Chapter 68 Another Bad News
Someone once said that real life was like a bad TV drama. Misunderstandings between the main characters always seemed to happen at the worst possible times.
Screenwriters knew exactly how to hit the protagonists where it hurt when they were most vulnerable, just to make the audience feel for them.
Anna felt like she was living in one of those TV dramas right now. She didn't want Caleb to get the wrong idea about her and Colin, so she quickly walked up to him.
"Don't misunderstand. My dad passed away, and I was really upset. I just instinctively hugged him and cried," Anna explained to Caleb.
Caleb just nodded, not saying a word.
"Do you not believe me?" Anna's swollen eyes stared blankly at him.
"Whether I believe you or not doesn't matter because I came to see you today for another reason." Caleb's words made Anna's heart sink.
"I've been thinking about this for a long time, but I never knew how to say it," Caleb continued, confirming Anna's worst fears.
"So you're planning to break up with me on the day my dad died?" Anna asked, her voice trembling.
Caleb didn't say anything; he just nodded.
Colin, seeing Caleb arrive, guessed the relationship between Caleb and Anna. He was about to step forward to clear things up, but after hearing Caleb's words, anger surged through him.
"The money your family helped me with to go abroad, and the money you've lent me over the years, I'll pay it all back. I hope you and your mom can still live well after Mr. Powell's death." Caleb had just finished speaking when Colin punched him hard in the face.
Caleb was knocked to the ground. Colin pointed at him and angrily shouted, "If you were a real man, you wouldn't tell her this today. She hasn't even gotten over her dad's death, and you hurt her again."
Caleb wasn't angry about being hit. He got up and said coldly, "This had to be said sooner or later. I've had enough."
"What do you mean by 'had enough'? Am I the one making you suffer?" Anna clenched her fists and demanded.
Caleb looked at Anna and said, "Have you always suspected that I was with you for your family's money, to use your dad's connections to get ahead? Well, you're right. Your dad is dead, and your family has nothing left to offer me, so I'm breaking up with you."
"You jerk, what do you take her for?" Colin grew even more furious. He clenched his fists and was about to charge at Caleb, but Anna held him back.
Colin looked at Anna, confused.
"Enough, let him go." Anna shook her head and turned to leave.
Colin gave Caleb one last glare and followed Anna.
After walking for a while, Anna noticed Colin was still following her. Confused, she asked, "Why are you still following me?"
Colin rolled his eyes and joked, "Of course, I'm worried that after hearing two pieces of bad news in a row, you might not be able to handle it and do something drastic!"
"Don't jinx me. I still want to live! If I die, who's gonna take care of my mom?" Anna shot Colin a look.
"I kinda saw this coming, but I didn't think he'd break up with me today of all days." Anna sighed.
Colin could tell Anna wasn't too torn up about it, and he started to feel a bit better.
"Anna! I've been looking everywhere for you. Why are you here?" Bella came running over.
Micah was right behind her.
Seeing Bella, Anna finally broke down. She hugged Bella tightly and started crying again.
"Bella, my dad passed away, and that jerk Caleb broke up with me today. Now it's just you and my mom." Anna sobbed in Bella's arms.
"How could he do that today? Good riddance to that jerk Caleb." Bella was fuming.
Colin walked over and pulled Micah aside. "Let's give them some space. I'll wait nearby until they're done crying."
Micah nodded and left with Colin, giving Bella and Anna some privacy.
"Alright, Anna, stop crying. You have me, your mom, and you're about to become an aunt. How about being my baby's godmother?" Bella tried to cheer Anna up with her pregnancy news.
Anna stopped crying and looked at Bella in shock. "You're pregnant? Is it Sterling's or James's?"
Bella glared at Anna. "What do you think of me? Even if Sterling and I have issues, I'd never cheat on him."
"You're my best friend! Thanks for telling me. I'm gonna be a godmother! But will Sterling be okay with it?" Anna asked, confused.
Bella was silent for a moment, then shook her head. "Sterling doesn't know I'm pregnant."
Anna was stunned. Bella then shared her plans.
Anna looked at Bella seriously. "Oh my God, what are you thinking? When you're three months along, your belly will start to show. Sterling's not blind. How long do you think you can hide it?"
Bella fell silent. She hadn't figured out a better plan yet. She had to think it through in the next two months.
"I'll figure it out. But I need you to keep it a secret. Once Sterling knows, he'll keep a close watch on me, and I don't want to live like that." Bella pleaded with her eyes.
Anna nodded, deciding to keep Bella's secret.
After some more casual conversation, Bella and Anna went to the funeral home.
Anna had Peter's body cremated that day.
By the time everything was done, it was nighttime. Bella was taken to the Windsor Villa by Micah. But as soon as she walked in, she saw Debra again.
