Chapter 94 Human Hearts

"Okay, okay, I'll transfer the money!" Julius dared not disobey and picked up the card to make the transfer.

"The money has been transferred." Julius showed the transfer information to Noah.

"Take the one million dollars and go see a doctor first, then use the remaining money to do start a small business. Don't work as a security guard anymore." Noah helped the security guard up.

"Thank you!" The security guard looked at Noah gratefully. He could never earn one million dollars in his lifetime, but now, he had suddenly received it. He felt like he was dreaming.

"I’ll go to see a doctor now." The security guard limped down the mountain.

"Get have someone to take him to the hospital," Noah said, looking at Julius.

"Okay!" Julius immediately gave the order. Soon, a BMW M4 drove out and took the security guard from Golden Summit Peak to the hospital.

"Julius, you’ve been spoiled since you were a child and you’ve been arrogant because of my love for you." Donovan came over and coldly spoke, "You must remember what Noah taught you today and correct your mistakes."

"I’ll definitely change, Grandfather!" Donovan trembled.

"You should thank Noah for educating you, it’s blessing for you!" Donovan added.

Julius glanced at Noah, clenched his teeth, and finally said, "Thank you, Noah!"

"Take him to the hospital as well," Noah said lightly. After speaking, he turned around and walked toward the villa with his hands behind his back.

...

Noah and Donovan sat on opposite sides of a stone table in the small courtyard of the villa. There was a chessboard and tea on the table, and bird songs could be heard in the surroundings.

"I didn't expect that you started a family after so many years, Noah. Why didn't you bring Lisa over to see this villa?" Donovan leisurely said, moving a chess piece.

"She’s busy with work, and I plan to bring her over when the villa is renovated," Noah replied, staring at the chessboard.

"That works too," Donovan nodded, and then asked, "How is Larry doing now? If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be in my current position. I’ve always been grateful to Larry!"

"He’s a busy man, and I don't know what he’s been up to lately." Noah shook his head.

Donovan glanced at Noah and smiled, "It seems like you still have a grudge against Larry."

Noah didn't say anything, he just moved the chess piece.

Donovan's face showed a hint of awkwardness as he changed the subject. "Noah, since the restrictions on your identity have been lifted, Oceanbridge City can no longer accommodate you. I wonder, what are your future plans?"

"I just want to live a normal life with my loved ones. I’m not really interested in power or conflicts over money," Noah said lightly, moving the chess pieces. "You lost!"

Donovan glanced at the chessboard, slightly surprised, then burst into laughter.

"Ten years have passed, but your chess skills remain as strong as ever. You appeared to be calm without any malicious intent, but you secretly harbored a sharp edge that would send chills down anyone's spine. I’ve been defeated!"

Noah remained silent, turned, and walked out of Donovan's villa.

As Donovan watched Noah's departing figure, he sighed softly.

"The way of chess is akin to the way of life. Noah may seem gentle and refined on the surface, as if he only wishes to live a peaceful life without making enemies. But if you provoke him, you will face a fierce counterattack he will not relent from!

"After all, he’s Larry's only son. He’s no ordinary man?

"And in that position, there’ll be no escaping various conflicts, no matter how much he tries to avoid them!"

...

Noah rode his bicycle home after leaving the villa area.

He had not been home for long when there was a knock on the door.

'It couldn't be Mia again, could it?'

Noah furrowed his brows and went to open the door.

The door opened, revealing a woman standing outside.

She was in her fifties or sixties, slightly overweight, dressed in garish red and purple clothing, adorned with jade and gold rings on her chubby fingers.

"Zoe?" Noah exclaimed in surprise.

It was none other than Noah's mother-in-law, Zoe.

"Well, well, such sweet words," Zoe sneered, paying no attention to Noah as she stepped into the house.

"But being nice to me won't change a thing. You're still worthless, spending your days at home without ambition. Someone like you can never be my son-in-law."

She sat on the sofa, picked up a piece of fruit from the coffee table, took a bite, and grumbled in dissatisfaction, "What a lousy apple. It's sour and astringent. I knew it. Lisa hasn't had a good life with you, she doesn’t even have decent fruits to eat."

Zoe threw the bitten apple into the trash can, saying, "In our family, we have watermelons and mangoes. Just look at what you have. Sigh, how did my daughter fall for you?"

Noah furrowed his brows, but since she was still his mother-in-law, he politely poured her a glass of warm water e.

"If the apple is sour, have some water."

"Hmph, don't try to win me over. When I find a suitable person, you and Lisa will get a divorce. You'll become a stranger to me as a worthless person !"

Zoe gave Noah a scornful look. "Don't think that being polite will stop me from kicking you out."

Since Zoe said that, Noah saw no need to continue being polite. He sat down and asked, "What brings you here?"

"I have something to discuss of course. Otherwise, why would I climb up the stairs in this shabby neighborhood and exhaust myself?"

Zoe said, "A relative's son on my side of the family is having his wedding today. I want to take Lisa there. Larry and Sarah are already going. As for you, you can stay here and watch the house."

As she finished speaking, they heard the door unlocking. Lisa was back.

"Why are you here, Mom?" Lisa was surprised to see Zoe.

"What? Can't I come?" Zoe replied. "I'm here to take you to your uncle's wedding banquet."

Zoe explained the situation.

Lisa shook her head, "What's so good about a wedding banquet? I don't want to go."

"You little rebel. You dare to defy your mother just because you're married?" Zoe got angry and said, "Let me tell you, I’ll kick that useless Noah out sooner or later!"

"I just don't want to go!"

Lisa shook her head and said, "Even if I do go, I want to bring my husband along! Why can't I bring my husband when my older sister can bring Larry?"

"But can Noah be compared to Larry?" Zoe’s eyes widened and she said, "When they ask about Larry's job, he can say he works in engineering and drives a BMW. How prestigious is that?

"And what about Noah? When people ask about your husband's job, he’ll have to say he doesn't have one and just stays home every day doing nothing? I’ll be embarrassed even if you won’t be!"

"You’ll be embarrassed, not me. Regardless, if my husband doesn't go, I won't go either."

"Fine, fine! That useless Noah can go!" Zoe compromised. "But listen up, Noah. When you're at the table, just focus on eating. Don't say anything stupid! It's already good enough that you get to have a free meal!"
