Chapter 109 The Unruly Woman
Nia and Sterling had been tight since they were kids, so Bella didn't dare to criticize her.
In the end, Sterling insisted Bella sleep in the master bedroom. Bella snorted, "Get rid of the bedsheets."
Sterling chuckled, "Sure thing."
Sterling had just gotten back and was exhausted. After having Zoey quickly clean up the master bedroom, he went to catch some Z's.
By noon, when Zoey had lunch ready and was about to call them down, Nia was already at the table, chowing down.
Zoey shook her head; Nia's lack of manners didn't really scream "rich girl."
When Bella and Sterling came down, they saw Nia already eating. Sterling kept quiet, and Bella didn't feel it was her place to say anything either.
At the table, the three of them ate in silence. Bella thought Nia was scared of Sterling, but she was way off.
Nia suddenly reached over and grabbed the steak Sterling had cut. She said happily, "Thanks, Sterling. You know I'm too lazy to cut steak, and you still do it for me like old times. You're the best."
Ignoring Sterling's darkening expression, Nia started eating like it was no big deal.
Sterling's face turned cold. "Nia, have you no manners? Seems like Xavier's spoiled you so much you've forgotten your place. This was for Bella."
Bella quietly ate her meal. Hearing Sterling mention her, she glanced at him and said calmly, "It's fine, let her have it."
Nia shrugged, "See, Sterling? Bella doesn't mind, so why do you? Why have you changed so much? You weren't like this when we were kids. You said you'd always protect me and that when we grew up, you would..."
Nia paused, then continued, "Forget it, but now you're married."
Sterling glared at Nia, "What does my marriage have to do with you?"
Nia said, "Have you forgotten that when we were kids, you said you would marry me when you grew up while we were playing games?"
Bella's breath hitched as she listened to Nia talk about their childhood. She felt disgusted.
Sterling glanced at Bella, seeing her calm expression as she quietly ate. He said angrily, "Those were just childhood jokes. They don't count now. Xavier should have found you a marriage partner by now. You should hurry up and get married."
Nia thought for a moment, "But the person I want to marry most is you. It's a pity you're married now."
Sterling glared at Nia, "Have some manners. This isn't childhood, and don't be rude."
The meal left Bella with no appetite, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
Bella put down her utensils, "I'm done. You guys take your time."
After saying that, Bella left the dining room with Sunny in her arms. As soon as Bella left, Nia got even bolder.
Nia moved her chair next to Sterling, "Sterling, look at Bella. She's so frail. Can she handle you in bed?"
Her words were suggestive, making Sterling's expression turn icy. He scolded Nia, "Nia, don't talk nonsense. Bella's condition is none of your business. Don't forget, you're just staying here temporarily, not permanently. If you keep this up, I'll call Xavier right now and have him take you back."
Seeing that Sterling was genuinely pissed, Nia had no choice but to zip it.
Bella thought the meal was already awkward enough, but things were about to get worse.
After lunch, Bella sat on the swing in the yard, holding Sunny and petting it. It wasn't long before Nia showed up.
Seeing Bella on the swing, Nia immediately went over and grabbed Sunny, saying, "This cat is so cute, so chubby. It's adorable. Can you give it to me?"
Bella immediately said, "Put it down."
Nia snorted, "You're so stingy. It's just a cat. If I asked Sterling for it, he'd give it to me right away."
Bella sneered, "Then go ahead and ask Sterling. See if he gives it to you."
Nia suddenly laughed, "I know you and Sterling have no feelings for each other. My dad used to say that I would marry Sterling in the future. You're just temporarily holding the title of Sterling's wife. Sterling will definitely be mine in the end."
Bella didn't want to deal with Nia. She had heard enough of this from Debra.
Seeing Bella's indifferent expression, Nia continued, "By the way, how did you and Sterling meet?"
Bella said, "What does it matter to you how we met?"
Nia smiled, "It doesn't matter if you don't tell me. I don't mind."
Bella laughed in anger, "What, do you want to be the mistress?"
Nia shrugged indifferently, "Don't be so harsh. My childhood bond with Sterling is something you can't compare to. It's not your business to tell me what to do."
Bella really didn't have a good impression of Nia and didn't want to stay in the same place with her.
Bella could only take Sunny back to the master bedroom. Not long after, she heard the sound of a car starting downstairs, accompanied by Nia's voice saying, "Sterling, can you take me out for a walk? I just got back to the country and don't have any friends here."
Sterling said, "I'm quite busy lately. If I have time, I'll take you out, but I have a meeting at the company now. Can you go out by yourself?"
Nia thought for a moment and said, "Alright, but can you give me a ride? I want to see your company."
For reasons she couldn't explain, Bella pulled back a corner of the curtain and saw their conversation and Nia getting into Sterling's car.
Bella felt a sharp pang, realizing that her heart could still feel. But this realization was accompanied by a stinging pain.
Maybe it was because Debra had scared her. Now, any woman near Sterling made her feel terrified, anxious, and cold all over. It felt like a beast was watching her from the darkness. The emotional trauma Debra caused Bella was immense.
Whenever Bella saw a woman near Sterling, it evoked a familiar fear, as if she had experienced it all before.
Fortunately, Nia had been staying in the guest room these past few days, and Bella didn't think about those things anymore.
Sterling's concern for Bella made her think he might be feeling guilty, especially since her last major hemorrhage was because of Sterling. So Bella decided to take this opportunity to make a request to Sterling. She didn't know if he would agree.
