Chapter 121 Becoming My Dad
Daniel felt deeply indebted to his daughter, Luna, so he always complied with her.
"Hmph, that sounds about right!"
When Luna saw Daniel head to the kitchen, she immediately stopped crying and smirked triumphantly.
The next day, Noah decided to hire a housekeeper to help with cooking at home. Since there were more people iPn the house, Lisa couldn't handle everything by herself.
After leaving the house, Noah borrowed a car from Donovan and drove out of Golden Summit Peak.
While he was on the road, his phone suddenly rang.
"Hello, Noah," Ethan said.
"What's the matter?" Noah asked.
"Grace and her family have been moved into temporary housing. She asked me to tell you that she wants to treat you to a meal to express her gratitude," Ethan said with a smile.
"A meal?" Noah was slightly taken aback, but when he thought about Scarlett's adorable face, he nodded and replied, "Alright, I'll go."
"Great. Just let me know when you get to the slums, and I'll take you to the temporary housing," Ethan added, "Noah, Grace is known as the charming widow of the slums and nicknamed the 'Breakfast Beauty'. When she asked me to pass on the message, her face turned red. I feel like she has a crush on you."
"Forget it, she already has a daughter. Besides, I’m already married. There are boundaries I won't cross. We’ll just have a simple meal," Noah said calmly.
"Wow, Noah, you're amazing. Your sense of integrity puts me to shame!" Ethan exclaimed admiringly.
"Alright, enough with the flattery. I'm hanging up now."
After ending the call, Noah turned the car around and headed for the slums.
When he arrived, Ethan was already there to greet him and took him to the temporary housing where Grace lived.
It was a makeshift structure made of blue wooden boards, and many residents from the slums who had been relocated lived nearby. A long thin rope hung in front of the door, with various clothes hanging on it. There were several children playing around the area, and among them was Scarlett.
She was wearing a white dress, with her hair styled in twin ponytails. Her face was delicate and beautiful, like a little princess.
"Mr. Noah is here!"
Scarlett bounced over and hugged his legs, looking up at him with her big blinking eyes.
Noah affectionately ruffled Scarlett's head.
"Mom, Mr. Noah is here!" Scarlett shouted into the room.
The door opened and a woman appeared. She wore a white scarf and a plain white shirt. She had a full chest, and even though she was almost thirty, her waist was still slim without any sign of weight gain. Her skin was well-maintained, fair and translucent, giving off a mature woman's aura.
It was Grace.
She held a cloth in her hand. When she saw Noah, her expression was somewhat reserved, but her eyes were full of joy mixed with a touch of shyness.
"You're here?"
"Yeah," Noah nodded, his expression unchanged, and entered the house.
Inside the house were steamers, stools, tables, and various breakfast utensils, with the lighting slightly dim.
"The room is a bit messy, I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Grace rubbed her hands.
"It's alright, I'm not particular about things like that," Noah casually replied, finding a chair to sit on.
"The food will be ready soon, why don't you sit here for a while?"
"Sure."
"Help me with my homework, Mr. Noah! This question is really difficult," Scarlett came over with her exercise book.
Noah smiled and taught Scarlett her homework.
In the kitchen, Grace, who was cooking, occasionally glanced at the room and saw Noah teaching Scarlett with laughter. A faint blush appeared on her face.
"The food is ready!"
A few minutes later, Grace brought the dishes to the table. They were all ordinary home-cooked dishes, Bagels with cream cheese, pancakes...
Although they were ordinary dishes, Noah smelled the rich aroma and exclaimed, "You're quite skilled at cooking, Grace!"
"It's not that great, I've just been learning on my own, I’ve never had any formal training." Grace smiled, but she was still happy to be praised by Noah.
After the dishes were laid on the table, the three of them began to eat.
"How is living in the temporary housing?" Noah casually asked.
"It's alright, it’s just a bit hot to sleep at night, but there's a fan," Grace tied her hair behind her ears and ate her meal.
"If it's too hot, you can install an air conditioner. Once the new house is built, you can use it there too," Noah suggested with a smile.
...
The two of them chatted about everyday topics.
Noah could tell that Grace was a strong woman from their conversation. With her looks, she could easily find another husband after her husband passed away, yet she continued to live alone with Scarlett.
As for Grace, she felt that Noah was a responsible, dependable, and polite man, and she had a good impression of him.
"Mr. Noah, since you get along so well with my mom, why don't you become my dad?" Scarlett suddenly said.
When Noah and Grace heard those words, they both froze.
"Eat properly and don't talk nonsense. Just keep eating!"
Grace glared fiercely at Scarlett.
"I'm not wrong!"
Scarlett blinked her big eyes. "Mom, I’m sure you like Mr. Noah. Last night, you had a dream and kept saying Mr. Noah's name in your sleep!"
"Besides, Mr. Noah is handsome, and I wouldn't mind him being my dad!"
A blush appeared on Grace's face. She felt a mix of shyness and anger. She wanted to scold her daughter but couldn't bring herself to do it.
Noah couldn't hold his composure either. He picked up a piece of meat and put it into Scarlett's bowl, smiling.
"Scarlett, I can't be your dad because I'm already married! How about I be your big brother instead?"
"What? You're married?" Scarlett sighed deeply, disappointed all over her face.
Grace's expression changed slightly, with a hint of disappointment and sorrow in her eyes.
"I didn't expect you to be so young and already married. If I had known and invited you over for dinner, would your wife have...."
"Don't worry, my wife is very open-minded." Noah interrupted with a wave of his hand. "And I wouldn't do anything to hurt her."
"Well then."
Grace nodded. In the dim lighting, her eyes appeared a bit teary.
Thirty minutes later, the meal was over.
Grace saw Noah off from the impoverished area.
As she watched the car drive away, tears rolled down Grace's cheeks.
"Mom, if you like Mr. Noah so much, why don't you tell him that?" Scarlett blinked her big eyes, full of confusion.
"What? He’s responsible, courageous, and polite. Even ordinary girls don't deserve him. As for me, I’m just a widow, and even less deserving of him. What would be the use of telling him?"
Grace shook her head. "Anyway, he’s already married. I can't do anything to hurt someone else's family!"
Scarlett nodded, understanding.
"But I've made a decision. I won't get married again in this lifetime."
Grace wiped away her tears and watched Noah, as if she wanted to etch him into her heart.
"That's great! I only like Mr. Noah anyway. I wouldn't be happy if you found another man!" Scarlett laughed.
In the impoverished area, Noah drove his car to a nearby household services company.
