Chapter 232 Absent-minded
Anna said, "I have no idea what these people are up to tonight. The whole party feels strange. I even saw Caleb just now."
As soon as Bella heard Anna mention Caleb, she immediately got nervous. "What did Caleb say?"
Anna looked at Bella with amusement. "Why are you so nervous? He didn't say anything to me. It's always the same stuff. I'm tired of hearing it."
Bella knew that Anna must never find out about Caleb's background, or she might not be able to handle it. She also couldn't let Anna and Caleb have any contact.
Bella asked seriously, "Do you really have no feelings for Caleb anymore?" Bella's question suddenly made Anna fall silent for some reason.
Seeing Anna's silence, Bella got anxious. "You're not still thinking about Caleb, are you? Anna, don't be foolish."
Anna smiled and said, "I know."
Although Anna said she knew, she couldn't help but think about what Caleb had said, and her mind was in turmoil.
Now Caleb was a rising star in the business world, someone she could no longer reach. She had to admit that Caleb had done very well after leaving her.
Anna shook her head. "Forget it, let's not talk about him."
Seeing that Anna didn't want to talk about it, Bella didn't push her, but she was extremely worried about her.
Bella and Anna didn't chat for long before Sterling called Bella away. Anna thought Sterling must have taken Bella to socialize.
Anna wandered around the banquet hall out of boredom.
Suddenly, she felt a hand on her waist. Lorenzo leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Miss Powell, have you thought about it? I can give you the information you want."
Anna felt a wave of disgust and instinctively slapped Lorenzo's face.
Lorenzo covered his face, glaring angrily. "Anna, you bitch, how dare you hit me?"
Anna retorted, "Bastard, you dared to grab my waist. Hitting you is already lenient."
Lorenzo leaned in and cursed under his breath, "Anna, you're no longer the heir to the Powell family. You're here to find a rich man, aren't you? What, you don't like me? Isn't it money you want?"
Anna found his words even more nauseating and felt the urge to slap him again.
Anna turned to leave, but Lorenzo, having been slapped, wasn't willing to let her go. He grabbed her.
Anna held back. "You asked for it."
With that, she raised her hand and slapped Lorenzo on the other side of his face with all her strength. The room fell silent, and everyone turned to look.
From a distance, Colin saw what happened. His face darkened, and he walked over. "What's going on?"
Anna's hand hurt from the slap, and she didn't want to say anything. She just glared at Lorenzo.
Seeing Colin's concern for Anna, Lorenzo's eyes flickered, and he immediately put on a smile.
"Mr. Rivera, it's a misunderstanding. I didn't know Anna was with you. I was just joking with her. Sorry for the disturbance."
Lorenzo tried to leave, but Anna didn't want to let him off. Her eyes turned cold. "A joke? Weren't you the one who just suggested a one-night stand?"
Colin's face grew even darker. "Lorenzo, right? It seems your family is looking for trouble again."
Lorenzo was terrified and regretted his impulsive actions. "Mr. Rivera, I'm sorry. I didn't know Anna was your woman. I was wrong." Lorenzo slapped himself a few times.
Colin snorted. "You should apologize to her, not me."
Lorenzo immediately turned to Anna. "Miss Powell, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I'm willing to compensate you."
Colin looked at Anna. "What do you think?"
Anna snorted heavily. "I find his money dirty."
Colin turned to Lorenzo, his tone cold. "Did you hear that? The door is over there. Get out."
Lorenzo's body trembled, his face pale. He had no choice but to leave the banquet hall quickly.
From a distance, Caleb had intended to step in for Anna, but Colin beat him to it.
Seeing Colin's attitude towards Anna, Caleb, as a fellow man, immediately understood the depth of Colin's feelings.
Anna felt embarrassed by the crowd's attention, especially since she was here with Colin and had just hit someone.
Anna said, "I don't want to stay here anymore. How much longer will you be?"
Colin gently touched her hair. "Ten more minutes. Wait for me, it won't be long."
Anna nodded and said, "Don't touch my hair. I just had it styled tonight."
Colin smiled indulgently and then pinched her cheek. "Wait a few more minutes, and I'll take you home."
Caleb, watching from a distance, clenched his fists as he saw Colin and Anna's intimate interaction.
Bella had met many people with Sterling tonight, but she felt that Sterling was distracted.
Bella quietly tugged on Sterling's sleeve. "What's wrong? Is something bothering you?"
Sterling smiled. "Nothing."
But Sterling's demeanor clearly showed something was wrong. Bella immediately said sternly, "Don't hide anything from me."
Sterling reassured Bella. "I wouldn't hide anything from you."
But Bella still felt uneasy.
Sure enough, Sterling soon walked away from her, instructing Ryan and the bodyguards to stay with her.
Bella looked at Ryan and squinted. "Tell me, is Sterling hiding something from me?"
Ryan smiled. "Mrs. Windsor, I really don't know. Please don't ask me."
Bella knew she wouldn't get anything out of Ryan, so she let it go. She wandered around the banquet hall, wanting to find Sterling.
But she couldn't shake off Ryan. Finally, Bella said, "I need to go to the restroom. You don't need to follow me."
Ryan said, "Okay."
Bella went to the restroom and saw Ryan smiling at her from a distance. She smiled back and then walked into the restroom.
Ryan knew Bella's intentions, so as soon as she was out of sight, he followed her.
Bella knew Ryan wouldn't trust her easily, so she lingered in the restroom for a long time. Finally, she exchanged her shawl with a lady who came in.
Using the shawl to cover her face, Bella successfully avoided Ryan's sight.
When Ryan waited too long without seeing Bella, he realized she had slipped away again.
