Chapter 83 Car Accident
James was all choked up. He finally let out what he really felt. He didn't want to carry the weight of all those responsibilities; he just wanted to chase after his own love and freedom.
Bella just stared at him quietly.
James looked back at Bella, like he was waiting for her to say something.
The room was dead silent.
"I'm pregnant," Bella said, her voice full of bitterness.
James felt like his world just crumbled.
"You're pregnant? With Sterling's kid? When did this happen?" He jumped up from his chair, totally shocked.
What James and Bella didn't know was that someone was listening in at the door.
Debra, who hadn't gotten any help from Sterling, was super upset and thought about asking Micah for help.
But while grabbing coffee at a nearby café, she accidentally saw James and Bella.
Debra had planned to snap a pic of James and Bella going into the coffee shop and send it to Sterling. But as she listened at the door, she heard Bella's bombshell.
"Bella's pregnant! That means I have no shot with Sterling? No way, I can't let her have that baby!" Debra's face twisted with jealousy.
Inside, Bella looked pretty bitter. "I've been pregnant for over two months. Didn't you notice I've put on some weight?"
James stared at Bella and after a bit, asked, "Does Sterling know?"
Bella shook her head. "I don't want Sterling to know I'm pregnant, or he'll use the baby to keep controlling me."
James kept staring at her. "But you can't hide this forever."
Bella gave a sad smile. "So when you suggested we run away, I was tempted. I might still run away, but not with you."
James clenched his fists, hating himself for being so useless. If he'd run away with Bella three years ago, things might've been different.
"Alright, let's wrap this up. I need to get back to work." Bella smiled, grabbed her handbag, and left the room.
James followed her out of the coffee shop.
Bella stopped, turned around, and smiled. "I can tell Amara actually likes you. You don't need to waste your time on me. Don't let her down."
Then she walked towards her office, leaving James standing there in silence.
Just then, a loud engine roar came from down the street as Bella was about to cross.
A car came speeding towards her.
"Watch out!" James's eyes went wide as he ran towards Bella.
But in Bella's terrified eyes, she only saw Debra's face twisted with jealousy. Then she was hit, thrown into the air, and everything went dark.
"My baby..." Bella reached for her belly in her last moment of consciousness, feeling a life slipping away.
Debra felt a twisted sense of satisfaction after hitting Bella, but it quickly turned into sheer terror.
She saw the blood pooling around Bella while James frantically called for help, holding her limp body.
Debra's hands shook as she restarted the car and sped away from the scene.
When she got home, she was trembling uncontrollably.
Dash and Mira immediately noticed something was off.
"Debra, what's wrong? Why are you so freaked out?" Mira asked, frowning.
Just then, the family driver rushed in, looking panicked. "Miss Foster, why is there so much blood on the car's front? What did you do?"
Dash and Mira felt a wave of panic wash over them.
Mira grabbed Debra and demanded, "Did you hit someone? What happened? Tell me!"
Debra, shaking, whispered, "I killed Bella and her unborn child."
Mira felt dizzy, her body shaking violently. She slapped Debra hard across the face.
"You maniac!" She slapped her again.
Debra didn't fight back, just sat on the sofa, dazed, covering her face and crying.
Dash was panicking too. Even though he despised Sterling, he knew Sterling's revenge would be brutal.
"Debra, tell me everything," Dash urged.
Debra recounted how she saw Bella at the coffee shop.
After hearing her story, Dash's eyes narrowed. "So, Bella didn't tell Sterling about the pregnancy?"
Debra nodded, still in shock.
Dash suddenly slapped his thigh. "This is our only shot! We need to get to the hospital. Whether Bella's dead or alive, we need to get that baby out! Then we'll spread the word that the baby is James's! If Sterling believes it and doesn't get a chance to test the DNA, he won't have a reason to come after us!"
Mira lunged at him, tearing at his clothes in fury. "You're a monster! Bella was nearly killed, and you want to ruin her reputation even more!" she screamed.
Dash, feeling the pain, pushed Mira away angrily.
Debra clung to Mira's legs, crying, "Mom, please, we have to do this. It's my only chance. I don't want to go to jail. I'm your daughter too. I know I messed up!"
Mira's body shook as she pushed Debra away and slowly crawled upstairs. She had made her choice.
"Dad, does this mean Mom agrees? If we follow your plan, I won't have to go to jail?" Debra looked at Dash, desperate for reassurance.
Dash tried to comfort her. "This plan alone isn't enough. People must have seen our car hit Bella. We need a backup plan."
He turned his gaze to the family driver.
