Chapter 77 Mother-in-Law Has Arrived

"Noah, are you deaf? Can't you hear me?"

Mike became furious as he realized he was being ignored.

He walked up and grabbed Noah's arm, trying to pull him up.

"Hmm?"

Mike used all his strength, but found that Noah didn't budge, as if he was glued to the chair.

"Take it easy, Mike. Pull him down to the ground. That useless person will definitely swindle us! We'll end up losing money!" Jake reminded.

"Alright, alright, let's not worry about such a small issue. Let's eat first," James spoke up.

But his gaze fell on Noah, his face thoughtful, as if he was trying to guess something.

Noah also looked at James, a mysterious smile curving his lips.

That smile made James's pupils shrink, he trembled slightly, and he vaguely felt that his guess was correct.

"Come on, James, sit at the head of the table. We reserved the seat for you!" Jake beckoned.

James had experienced many things. His heart was shaken, but he kept a calm expression on his face as he took his seat at the head, with a gentle smile on his face.

“Let’s start eating, everyone!”

Once again, everyone began their meal.

“Hmph, Noah, looks like you're getting another free meal!" Mike looked coldly at Noah.

"From now on, the next time we dine out, I hope you won't join us so shamelessly. Besides, I'm a government official now, and someone without a job like you is not good enough to sit at the same table as me!"

Noah maintained his composure and continued eating.

During the meal, Noah needed to use the restroom, so he got up and left the table.

He was sitting in a inconspicuous corner, so no one noticed him leaving.

But James did.

"My stomach hurts, I'm going to the restroom. Take your time, everyone!"

James stood up and left the table, amidst a chorus of flattery, he made his way to the restroom.

Noah had already come out and was washing his hands. He saw James approaching through the mirror in front of him.

"Did John call me to help transfer Daniel to another hospital? Was it because of you?" James looked at the young man in front of him, hesitating for a moment before asking uncertainly.

"You're quite clever, James." Noah smiled faintly.

James trembled all over, feeling extremely shocked. It seemed that his guess was correct. The young man in front of him, Noah, was the man John had mentioned, and had some relationship with Daniel.

"Noah, I was rude to you, I hope you don't mind!" James apologized.

"You've been very polite, at least to my father-in-law." Noah wiped his hands dry, his face filled with a smile.

"But I heard them talking, and it seems like your relatives have a strong prejudice against you."

James glanced at Noah. "Don't they know who you really are, Noah?"

"There's no need for them to know any of that. I just want to live an ordinary life, and my wife Lisa wants the same thing," Noah said casually.

"But Noah, they were so disrespectful to you, aren't you angry?" James asked again.

"I can endure for her. If we get into an argument, she’ll be caught in a dilemma between her father, who had raised her, and her husband," Noah said indifferently. "Besides, it does look like I am somewhat pathetic."

"Oh, by the way, did Mike join the Department of Health as a civil servant recently?" Noah asked casually.

"Yes," James nodded. "During the Director was in charge of the interview. He was underhanded and gave him a perfect score, which is how he became a civil servant."

"If he did that, then I can certainly take away what he’s acting so proud of now," Noah said expressionlessly.

James' eyes flickered. "What do you mean, Noah?"

"I mean, someone else should take his place as a civil servant, at least someone more capable than Mike," Noah said in a cold voice.

"I understand. I’ll remove his file later and inform him about this," James nodded. It was an easy task for him.

Noah didn't say anything more and returned to the dining table.

After a while, James also came back.

"James, did you and Noah go to the restroom together? And did Noah disrespect you?" Mike asked with a fake smile.

James didn't even look at him and sat down at the table, which made Mike feel embarrassed.

After a few minutes of eating, James said he had some business to attend to and wanted to leave. The Director followed suit.

"Since James is leaving, let's all see him off!" Everyone stood up to see James off.

"Noah, this is your last chance. If you don't see James off, and irritate him, you'll see how I deal with you!" Mike threatened, looking at Noah who appeared to be sitting there cluelessly.

"No need for that. You can all sit down and eat," James said expressionlessly to everyone, exuding an aura of power.

"Yes, yes!"

"In that case, we won't see him off!"

Everyone immediately sat back down, realizing that James was somewhat angry.

After James left, Jake wondered, "Why is James angry?"

"Yeah, we showed him respect and never offended him!" Mike also couldn't understand it. His gaze shifted toward Noah.

"Noah, you and James just went to the restroom. Did you disrespect him? Why would James be angry otherwise?" Mike asked, his complexion changing.

"Do you think I'm like you, always biting at people?" Noah sneered and glanced at Mike. He could tolerate his father-in-law, after all, he was an elder, and he needed to maintain Lisa's relationship with her father to avoid putting her in a difficult position.

But Mike had been constantly ridiculing Noah, and Noah didn't feel like tolerating him anymore.

"What do you mean, always biting at people?" Mike's face changed.

"Don't you understand? What I mean is, you’re a dog who likes to bite people." Noah rolled his eyes.

"How dare you insult me by calling me a dog!"

Mike was furious and rolled up his sleeves, ready to fight Noah.

How could this useless person dare to insult him?

"What, did I say something wrong?" Noah retorted.

"You useless man, I’ll beat you up today!"

Mike walked toward Noah.

"Oh, it's quite lively in here, the whole family is gathered together!" A mocking voice came from outside.

A woman walked in.

She was around fifty years old, slightly overweight, dressed in a vibrant red dress. She wore a gold necklace around her neck and her chubby fingers were adorned with rings.

"Sophia!"

Mike's eyes brightened at the sight of the woman.

"Mom!" Both Lisa and Sarah exclaimed.

"Why are you here?" Daniel frowned.

"Oh, can't I come?" The woman rolled her eyes. "My nephew passed the civil service exam, I'm happy for him. Can't I join you for a meal? You can't possibly think that our relatives should cut off contact with me just because we divorced, Daniel!"

This woman was Zoe, Daniel's ex-wife. They had been divorced for many years.

She was also Noah's mother-in-law.
