Chapter 187 Nothing Happened Between Us
Colin, furious, punched the wall and said, "Sterling, what are you thinking? It's absolutely not what you think. Micah wouldn't do that."
"Even if he was drugged, he wouldn't do that. Besides, both he and Bella were unconscious. Do you really think they could have done anything?"
After a long pause, Sterling finally said, "How do you know they didn't pass out after doing it?"
As soon as he said it, Sterling felt overwhelmed. 'No, it couldn't be like that.'
Colin, hearing this, lost his temper at Sterling for the first time and grabbed him by the collar.
"Sterling, do you know what you're saying? You're not only insulting our years of friendship but also insulting Bella."
Sterling looked up at Colin, "I'm sorry, I..."
Anna pulled Colin away and said coldly, "Can you stop arguing? It's best if Bella is okay. If something happens to her, you're the biggest culprit. You couldn't protect her and now you're pretending to be all sentimental."
Anna's words were directed at Sterling.
Sterling remained silent, letting Anna and Colin scold him. He truly didn't know what expression to make. Anna was right; he hadn't protected Bella.
Colin couldn't stand it anymore. He grabbed the silent Sterling, "Sterling, I know what you're thinking. You saw Bella and your best friend lying on the same bed, so intimately. I know it's hard to accept, but it's not Bella's fault, nor is it Micah's. This is a conspiracy, a plan against you and Micah. Don't you see that?"
Of course, Sterling saw it. He just couldn't accept it right away.
Colin, feeling helpless, let go and fished out a cigarette, only for Anna to snatch it away, "No smoking in the hospital."
Colin felt even more helpless.
Anna crushed the cigarette in her hand, "I don't know which bastard is trying to frame Bella, but if I find out, I'll skin them alive."
Anna looked at Sterling with helplessness. She knew Sterling couldn't accept such a shocking scene right now.
She didn't want to waste her energy; she believed in Bella. Bella would never do such a thing, nor would she betray Sterling.
Colin immediately made a phone call, his tone icy, "Check everyone who attended the event at the Vienna Mansion tonight. Focus on the Hughes family and see what dirty deeds they did on the Rivera family's turf."
The three of them waited in the hallway outside the emergency room.
Not long after, the door opened, and the doctor came out. All three of them looked over simultaneously.
"How is my friend?" Anna asked anxiously.
"They're temporarily okay, just inhaled too much of the aphrodisiac. The man is slightly better, but the woman breathed in two different kinds. Her health wasn't good to begin with, so she's been unconscious for a longer time. You'll have to wait a bit longer," the doctor said, which relieved them but also puzzled Anna.
"Two different kinds? What do you mean?"
The doctor took off his mask and said, "She inhaled two different kinds of the aphrodisiac within an hour. She must have been in two different places, so the damage to her body is quite severe."
Hearing this, Sterling's fingernails dug into his flesh, but he didn't feel the pain. So many people wanted to harm his wife tonight.
After Bella and Micah were moved to the hospital rooms, Micah woke up shortly after.
When Colin explained what had happened, Micah's eyes widened in disbelief, and he immediately sprang up from the bed, "I knew it! I knew they would do this. I was too careless."
Colin immediately pressed him back onto the bed, "Just lie down and rest."
But how could Micah rest? He said anxiously, "Nothing happened between Bella and me. Do you believe me?"
Colin, exhausted from the night's events, still perked up and said, "Of course I believe you. Someone is causing trouble behind the scenes."
Micah's face darkened, "Is it the Hughes family? Did the Hughes family do this?"
Everyone knew it was likely the Hughes family, but they had no concrete evidence.
Colin shook his head, "We're not sure if it's the Hughes family. The Vienna Mansion didn't have surveillance cameras when it was built, so it's hard to determine if it was them."
Micah punched the bed, "It has to be the Hughes family. They're the only ones who hate me. They want to turn Sterling against me, so they set up this plan."
Then he asked, "How's Bella? Is she okay?"
Colin told Micah about Bella's condition, and Micah sighed in relief, "Sterling won't doubt me, right?"
Colin wasn't sure but said firmly, "No, he won't. Given our relationship with Sterling, he can't possibly doubt you. Besides, he wouldn't think there's anything between you and Bella."
Micah felt reassured but still uneasy, "I need to explain this to Sterling myself. It's my fault. I should have anticipated the Hughes family's revenge. I didn't expect Bella to get caught up in this."
Colin pressed Micah back onto the bed, "Just rest. Sterling probably isn't in the mood to hear your explanation right now."
It was already past 3 AM, very quiet, but Micah's heart was still racing with anxiety, unsure of what might happen next.
Anna and Sterling stayed by Bella's bedside until she finally woke up around 5 AM.
Bella first smelled the disinfectant and knew she was in a hospital. She slowly turned her head and saw Anna and Sterling by her bedside, feeling relieved.
'Thank goodness,' she thought, 'I must have been saved.'
As soon as she moved her fingers, Sterling noticed she was awake.
Bella's throat was dry, and she called out, "Sterling."
Her throat felt like it had been scraped with a blade, extremely painful.
Sterling, seeing she was awake, wanted to get her some water but found the water by the bed had already gone cold.
Bella saw Sterling's face, not just exhausted but also cold. The scenes from last night flooded back.
She didn't know how she was saved or what happened after she passed out.
Seeing Sterling's expression, even if he wasn't happy to see her, he would never have such a cold look. Bella's face turned as white as a sheet.
Could something even more terrible have happened?
No, she didn't dare to think about it.
