Chapter 235 Going to Part-Time Job Again
Caleb was always on the lookout for any chance to connect with the Windsor family's relatives, so Sterling had people keeping a close watch. If Caleb managed to team up with someone from the Windsor family, Sterling would be in serious trouble.
Sterling pieced everything together and realized Caleb had been plotting this for a long time.
Starting three years ago, Caleb had systematically approached Anna and Bella, using James and the Hughes family to exact his revenge.
And now, Caleb had the nerve to threaten him.
Sterling was in a foul mood that night and didn't say much. Bella wisely chose to give him space.
Colin spent the evening mingling with various influential figures, but his eyes never strayed far from Anna and Caleb.
Colin had seen Caleb talking to Anna earlier. Though he was too far away to hear their conversation, he could guess it was just Caleb trying to pester Anna.
Colin wanted to gauge Caleb's attitude toward Anna, and tonight he confirmed it. However, he still wasn't sure about Anna's feelings toward Caleb.
So, when he dropped Anna off at her apartment, he asked, "Is Caleb bothering you?"
Anna looked at him in surprise. "You know?"
Colin was annoyed. "He was so obvious at the party. It was hard not to notice."
Anna really didn't want to talk about Caleb anymore. She replied, "Let's not talk about him. He made his own bed. Do you think I should agree to anything?"
Anna opened the door and got out of the car. For the first time, Colin didn't call her back.
Colin lit a cigarette in the car, thinking about the documents Sterling had shown him.
The documents clearly stated that Caleb had teamed up with someone to steal the Powell family's jewelry materials. Before the materials were sold, Caleb had killed his partner and disposed of the body.
Those missing jewelry materials ended up in Caleb's hands. He sold them abroad, then used the money to establish a drug trafficking network within a year. This kind of business was the quickest way to make money.
Meanwhile, the Powell family fell into crisis due to the loss of the jewelry materials and eventually went bankrupt. Caleb took the stolen money and continued his criminal activities abroad.
Colin took a deep drag on his cigarette.
Anna had been with Caleb for three years, and the Powell family had spent money to train him abroad. Who would have thought Caleb would sneak back and have the nerve to continue bothering Anna?
Colin wondered if Anna could see through Caleb's schemes.
Given Anna's personality, if she found out the truth about the Powell family's bankruptcy, she would probably be devastated.
The next day, Anna showed up at work with dark circles under her eyes. Colin noticed immediately and said, "Anna, did you stay up late doing something bad again?"
Anna ignored him, but Colin continued, "Do you want to take on tonight's side job?"
"What is it?" Anna asked weakly.
Colin grinned. "A hundred thousand dollars for one job. Are you in?"
Anna and Gia were chatting away, laughing like old friends. This time, Anna felt completely at ease and didn't have any of her usual nerves around Gia.
Colin watched the two women, thinking they looked more like mother and daughter than anything else.
It was strange seeing how well Anna and Gia got along, while he, Gia's actual son, felt like an outsider.
Out of the blue, Gia said, "Anna, this is your second time at our house, right? Why don't you stay over tonight? It's late, and you can keep me company. Colin hasn't stayed here in a while, so you both can stay and keep me company."
Anna's smile faltered. "I don't think that's a good idea, Mrs. Rivera. I should go home."
She remembered the last time she stayed over, and it had left her with a psychological scar.
Gia sounded disappointed. "Why? Is it because your mom won't let you?"
Anna quickly said, "Yes, my mom doesn't allow me to stay out overnight."
Gia's face lit up. "No problem, I'll call your mom and tell her you're staying here."
Anna panicked. If Gia called Qiana, it would be a disaster.
"I... I'll call my mom myself."
Gia smiled. "Then tomorrow I'll invite your mom to go shopping. I'll buy you some bags and clothes, okay?"
Anna awkwardly nodded, and Gia walked away, happily holding her poodle.
Anna was stunned.
Once Gia was out of sight, she kicked Colin's leg. "Are you crazy? Why didn't you say anything when your mom asked me to stay? Are you trying to embarrass me?"
Colin shrugged. "You were talking the whole time. I couldn't get a word in."
Colin's nonchalant attitude made Anna furious. She lunged at him, hitting him. "You did this on purpose! What am I supposed to do tonight? Do I really have to stay here?"
Colin let her hit him until he grabbed her wrists and pulled her close. He spoke in a teasing tone, "Relax, my room is big enough for both of us. We've shared a bed before, just sleeping, nothing else. Is that okay?"
Anna's face flushed, and she jumped away from him. "No way! I'll sleep on the bed, and you sleep on the floor. Or I'll sleep on the floor, and you take the bed. We can't sleep together."
Anna was still traumatized from the last time. She feared waking up to another woman confronting her.
Colin didn't push her. He knew she was scared from the previous incident. He soothed her, "Alright, alright. I won't force you. You sleep on the bed, and I'll take the couch."
Anna had no choice but to agree.
While Colin was finding clothes for her, Anna wandered around his room.
She noticed Colin seemed to love sports. His bedside table and cabinets were filled with photos of him playing sports and pictures from his school days.
He looked much younger and more innocent in those photos, with a pure smile. She couldn't help but laugh, realizing Colin had this side to him.
After a long time, Colin still hadn't returned, so Anna decided to take a shower.
Halfway through, she heard someone knocking on the door. She quickly wrapped herself in a towel and saw Colin tossing clothes inside.
Anna picked up the nightgown, feeling her body heat up. Why was it a black silk slip dress with lace trim?
