Chapter 61 The Downfallen Powell Family
Anna's face twisted in disgust when she saw Debra.
Anna's mom, Qiana Smith, didn't know Debra and just assumed she was one of Anna's friends, even though this "friend" seemed pretty rude.
"Anna, is this your friend?" Qiana asked.
Anna got up from the bedside, her expression icy. "Friend? No way. She's just a bitch."
Debra couldn't stand being insulted, especially by someone like Anna. If the Powell Family hadn't gone bankrupt, she might've let it slide, but now they were just like any other low-class folks to her.
"And who do you think you are? A broke girl who can't even pay for her dad's surgery? Your dad was so rich, did he ever think he'd end up in a dump like this when he got sick?" Debra sneered.
Qiana was furious. Clutching her chest, she snapped, "I don't care who you are, get out of this room right now, or I'll call security to throw you out."
"You better get lost! Or do you want to experience something worse than having coffee thrown on you?" Anna threatened, lifting a basin of pale yellow liquid.
Debra eyed the liquid warily. "What is that stuff?"
Anna's lips curled into a cold smile. "It's my dad's urine."
Debra's eyes widened in horror as she backed up to the doorframe. "Keep that away from me, damn it! Don't you want to save your dad? I can pay for his medical bills!"
Anna moved closer with the basin, sneering. "I don't need a whore like you to pay for our bills. I know you just want to humiliate me. Our family might be down, but we don't take just any money."
Debra caught a whiff of the urine and screamed, bolting out of the room into the hallway.
"Damn you, you bitch! You'll regret this! You just blew your only chance to save your dad," Debra yelled, pointing at Anna.
Anna glanced at Peter lying in the hospital bed, a flash of pain in her eyes, but she quickly masked it with her cold demeanor. "If my dad wakes up and finds out I got the surgery money by selling my dignity, he'd rather die than let me go through that."
Anna made a pouring gesture, and Debra backed away in fear, only to bump into someone.
"Colin, what are you doing here?" Debra saw Colin behind her and finally showed a hint of relief, thinking he was on her side.
Colin didn't expect to run into Debra here, nor did he expect to see Anna.
Anna hesitated for a moment and then put the basin down. Even though she didn't like Colin, he had saved her once, and she couldn't throw urine on him.
"That bitch wanted to throw urine on me. Damn whore, I was just trying to help her dad," Debra whined, playing the victim as soon as she saw Colin, conveniently leaving out how she provoked Anna.
Colin wasn't buying Debra's crap. He and Micah knew exactly what kind of person she was. If it weren't for Sterling, he wouldn't even bother with her.
"Alright, no fighting in the hospital. You should leave now; I don't want her throwing urine on me," Colin said, leaning against the wall, giving Debra no place to hide.
Debra was pissed but had no choice. She shot Anna a dirty look and quickly ran to the elevator.
Once Debra was gone, Colin walked up to Anna, curious.
"What's going on? What happened to your dad?" Colin asked.
Seeing that Colin knew Debra, Anna felt a wave of disgust. She headed towards the restroom with the basin of urine.
"Just a regular heart condition. Why do you care?" Anna's pace quickened, but Colin's long legs easily kept up.
Colin blocked her path but stepped back when he saw the basin in her hands.
"I heard about your situation, but how come your dad doesn't have money for surgery? Didn't he have insurance?" Colin asked. After all, no one could guarantee their wealth would last forever. Insurance was a safety net.
A look of helplessness crossed Anna's face. "My dad never believed in buying insurance. He thought his wealth would last forever. Clearly, he was wrong."
Colin was taken aback. "Your dad was pretty arrogant."
Realizing he had put his foot in his mouth, Colin quickly apologized. "Sorry, I didn't mean it like that."
Anna closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Enough, I've heard worse these past few days. Your comment is still within acceptable limits. Now, don't block my way."
She walked around Colin and entered the restroom.
Colin watched her go and sighed. As he passed the nurse's station, he asked about Anna's family situation.
"They can't even afford the surgery? Damn, was her dad a miser? Earning all that money and not willing to pay a little insurance fee?" Colin muttered as he headed to the doctor's office.
After learning the cost of Peter's treatment from the attending physician, Colin immediately offered to donate.
"This money is for Peter's treatment, but if anyone asks, just say it was an anonymous donation from a kind person. Don't mention me," Colin instructed after paying.
The attending physician agreed. With that, Colin left the hospital.
