Chapter 309 Reluctant Sunny
Bella hoped that in the days to come, without the protection of the Windsor family, she could bravely face all challenges and difficulties, and live the life she wanted.
The Windsor family, Zoey, Owen, and her beloved cat, Sunny, would always be her most cherished memories.
As soon as Zoey saw Bella, her eyes welled up with tears. She tightly grasped Bella's hand, as if afraid that if she let go, Bella would disappear.
"Bella, are you really leaving? I can't stop worrying about you. These days you've been gone, I've felt so uneasy. Mr. Windsor often sits alone, not moving all night. He's not doing well either."
Zoey's voice was choked with emotion, full of reluctance to part with Bella and concern for Sterling.
Bella held back her tears, not wanting Zoey to see her vulnerable side. She tried to keep her eyes wide open, wanting to clearly remember this person who had left such a warm mark on her life.
She gently comforted, "It's okay, Zoey. I'll be fine, you don't need to worry about me. He'll be fine too. We shouldn't have been entangled from the start. Let's not talk about this. I came back to see you, Owen, and Sunny, and to pack up my things, leaving behind what doesn't belong to me."
Bella's words made Zoey's heart ache even more. She knew Bella was forcing a smile, but there was nothing she could do to change the situation.
She could only silently wipe her tears and accompany Bella, watching her pack, silently praying that Bella would have a smooth and safe future.
While packing downstairs, Bella often paused to touch the items that had once accompanied her. Each one carried her memories and emotions. She gently placed them back, as if saying goodbye.
Finally, she walked to Sunny's bed, looking at the adorable cat, her heart filled with reluctance.
"Sunny, I'm leaving. Be good and listen to Zoey, don't be naughty," Bella said softly, gently stroking its head.
Sunny seemed to sense Bella's emotions, rubbing against her hand as if responding to her farewell.
"This little guy is quite mischievous, but since you left, it's been sticking to Mr. Windsor," Owen said with a bittersweet smile, feeling the pain of the family becoming incomplete.
Bella never asked about Sterling. She understood that she was about to embark on a new journey, leaving the past behind. So she just smiled faintly, not responding to Owen's comment.
After a brief chat, Bella went to the master bedroom.
As she opened the door, her eyes fell on the items still in their original places. Each one carried her memories and emotions, taking her back to the time spent with Sterling.
The room was filled with Sterling's scent, a familiar yet strange aroma. It made Bella feel inexplicably sad, as if the sweetness and happiness of the past had turned into illusions.
Bella stood quietly in the room, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath, trying to bury these emotions deep in her heart.
Bella knew she had to leave, and Sterling would forever be a memory, an untouchable past.
She silently told herself to be strong, brave, and to let go of the past to embrace a new life.
While packing, Sunny followed her in, seemingly interested in the open suitcase.
Sunny found the soft clothes inside very comfortable and kept trying to burrow in, as if looking for a warm haven.
Bella helplessly pulled it out countless times, trying to stop its mischievous behavior. But Sunny seemed undeterred, sneaking back in shortly after each time.
This made Bella both amused and exasperated. She picked Sunny up, looking into its innocent eyes, and asked, "What are you doing? Want to come with me? But I can't take you in the suitcase, you'd suffocate."
Sunny seemed to understand Bella's words, meowing twice and rubbing its head against her cheek, expressing its reluctance and attachment.
Bella gently stroked Sunny's fur, her heart filled with reluctance. She knew she was about to start a new journey, and Sunny needed to stay here and continue its life.
Although she wanted to take Sunny with her, reason told her it wouldn't be good for Sunny. She wasn't confident she could take care of it during her upcoming travels.
"Maybe staying here is better for you, so you don't have to travel around with me," Bella said softly, her voice carrying a mix of determination and helplessness. For Sunny's well-being, she couldn't take it with her.
Bella's mood grew heavy, but she knew this was a reality she had to face. She silently told herself to be strong, brave, and to believe that Sunny would be fine here.
Sunny seemed to understand Bella's words, gently freeing itself from her arms and running off to play. Its carefree demeanor lightened Bella's mood a bit.
Bella continued packing, leaving behind the card Sterling had given her, thinking she might return it to him someday.
After finishing, she double-checked to make sure she hadn't missed anything.
By chance, Bella noticed a picture frame turned face down on the nightstand.
She clearly remembered there hadn't been any picture frames there before, so Sterling must have placed it after she left. This stirred a mix of curiosity and emotion in her heart.
Bella gently picked up the frame, hesitated, and then turned it over. Inside was a photo of them, taken by Micah during their time at Oakridge, watching the sunrise. They were embracing, smiling brightly, as if all worries had vanished.
For a moment, Bella felt transported back to that happy time, a warm feeling washing over her.
However, reality was harsh. She knew there was no future for her and Sterling. This photo could only be a memory. She sighed softly and placed the frame back.
Bella couldn't help but glance at the photo again, memories flooding her mind. She remembered trying to love Sterling, to feel the potential love between them.
But now, everything had changed. She and Sterling had reached the end, and this photo was their only link, a testament to that beautiful time.
