Chapter 289 Visiting Again
"I..." Jack opened his mouth, then lowered his head and said, "Mr. Anderson, I know I messed up!"
He realized that trying to explain himself was pointless now. Things had gotten so bad that all he could do was own up to his mistakes.
"Mr. Anderson, I screwed up and I'll take whatever punishment you decide," Jack added.
Noah glanced at Jack. "Tomorrow, return all the money you collected. That was Lucas's account, not yours. I don't want another Lucas situation. Since Lucas is already out of the picture, those accounts should disappear too."
"Yes, Mr. Anderson. I'll handle it tomorrow," Jack replied, not daring to refuse.
"Also, you caused people to lose their homes and families. You need to apologize and compensate them out of your own pocket," Noah continued.
"Yes, Mr. Anderson!"
"And from today onwards, you're done with loan sharking," Noah's voice was firm, leaving no room for argument.
"Yes, Mr. Anderson!" Jack's body trembled as he added, "By the way, Mr. Anderson, I have an account from when I acted as a middleman for wealthy people to lend money at high interest rates. What should I do with it?"
Since Noah forbade him from any involvement in loan sharking, Jack knew he couldn't continue as a middleman either.
"Let me see the account," Noah said calmly.
"Okay!" Jack ran to the Buick business car, retrieved a small notebook, and respectfully handed it to Noah.
"This has the basic info of the lenders," Jack explained.
Noah nodded and opened the notebook. It read:
[Nico, lent $1 million, monthly interest 4%.]
[Sterling, lent $2.5 million, monthly interest 3%.]
[Wilder, lent $1.8 million, monthly interest 5%.]
Noah's gaze turned cold. With a minimum monthly interest rate of 3%, these were indeed high-interest loans.
He turned to the second page and his eyes narrowed:
[Larry, lent $3 million, monthly interest 6%!]
"Larry?" Noah looked at Jack. "What's Larry's deal?"
"He's in construction. Recently, he's been quite popular on TV, participating in 'I Am a Super Rich,'" Jack explained. "The $3 million was given to him by the show's production team. He saw my ad and contacted me to help him lend the money, splitting the interest."
"With a 6% monthly interest rate, $3 million would generate $180,000 in interest per month, totaling $2.16 million a year!"
"I didn't expect Larry to secretly lend money at high interest rates, and using the show's funds, which are my sponsorship money," Noah's gaze turned icy.
"Mr. Anderson, what should I do with this account?" Jack hesitated to ask.
Most of the money had already been lent out, with the interest terms set, and most of it hadn't matured yet, making it a tricky situation.
"Talk to the borrowers and get the principal back without interest," Noah instructed. "If the borrowers refuse to repay, you'll have to cover the amount yourself. This is also part of your punishment."
"Yes, Mr. Anderson!" Jack's heart ached. The accounts in the notebook totaled six to seven million dollars, a significant amount for him. But he dared not disobey Noah's orders.
"Remember what I said. From now on, you're done with loan sharking."
Returning the notebook to Jack, Noah added, "Otherwise, you can go back to being a small-time thug on Orchard Breeze Avenue."
"Yes, Mr. Anderson!" Jack's body trembled, and cold sweat dripped from his forehead. "I swear, from today on, I will never touch loan sharking again!"
Noah nodded. "Also, you will compensate for the damaged goods at the supermarket."
"I understand!"
After chatting with Timothy for a while and instructing him to manage the supermarket well, Noah finally went home.
At Evergreen Market, Noah decided that during the recovery period, he would also start planning the layout for chain stores. However, this step faced significant resistance.
In Oceanbridge City, it would be easier since Noah had considerable influence there. Opening branches would face little resistance. But opening branches in other cities, or even across the eastern part of Eagleland, would be challenging.
"Listing within a year is really tough!" Noah shook his head. He stopped thinking about it and picked up his phone to send Nathan a message on Facebook: [Kick Larry out of 'I Am a Super Rich' and recover the $10 million.]
The next morning, Noah followed his usual routine, getting up, washing up, and eating the breakfast Chloe had prepared.
"Mr. Anderson, we have guests," Chloe called out as Noah came downstairs.
Noah looked over to see Daniel, Larry, and Sarah sitting at the dining table, eating the breakfast Chloe had prepared for him.
"It's been a few days since I had Chloe's cooking. I missed it," Daniel said smugly, taking a bite of a sandwich.
"Chloe, your breakfast is so good. Why don't you come work for us? We need a housekeeper," Sarah said, sipping her porridge. "Noah pays you $6,000 a month, right? How about I give you $10,000 a month to work for us?"
"Sorry, I won't leave unless Mr. Anderson fires me," Chloe replied with a forced smile. Seeing Noah come downstairs, she quickly served him a bowl of porridge.
"Chloe, you can go about your business," Noah said, sitting down and sipping the hot porridge.
"Okay!" Chloe quickly left. She felt uneasy with Daniel and the others around, but she knew they were Noah's family and had to be treated with respect. That's why she had also served them breakfast.
"You came yesterday and now again today. Do you have something to say? If not, get out," Noah said impatiently, picking up a fried egg and chewing it without looking at them.
"Noah, we were thinking about you, and this is your attitude?" Sarah glared at him.
"What are you thinking about for me?" Noah asked.
"Noah, you're my son-in-law. 'I Am a Super Rich' has millions of viewers, and they all look down on you. It's one thing for you to lose face, but you can't drag the Wilson family down with you," Daniel said. "You may not care about your reputation, but I, Daniel, do!"
"I thought about it all night and decided that you don't need to kneel. Just say sorry to the three of us, and we'll record it on video. This will help clean up your image and restore some dignity to the Wilson family."
"Sorry?" Noah sneered. "I don't think I have anything to apologize to you for."
