a waste for Lisa to marry you!"
"Oh, Noah, you're a celebrity now. Everyone in our hometown knows your name!" Sarah sneered.
"In the near future, maybe you can become the owner of the Rolls-Royce and become an internet celebrity!"
"Don't talk nonsense, Sarah. Noah is such a loser, how can he compare to the owner of the Rolls-Royce!"
Zoe glared at Sarah. She also watched the short videos and knew about the owner of a Rolls-Royce, and she was also a fan of his.
"Ah, if only Lisa had married Alex. They’ve known each other since childhood, and Alex even pursued Lisa!" Another relative sighed.
"Now Alex is successful. He works at Oceanbridge City Development Bank, buys houses and cars, and is even marrying a beautiful wife. Lisa, don’t you regret rejecting Alex back then?"
Zoe couldn't bear it and felt ashamed. 'I knew bringing this loser Noah would embarrass me! Now, even Lisa is being embarrassed!'
"I don't regret it!" Lisa said expressionlessly, feeling disgusted with these relatives.
"Oh, I heard Mike passed the civil service exam, but his job was ruined by Noah!" another relative mentioned.
"What happened? Tell us!"
"Well, Mike passed the civil service exam and invited everyone to dinner. Noah shamelessly went there just to have a free meal, but he also disrespected Mike's superiors. While the others went up to greet them, he just sat there and annoyed the leader."
"In the end, the leader fired Mike!"
"This Noah really can't do anything right!"
"That's right!"
The relatives pointed and whispered about Noah.
...
"The bride and groom are here!" someone shouted.
Everyone turned their attention to the entrance of the restaurant, where a man and a woman walked in.
The man was wearing a suit with a red flower on his chest, smiling happily.
The woman wore a wedding dress and had an average-looking face.
"What a perfect match!"
"Yes, Alex seems to have grown taller!"
"The bride is beautiful!"
Amidst the admiration of the crowd, the wedding ceremony began.
Soon, they started going from table to table to offer toasts, and they reached Noah's table.
"I'd like to propose a toast to all of you!" Alex raised his glass with a smile on his face. When he saw Lisa, he looked slightly surprised.
"Lisa, you're here too!"
"Yes," Lisa nodded without even looking at Alex.
"You must be Lisa?" The bride looked at Lisa. "Thank you very much for letting me have such a good husband like Alex."
She held Alex's arm tightly and said, "I heard Alex say that he used to pursue you, but you rejected him. Now Alex is working at Oceanbridge City Development Bank and is about to get promoted to manager. He’s already bought a house and a car. Don't you regret rejecting him back then?"
"Lisa, what happened in the past is over. I’m married now, so your regret is useless," Alex said calmly.
"Ah! Lisa, you should've said yes to Alex back then. Alex is much better than that loser Noah!" Zoe exclaimed with regret on her face.
"I've already said I don't regret marrying Noah," Lisa's voice turned cold.
"Actually, Noah is not bad either. He’s already bought a house!" Larry chimed in.
"He bought a house?" Alex looked at Noah in surprise. As a relative, he had heard about Noah's reputation as a loser.
"How did that loser manage to buy a house?" Alex asked curiously.
"Haha, Alex, Larry was joking with you, but you took it seriously," Sarah chuckled. "Noah did buy a house, but it's just a second-hand, dilapidated house. He only needed to pay a few thousands of dollars as a down payment."
"I see," Alex suddenly realized. "But still, it's a house. Noah, let me know when you move into your new house. I'll contribute some money and come to your place for a drink."
"Got it," Noah replied indifferently.
About an hour later, the meal was over, and everyone went home.
"Hmph, I told you not to bring Noah. Look at how he embarrassed us at the dining table!" Zoe said coldly as she drove the car. "He bought a shabby second-hand house and boasted about it. When Alex said he would contribute money and come for a drink, he was just being polite. That loser actually took it seriously and said 'got it!' He really embarrassed me!
"Noah, you don't actually believe that someone would contribute money and come to your house for a drink just because you bought that shabby house, do you?" Zoe continued.
"When we move into the new house in a few days, will you come?" Noah asked.
"Why wouldn't I go?" Zoe sneered. "You bought a shabby house and boasted about it so much. I want to see what kind of house it is!"
Zoe angrily left in her Passat after they arrived at Elegant Haven.
...
Two days later, after Noah and Lisa finished dinner, they were ready to go downstairs for a walk.
"Let's go for a walk somewhere different today," Noah suddenly said and opened the door of the Mercedes-Benz.
"Somewhere different?" Lisa was a little surprised.
"I think it’s nice for us to take a walk in the neighborhood, but are you saying you want to go to the park?" Lisa asked, confused.
"But the park is too far away. It would waste gas and cost us a few dollars to drive there and back. It's not worth it," Lisa said.
"We're not going to the park, we're going to our new house."
Noah smiled and asked Lisa to get in the car.
