Chapter 212 The Child That Cannot Be Kept
Now, Sterling didn't want to hide anything anymore. He said, "Bella, take good care of yourself. Once you're better, I'll tell you everything."
Bella didn't move, just closed her eyes.
She didn't really want to listen, but the pain of losing her child again made her hatred grow, and she didn't know who to direct it at, so she could only think of the real culprit behind this incident.
Bella finally focused on Sterling. Seeing his pale face, she immediately realized he was also injured and had probably stayed up all night.
Thinking about what Sterling said, he must be full of concern for her now.
Bella, feeling sorry for him, said, "How are you? Are you okay now? You should rest well. I'm fine now."
Sterling knew Bella was feeling terrible and just said, "Bella, I'm sorry. It's my fault you got involved and that you and the baby had to suffer because of me."
Bella's lips quivered, and she felt like crying, but her eyes were too dry to shed any tears.
Whether it was the company's car or the family car, if something happened to him, she would be in unbearable pain either way.
In that situation, if Sterling had been in the car, he would have chosen to jump out, but at such high speed, jumping out would have been a near-death experience.
Bella couldn't recall the scene; it was terrifying. In that moment of life and death, all she could think of was Sterling.
In the next room, Colin had also been watching over Anna all night. He had memorized every visible injury on her body.
Now, looking closely at the scratch on her brow, he still felt a pang of fear.
Anna pushed Colin away. "Why are you so close? Are you checking if I'm disfigured? Sorry, I'm still as beautiful as ever."
Colin ignored her playful attitude.
When the call suddenly ended in the heavy rain yesterday, he could only hear Anna's scream through the phone, and his heart almost stopped.
Colin suddenly pulled her into his arms, his eyes filled with unprecedented tenderness.
He brushed Anna's hair aside and looked closely at her wound, his throat tightening, and his voice strained. "Does it hurt?"
Anna shook her head uncomfortably in his arms. "No, it's just a small injury. I'm not that delicate."
Colin ruffled her hair. "Silly girl, of course it hurts."
Anna was stunned for a moment. Seeing herself reflected in his bright eyes, her heart started to race.
The moment felt too intimate, and she wanted to pull away, but Colin held her tightly.
Suddenly, Anna remembered something and started crying.
Colin was startled and quickly let go of her, asking nervously, "What's wrong? Did I touch your wound?"
Anna shook her head, then raised her slender wrist, tears streaming down her face.
"My bracelet fell off in the car when I was pulling Bella out. It must have turned to ashes by now. I didn't mean to."
Anna felt inexplicably sad because she really liked that bracelet.
Seeing her cry so sadly, Colin's heart ached. He pulled her back into his arms. "It's just a bracelet. I'll buy you a hundred tomorrow."
A bracelet was nothing compared to her.
"You don't understand. I got that bracelet in exchange for drinking. It was quite expensive," Anna sobbed.
Colin suddenly laughed silently. "Silly."
Colin then kissed her forehead. Anna was so easy to deceive. She believed everything he said.
What assistant would get such an expensive gift just for drinking in his place?
He remembered when Amy drank so much for him that she ended up in the hospital with a bleeding stomach, and he only gave her a compensation fee.
Only she would believe that the bracelet was earned by drinking.
Anna's eyes widened, and she pushed Colin away, forgetting to cry. "What are you doing, Colin?"
Colin restrained his urge to pull her back into his arms and said, "Nothing, just thought you were a hero this time and wanted to reward you."
Anna looked at him. "You're crazy. Your reward is a kiss? Pervert, shameless."
Seeing her lively spirit return, Colin felt a weight lift off his heart. As long as she was okay, a few insults didn't matter.
Colin smiled and said, "Anna, you were very brave and smart this time. Without you, Bella and Owen wouldn't have survived."
"So, I've decided the company should reward such an excellent and brave employee. What do you want?"
Anna blushed at his praise. "Really? Was I really that amazing and useful this time?"
Colin nodded seriously. "I've always thought you were very useful."
Colin's eyes softened with a barely noticeable tenderness. "I always speak based on facts."
Anna was happy again. "Then I have to think carefully and extort a lot from you."
Then, knowing that Bella had woken up, Anna finally felt at ease.
Colin didn't dare tell Anna the truth behind the car accident, fearing she couldn't handle it.
Bella stayed in the hospital for a few days, and Sterling was also recovering in her room.
His presence filled the space, and the air was full of sunshine. She closed her eyes, and the gloom and fear seemed to dissipate, like waking from a nightmare.
Sterling's injuries had mostly healed. His wounds had scabbed over, and only his dislocated chest still had a bandage.
At ten in the morning.
Bella looked at him, thinking about their previous arguments, which now seemed unimportant.
She smiled, the room filled with sunlight, and Sterling sat by her bed.
Sterling talked about what happened two months ago with Micah. He said, "Bella, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so stubborn. I should have trusted you more."
Bella lay in bed, still pale. She shook her head. "Sterling, I've been regretting going to find you that rainy day."
"If I hadn't, none of this would have happened, and maybe the baby would still be here. When will the baby come to find me?" Bella said, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Sterling looked at Bella, lost in thought. She didn't see the flash of pain in his eyes as he remembered what the doctor had told him.
"Mrs. Windsor had severe bleeding from a previous miscarriage, and her uterus was badly damaged. The uterine wall is thin, and this pregnancy was too much for her. She might have miscarried naturally later on."
Sterling, holding back his grief, asked, "You mean, even without the car accident, the baby wouldn't have survived, right?"
