Chapter 466 Angry
Anna immediately noticed Bella's eyes and rushed over to ask: "Have you been crying? Your eyes are swollen like walnuts! What happened? Did Sterling bully you?"
Hearing Anna mention Sterling, Bella felt another wave of sadness wash over her. She shook her head and forced a smile: "No, it's Sunny. She died."
Anna's face flashed with disbelief. She opened her mouth, seeming to want to say something but not knowing how to start. After a moment, she finally managed to say: "Really? She was fine before, so lively and energetic. How could she suddenly be gone? Don't be too sad. These things, nobody wants to see them happen. Small animals, you know, they have shorter lifespans than us. They'll leave us someday. Try to look on the bright side, don't take it too hard."
Listening to Anna's words, Bella knew Anna was trying to comfort her, but these words felt like salt in her wounds. She said in a muffled voice: "Okay, stop comforting me. I understand all that, but my heart still hurts. I'll be fine in a few days. I need to feel sad for a while. By the way, are you free tonight? Let's go see Micah together."
Hearing this, Anna quickly nodded. She didn't want to say more on this topic either, to avoid upsetting Bella further: "Okay, let's go together after work. It'll be good to see him."
In the morning, Bella was swamped at the dessert shop. Orders kept pouring in, leaving her barely a moment to catch her breath. Finally, at noon, when everyone gathered to have lunch, she had time to take out her phone and check her messages.
On the screen, Sterling's reply caught her eye. It had been sent over an hour ago, just a brief sentence: "It's fine."
Bella stared at these two words, her feelings mixed. She had thought her apology would at least get some response from him, even just a simple "Got it" or "No problem." But she hadn't expected his reply to be so brief, so cold.
Bella didn't know what she had been expecting. She let out a soft sigh, didn't reply to his message, and put her phone aside, slowly picking at her lunch.
But now, she had no appetite. Although the food in front of her looked delicious, she found it tasteless. Her heart was still grieving Sunny's passing and feeling disappointed by Sterling's coldness.
Her colleagues saw her eating absent-mindedly and cast concerned looks her way. Someone asked: "Bella, what's wrong? Don't you like the food?" She forced a smile and shook her head: "Nothing, just a bit tired."
Bella didn't want to spread her emotions to everyone or make them worry about her. So she tried hard to adjust her attitude and appear more energetic. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't hide the exhaustion and disappointment in her eyes.
That evening, after the dessert shop closed, Bella and Anna walked out shoulder to shoulder and hailed a taxi, heading straight to the hospital.
Colin hadn't shown up at the shop all day, which surprised both Bella and Anna.
However, they didn't expect to run into him at the hospital, and Sterling was unexpectedly there too.
Pushing open the hospital room door, a faint smell of disinfectant hit them. In the room, Micah was sitting cross-legged on the bed, munching on an apple Colin had just peeled for him, his face beaming like a flower.
"You guys actually have a conscience! This isn't the first time I've had this problem, it's not that serious." Micah said with a grin while chewing his apple.
"Yeah, I can see you're not that bad off, you're still smiling." Anna said irritably.
Micah laughed even harder: "By the way, that girl you introduced is really great, she's been taking such good care of me." Micah suddenly changed the subject to Serafina.
"I need to give her a raise. Can't let such a good employee down." Micah continued.
Anna said confidently: "Of course, she's someone both Bella and I trust. How could she not be good? I think you'll be out in a few days. Just take care of your 'rich man's disease' from now on and stop eating whatever you want."
Colin gently patted Micah's shoulder, his tone somewhat teasing: "Alright, we'll come see you again tomorrow. I've had a long day, need to get back and rest. You just focus on getting better, and when you're out, we'll go have a good meal together!"
Micah nodded with a smile. At this moment, Anna also stood up casually. She glanced at Bella and said softly: "Bella and I have also had a long day. We're leaving too. Take care of yourself."
With that, she grabbed Bella's arm without further ado, and the two walked toward the door. Micah quickly called out: "You're leaving already? Stay and chat a bit longer!" But Anna just smiled and shook her head, signaling him to rest well.
Seeing this, Colin felt puzzled. He quickly caught up and blocked Anna and Bella's path: "What's wrong? Why do I feel like you're upset with me? Or did I do something wrong to make you unhappy?"
Anna's tone was unfriendly as she looked at Colin: "What were you so busy with today? Too busy to send even a text or make a phone call? Since you're so tired, go back to the hotel and rest. I'm staying at Bella's place tonight, so you won't be in the way."
Colin's expression changed slightly. He quickly looked to Sterling, who was following behind at a leisurely pace, with pleading eyes: "Help me out here!"
Sterling sighed helplessly. He had already noticed Colin's pleading look.
But as a friend, he couldn't just watch Colin struggle. He stepped forward and decisively pulled Bella away from Anna's side, saying: "I'll take her home. You two talk first."
Bella was a bit stunned by Sterling's sudden action, but she quickly came to her senses and obediently followed Sterling outside. She knew that staying there would only make the atmosphere more awkward.
Outside the hospital, night had fallen. The streetlights cast a dim yellow glow, stretching their shadows long. Bella ignored Anna's somewhat teasing shout of "choosing romance over friendship" from behind and resolutely got in the car with Sterling. As the car slowly started, Anna's voice was soon carried away by the night wind and disappeared behind them.
Inside the car, the atmosphere was somewhat delicate. Bella sat in the passenger seat, slightly turning her head to look out the window, trying to hide her inner panic.
Sterling focused on driving, but occasionally catching glimpses of Bella's somewhat uneasy appearance from the corner of his eye, he couldn't help but smile faintly.
