Chapter 349 Prince Charming
"Skipping out on the bill, Noah? That's pretty low," Francis said, staring at Noah. "I gotta admit, your guitar skills are amazing, way better than mine. You'd make a great teacher."
"But," he went on, "I didn't expect you to ditch a bill. How can someone like that be a teacher and mentor students? Got anything to say for yourself?"
Noah gave a faint smile. "I usually keep to myself. But I don't like being accused of something I didn't do. I didn't skip out on the bill. I have plenty of money, so there's no need for that."
"Plenty of money?" Kurt sneered. "Noah, you're an outsider. What kind of money could you possibly have?"
"Yeah, Noah," Audrey added mockingly. "Even if you have money, how much could it be? A few thousand dollars? That meal cost more than your annual salary. And if you didn't skip out on the bill, how do you explain the cut on your face?"
"Noah, if you have nothing more to say, go to the finance office, collect your paycheck, and leave," Francis said, clearly not buying Noah's story. He was convinced Noah had skipped out on the bill and had serious character issues.
"Noah, did you hear that? Mr. Vasquez wants you to collect your paycheck and leave!" Kurt shouted, grinning. "Get out of here!"
"Get lost, Noah!" Audrey chimed in. "Someone like you doesn't deserve to be my colleague. I don't hang out with people of poor character!"
Noah smiled again, saying nothing. Leaving didn't bother him; he didn't rely on this job to make a living. He had taken the teaching position just to keep himself busy.
"Is there a car parked on Cedar Lane that belongs to one of your guitar teachers?" a man in a construction helmet and worker's outfit suddenly asked as he walked into the room.
"What's going on?" Kurt asked, worried. His BMW 3 Series was parked on Cedar Lane.
"The city has a road expansion project, and Cedar Lane is part of it. We need to clear the road now. If anyone has a car parked downstairs, move it to the parking lot to avoid any trouble," the man explained.
"I'll go right away!" Kurt's face changed, and he hurried out. This was a government project, and the workers had the city's backing. If a car was in the way, they wouldn't hesitate to tow it.
His BMW 3 Series was brand new, and any damage would be heartbreaking.
"I'll go too," Francis said, standing up. His car was also parked on Cedar Lane.
"And me!" Audrey said quickly.
"Ms. Carroll, you don't have a car. Why are you going?" Kurt asked, puzzled.
"You don't get it. There's a GMC parked downstairs, and its owner is my Prince Charming!" Audrey said, pushing up her glasses, her cheeks flushing. "I tried to wait for the owner yesterday afternoon, but I missed him. This time, I have to seize the opportunity!"
"Wow, Ms. Carroll, you're really something. You went to wait for the car owner while we weren't looking!"
"Unbelievable!"
"No way, I'm going too! I want to meet the GMC owner. He's also my Prince Charming!"
The other female teachers, realizing what was happening, quickly followed suit, eager to meet the car owner.
Kurt's face darkened. He hadn't expected everyone to be so interested in the GMC owner. He felt frustrated and annoyed. He had just managed to get Francis to fire Noah, the poor outsider, and now there was a new rival stealing his thunder.
But even though he was upset, Kurt had no outlet for his frustration.
Noah walked towards the exit.
"Noah, where are you going?" Kurt called out mockingly. "The finance office is to your left. Why are you heading outside? Are you really going to leave without collecting your paycheck? That's a few hundred dollars, which is a lot for you!"
"I'm going to move my car," Noah said calmly.
"Move your car?" Kurt and the others were stunned.
"Why haven't we seen you with your car keys before?" Kurt said, smirking and jingling his BMW keys.
He was showing off.
"Mr. Lowe, Noah's been fired. Stop making fun of him," Audrey said, exasperated. "Even if he has a car, it's probably an electric one, or maybe even a bicycle!"
"Just go to the finance office, collect your paycheck, and leave."
The female teachers chimed in.
Noah ignored them and headed for the escalator.
"Let's hurry up too!" Audrey urged. "If we're late, my Prince Charming might have already moved his car, and I'll have missed my chance."
"Okay!"
"Hurry, hurry! I can't wait to meet my Prince Charming. It's so exciting!"
The female teachers quickened their pace.
Downstairs at Silverline Square, on Cedar Lane, the road was already blocked off with yellow detour signs. Excavators and steamrollers were rumbling, and workers in hard hats were moving about.
"Silverlight City is developing so fast. Cedar Lane is already wide enough, but they're expanding it. The city must have a lot of money! Most of these workers are outsiders like Noah, contributing to Silverlight City but unable to afford a house here," Kurt said, looking around with pride, his local pride swelling.
He then pressed his car key, and the lights of his BMW 3 Series flashed.
"The GMC is still here!"
"The owner hasn't come yet! Let's wait here!" Audrey and the other female teachers were thrilled to see the GMC still parked there, their faces flushed with excitement.
"I'm about to meet my Prince Charming. Should I touch up my makeup to make a good impression?" Audrey asked, pulling out a small makeup mirror.
"Ms. Carroll, don't get too confident. The GMC owner might like me instead!" one of the female teachers retorted.
Seeing this, Kurt was furious. The female teachers were fighting over someone they hadn't even met, completely ignoring him and his BMW, which made him very unhappy.
"Noah, where's your electric bike?" Kurt vented his frustration on Noah. "Let me see what it looks like. Or is it a bicycle?"
Noah ignored Kurt and took out his car key.
The lights of the GMC flashed.
"The car lights are on!"
"The GMC owner is here!"
Seeing this, Audrey's heart leaped into her throat. She was so excited that she trembled, her legs went weak, and her face turned bright red.
