Chapter 128 Resolution
"Lisa, have you lost your mind? You’ll go with what that useless Noah says? Do you really want to send our father to jail?" Sarah exclaimed.
"Yeah, Lisa, your dad raised you single-handedly. Now is the time for you to show filial piety. How can you say something like that?" Larry said, "What's the difference between you and Noah?"
"Lisa, you..." Daniel couldn't find any words. He felt heartbroken, desperate, and furious. Various emotions flooded his mind. His own daughter, whom he had raised, wanted to send him to jail?
"It's not about filial piety." Lisa shook her head, "What dad did was excessive. He attacked Chloe for no reason and falsely accused her of theft, making her kneel. He was in the wrong from the beginning."
"Make your decision quickly. Decide whether to pursue this matter or not, don't waste my time." The police officer looked at Noah with some impatience.
He felt that the relationship between this family was a bit complicated.
"I'll stick to what I said earlier. Daniel, kneel down and apologize to Chloe. We can call it a day then. If you don’t, the police can take him back for investigation, his sentence is not my concern," Noah said expressionlessly.
"Understood." The police officer took out handcuffs and looked at Daniel, "You heard what he said. Will you kneel down and apologize or come with me for investigation? It's your decision."
Larry and Sarah felt a knot in their hearts, cold sweat appeared on their foreheads.
The police officer had said those words, and at this point, they were helpless.
Because in the face of the law, they were powerless.
Daniel trembled all over, his face turning red, his expression complex and bitter.
Daniel turned to Chloe, his voice trembling. "Chloe... I'm sorry, I apologize to you." At this moment, everyone present fell silent, their hearts filled with mixed emotions. Daniel knelt down and apologized. They hadn’t imagined that the person with the highest status in the family would kneel down and admit his mistake.
"Now that Daniel has knelt down and apologized, we can forget about the theft of the bull horn," Noah said, folding his hands behind his back with a calm expression. "I will pretend it never happened."
With that, he turned to the police officer and smiled. "Thank you for your trouble, officer."
"It's no problem, it's my duty," the police officer said, waving his hand, then turned his gaze back to Daniel. "Stealing property is a criminal act. Although it might be considered a family dispute according to the law, if the owner of the property decides to pursue it, your actions still violate the law. I hope you remember that."
"Thank you for the advice, officer. I will remember it," Daniel said, his voice trembling.
"Okay, I'll be on my way then," the police officer nodded and walked away.
"Daniel!" Noah called out.
"Hey dad, get up!" Larry and Sarah approached and helped Daniel up.
"Dad, if things don't work out, you don't have to stay here. Come to our house, we have a mansion too!" Sarah's eyes were still filled with tears.
"They treat you like this, and staying here means putting up with Noah's uselessness and Lisa's temper, right?"
"No, I want to stay here!"
Daniel waved his hand, trembling as he stood up, his expression determined.
"You all know, my biggest dream is to live in the Summit Retreat Oasis. Now that I finally have the chance to live here, I can't just move away."
Sarah and Larry's expressions changed, and in the end, they could only shake their heads helplessly.
"Alright, I'm tired. I'll go upstairs and rest." Daniel walked toward the stairs.
"Noah, you useless fool. You made my dad kneel down and apologize today. This is the only time this will ever happen! If this happens again, I won't be nice." Sarah threatened Noah coldly.
Noah smiled and didn't respond. He didn’t take her words seriously.
After Larry and Sarah walked away, Noah turned to Lisa and said, "Lisa, go upstairs and ask Daniel why he stole the money. He gets a pension every month, so he's not short on cash. There's no reason for him to do something like this."
Lisa's eyes flickered and she immediately said, "I'll go up and ask."
Noah nodded.
Twenty minutes later, Lisa came downstairs, but her expression was somewhat gloomy.
"I asked, Dad was tricked into giving away the money." Lisa sat down next to Noah.
"Tricked?" Noah's eyes flickered slightly. It was similar to what he had anticipated. "Tell me the details, how was he tricked?"
"It happened last month, when Dad was walking in the park. He saw a salesperson promoting a financial product that claimed to have high interest rates. If you bought the product for a hundred thousand dollars, by the end of the year, the interest would keep compounding and you would receive a million dollars in dividends." Lisa shook her head and sighed.
"That scheme was obviously a scam, but Dad believed it. He said many elderly people in the park bought that product, even withdrawing all their pensions, and they did receive dividends."
"These old people were probably paid actors."
Noah also felt helpless. His father-in-law was greedy and lacked any rationality when it came to money.
"It's true, they were paid actors. The salespeople were targeting the elderly people in the park to sell those financial products. These people may not have high levels of knowledge or understanding of online platforms and financial products, but they do have some spare money, which makes them easy targets," Lisa nodded.
"How much money did Dad spend on that financial product?" Noah asked.
"Five hundred thousand dollars," Lisa said solemnly. "That was all the savings he had, and just two days ago, he tried to call the financial product salesperson and found that the number was disconnected. He suspects that the person took the money and ran away
"Right now, Dad doesn't have a penny to his name. He will certainly have expenses in the future, like hospital stays, medical treatments, and medicine. He didn't want to keep asking his children for money as it was embarrassing, so he decided to sell that bull horn."
Noah couldn't help but find it amusing. Daniel was someone who cared about his reputation.
However, he was also very greedy, and he had been deceived because of that trait. It was a futile effort in the end.
"I just hope that Dad has learned his lesson this time," Lisa sighed. "Hopefully, he'll learn from this mistake. He was scammed out of five hundred thousand dollars, and it's hard to find the criminals now with so many online scams. Reporting it to the police is useless."
"I'm going back to work, honey." Lisa stood up.
"How's work been these days?" Noah asked casually.
"It's been good, quite smooth." Lisa smiled slightly. When she mentioned work, her mood improved. "The poverty-stricken area redevelopment project has been going well so far, especially the resettlement compensation. I went to the area yesterday, and everything is progressing in an orderly manner. You know what? The executives at Noah Capital Group are really good at selecting people. They appointed Ethan to be in charge of the compensation, and there haven't been any violent incidents under his leadership."
"That's good to hear."
Noah nodded, feeling relieved.
"Alright, honey, I have to go to work now!" Lisa said.
Noah nodded again and added, "By the way, could you give me the number of the financial product salesperson? I want to call and check."
"Okay, I'll send it to you. But there's no need to call because I already tried, and it's a disconnected number." Lisa sent the number to Noah and prepared to leave for work.
Noah escorted Lisa outside the villa. When the car drove away, he returned to the house. His eyes flickered as he looked at the salesperson's number on his phone.
Daniel was Noah's father-in-law. He was arrogant, greedy, concerned about his reputation, and vain...
In short, he had many flaws, and Noah didn't really like him.
But still, he was his father-in-law, and he had been scammed out of five hundred thousand dollars. Noah couldn't just sit idly by.
Noah dialed the salesperson's number on his phone.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is disconnected..." came the voice.
Noah wasn't surprised. He dialed Mason's number instead.
"Hey, Noah," Mason said.
"What are you up to?" Noah asked casually.
"Reading the scriptures, this sutra contains profound teachings. The more I read, the more I feel that the world is nothing but a sea of suffering. Fame, wealth, power, and status are all illusions. These days, I’ve been considering leaving my position."
Noah shook his head helplessly. "You're still so young, and you want to retire already? If you step down, who will take your place?"
"I haven't thought about that yet, but if you know a suitable candidate, let me know," Mason said with a smile.
