Chapter 73 Caleb's Request

Bella knew that Sterling must have misunderstood her again.

"Forget it, I'm not explaining. Otherwise, I'll have to spill the beans about being pregnant," Bella sighed, flopping onto the bed.

She finally got how tough it was to keep her pregnancy under wraps. If she kept pushing Sterling away, things would only get worse between them. The blow-up would hurt her even before the baby arrived, and it'd be even worse if it affected the baby.

"What am I gonna do?" Bella muttered, scratching her head in frustration.

The next day at work, Bella was totally out of it, lost in her thoughts.

"What's on your mind? Daydreaming again?" Micah asked, stopping by her desk with a curious look.

"I had a nightmare last night and didn't sleep well," Bella lied, forcing an awkward smile.

"If you didn't sleep well, just go home and rest. Call it a sick day. If you get too worn out here, Sterling might come and tear my company apart," Micah joked.

Bella was about to refuse, but then she remembered Anna was moving today. Anna had turned down her help because of the pregnancy, but now Bella had a chance to go see her.

"Thanks, I actually have something to do today, so I'll take you up on that," Bella said, grabbing her bag and heading out.

Micah smiled and was about to head back to his office when he noticed the other employees looking enviously at Bella.

Micah rolled his eyes and said, "Alright, everyone, back to work. If your partners are also people I can't afford to piss off, I'll give you time off too."

The colleagues sighed and got back to work. If they had such powerful partners, they probably wouldn't need to work here at all.

Micah chuckled and went back to his office.

When Bella got downstairs, it had started to rain. Without an umbrella, she had to call a cab.

Just as she was about to hail one, a car pulled up. Caleb got out, holding an umbrella.

"Hey, Bella," Caleb greeted her, but Bella wasn't in the mood for pleasantries.

"What do you want? You and Anna are done. Are you here to ask me to convince her to take you back?" Bella asked coldly.

Caleb's expression was complicated as he shook his head. "You got it wrong. I have something I hope you can give to Anna."

He pulled out a bank card and handed it to Bella. "This is the money Anna's dad has been giving me over the years, plus some gifts she gave me. I don't think she'd want those gifts back, so I sold them. The card's password is her birthday."

Bella took the card without hesitation. She knew Anna was in desperate need of money. This wouldn't solve all their problems, but it could help Anna and Qiana live a bit better.

Seeing Bella accept the card, Caleb sighed in relief and asked, "Where are you headed? Can I give you a ride?"

Bella shook her head to refuse, but then she felt a sharp pain in her stomach.

Seeing her wince, Caleb asked urgently, "What's wrong? Should I take you to the hospital?"

Bella shook her head and instinctively said, "It's nothing, just a normal pregnancy thing."

"You're pregnant? Whose is it?" Caleb asked, surprised.

Bella shot him a glare. "Of course, it's Sterling's. Do you think I'm someone with a chaotic personal life?"

Caleb scratched his head awkwardly. Just then, another car pulled up, and Colin got out.

Seeing Colin, Caleb's expression turned uneasy.

"If you don't want to ride with me, I'll leave now." With that, Caleb turned and left without glancing at Colin.

Colin watched Caleb leave and frowned. He walked over to Bella and asked, "What did that guy want?"

Bella waved the bank card in her hand. "He broke up with Anna and was too embarrassed to return the money in person, so he asked me to do it. By the way, what are you doing here?"

Colin pointed upstairs. "I came to ask your boss out."

Bella rolled her eyes. Micah always used the excuse of meeting clients to leave work early, but he was actually just going out to have fun with Colin.

Micah, as the boss, had such an easy job that it made people jealous.

"Don't ask Micah out. I can't get a cab, so you can take me to see Anna," Bella said, hopping into Colin's car before he could respond.

Colin opened his mouth but then smiled wryly and shook his head. "Alright, looks like I'm playing chauffeur today."

Colin got in the car and started it.

In the office, Micah looked at his watch and grumbled, "Didn't we agree to go bowling? Why isn't Colin here yet?"

Bella and Colin arrived at Anna's new apartment, which was much cheaper than her previous one.

As they were about to go upstairs, a drink bottle fell from above.

"The security here is terrible. Someone just threw something from above," Colin said, looking up in annoyance.

"Stop it! Let go of my mother!" Anna's scream came from upstairs.

"Something's wrong, Anna's in trouble," Bella said, then she and Colin rushed upstairs.

The apartment building was cheap and had no elevator. Bella quickly became out of breath and could only watch as Colin took the stairs three at a time.

"Why are you more anxious than I am?" Bella said, holding onto the railing and slowly making her way up.

Inside Anna's new apartment, the living room floor was littered with debris. Qiana was hiding behind Anna, her hair and clothes disheveled, her face filled with fear.

"Paying off debts is only right and proper. If you're willing to repay your mother's debt, I have no objections. If you're not willing, then I'll have to take her away," a tattooed thug said, glaring at Anna.

Anna clenched her fists, her face filled with anger but her heart heavy with bitterness. She didn't have that much money.
