Chapter 239 Feed Me

Anna's face went pale, her hands clenched tightly. "Are you saying someone from the Powell family stole the jewelry materials? Do you have any proof?"

"I don't have any hard evidence, but I just know. Your dad told me he kept those materials in a super secret spot, and he was the only one who knew about it. No one else had a clue."

"So, who could've taken them? At first, I didn't think much of it, but later, it hit me—if only your dad knew the location, then it had to be someone from the Powell family."

Anna was stunned that after all this time, someone was still bringing up the Powell family's bankruptcy. She quickly asked, "Do you know who it was?"

Lorenzo replied, "I don't know who it was, but I'm telling you what I know. It's the least I can do for my friend."

Anna didn't feel grateful for Lorenzo revealing the truth about the Powell family's bankruptcy. She remembered the demands he had made of her back then, and she couldn't muster any gratitude.

"Thanks, Mr. Ross. I get it."

Anna said flatly and turned to leave.

As soon as Anna left, Ryan appeared. "You better keep this to yourself. If we find out you told anyone else, the Ross family will disappear from Harborvale."

Lorenzo nodded quickly. "Got it, got it. I won't say a word."

Ryan glanced in the direction Anna had gone and then left as well.

Sterling had arranged for someone to leak the truth about the Powell family's bankruptcy to Anna, hoping she would investigate and uncover the truth herself, thus breaking Caleb's plan.

If Anna discovered the truth on her own, it might take longer, but they would guide her step by step. The uncertainty lay in whether Anna would continue to investigate.

As long as they planted the seed of doubt in Anna's mind, it would be enough.

Ryan left the hospital and had the surveillance footage deleted. Caleb was meticulous, and if he suspected Anna later, it would expose them.

They had to be very careful, leaving no trace for Caleb to find. They also needed to protect Anna's safety.

In Sterling's office at Windsor Group, Colin and Sterling sat on opposite ends of the sofa.

"Are you sure about this? Letting Anna discover the truth herself—won't she be in danger? If she exposes herself to Caleb, won't he retaliate against her?" Colin voiced his concerns.

Sterling reassured him. "Don't worry. Once the seed of doubt is planted in Anna's mind, Caleb will be the one most afraid of being exposed. The more he tries to hide the truth, the easier it will be for us to catch him. We just need to guide Anna to uncover the Powell family's bankruptcy step by step, and Caleb will be forced to confront us."

Colin had known about Caleb's threats against Sterling for a while. When Sterling suggested using Anna to deal with Caleb, Colin was uneasy, but it was the best plan.

Bella's photos and Beck's letter were in Caleb's possession, while they held secrets about Caleb.

Colin sighed. "You and Caleb are balancing each other out. He has your weakness, and you have information he fears."

As Sterling's friend, Colin couldn't say anything more.

Sterling didn't respond, but Colin was conflicted and confused. He couldn't tell Anna the truth because Caleb could reveal Bella's photos and letter at any time. He couldn't let Sterling's life fall apart, so he was stuck.

Sterling saw Colin's thoughts and patted his shoulder. "Trust me, things will work out. Believe in Anna. She's not easily fooled."

Colin nodded. He didn't want Anna to be deceived, but he also didn't want Sterling to be caught in a dilemma. Caleb's cunning ways with Anna worried him.

After all, Caleb and Anna had a beautiful past together, something Colin could never deny or compete with.

What position did he have to protect Anna now?

In the hospital, Anna set the food on the table. Bella watched coldly, and Caleb, whether intentionally or to embarrass Bella, immediately started whining to Anna. "Anna, don't leave me. My hand is useless right now. Can you feed me?"

Anna frowned, and Caleb quickly added, "It really hurts. Can you bear to let me eat alone? I haven't eaten since yesterday."

Caleb's whining left Anna helpless, reminding her of the familiar feeling from the past.

Seeing Anna's silence, Caleb asked again, "Please?"

Anna couldn't resist Caleb's whining. She knew she shouldn't give in.

But Caleb continued, "Do you want me to starve? My hand really can't move. Please feed me."

Anna's face stiffened, and Bella clenched her fists. "Caleb, don't push it."

Bella tried to stop him, but Caleb grinned. "How am I pushing it? My hand really can't move."

Bella offered, "I can call a nurse."

Caleb dismissed the idea. "Nurses are clumsy. I've already sent them away."

Bella insisted, "Caleb."

Anna saw they were about to argue and interrupted, "Enough, I'll feed you."

"Bella, his hand was injured because of me. It's only right that I help him," Anna said helplessly.

Bella raised her voice in frustration. "Anna, don't let him fool you."

Anna looked at Caleb and smiled. "It's fine. It's just feeding him. I often feed stray cats and dogs. I'm experienced."

Caleb didn't mind Anna's words and continued smiling as she set the food on the small table by the bed.

Anna picked up the spoon and fed him bite by bite. As she lowered her head to scoop the food, Caleb suddenly looked up and gave Bella a triumphant, cunning smile.

Bella's face turned livid. Caleb was always scheming, and Anna always fell for his act.

Anna's heart didn't stir much; she was still thinking about what Lorenzo had said.

Was there really a hidden truth behind the Powell family's bankruptcy? She had never paid much attention before, but now it seemed there were significant gaps.

Thinking back to that time, her father was always smiling, never worried about the jewelry materials being stolen.

The incident had caught their family off guard, and now it seemed there was more to the story.
