Chapter 177 Beck's Death
Anna gritted her teeth in anger and said, "Beck dared to lie to us last time. What is he hiding? Didn't he say he was dying? Why would he rather die than tell us? What is he trying to protect?"
Bella had already thought about this question: "I don't know. He would rather die than tell us. Is he taking this secret to the grave?"
Anna said seriously, "Then it seems the matter is very serious. Tomorrow, we need to find Beck again. We must know what he's hiding."
When they returned to the dining table, they found that Sterling and the other two were already drunk.
Bella was speechless and had Ryan carry Sterling to the car. She didn't bother with Anna because Sterling wouldn't let her get out of the car to find Anna.
Bella, feeling helpless, sent Anna a message to take a cab home.
Micah was also picked up by a driver, leaving only Anna and Colin. Feeling awkward, Anna said, "You've had too much to drink. Let me call a cab for you."
Colin said, "No need, my driver will be here soon."
Anna nodded, "Alright, then wait here for your driver. I'm leaving."
Colin suddenly said, "Can't you wait with me?"
Anna felt awkward. Hearing Colin's unclear tone, she knew he was quite drunk. She sighed and said, "I'll get you a glass of water."
When she brought the water, she saw Colin lying on the table, staring blankly at the neon lights outside. She didn't know what he was thinking. She placed the water on the table.
Anna then sat on a chair not far away, quietly waiting with him for the driver. Neither of them spoke, lost in their own thoughts.
Bella found out Beck's address that night, so she was in a very good mood.
As soon as they got home, Sterling pinned her to the bed. Not only did she not resist, but she also became increasingly enthusiastic, which made Sterling extremely excited.
Sterling didn't expect Bella to be like this when she took the initiative. When it was over, Bella didn't dare to look at him, shyly burying her face in Sterling's chest. She was secretly delighted.
Before falling asleep, Bella thought about her current state with Sterling. It felt like they were a married couple, in love, and like family.
This realization made her very happy, but sometimes she felt these days were fleeting, like a dream. She feared that one day the dream Sterling had woven would be shattered.
Bella thought that if the dream were shattered, she couldn't accept it. She and Sterling never talked about the past anymore, and she didn't know what Sterling thought.
So sometimes Bella deceived herself, thinking this was good enough. They didn't talk about the past and focused on the future, which was also good.
But sometimes she was sentimental. She felt these beautiful days were like stolen moments, fearing that one day, if overdrawn, the dream would be shattered.
Thinking about this, Bella unknowingly fell asleep. In her dream, she saw Lucas again.
In the morning, she found her pillow wet, but fortunately, Sterling had already gone to work.
Bella and Anna had arranged to find Beck, so they didn't delay. They both took the day off and went together.
Beck's new address was in a very rundown place, worse than the last place they found him.
But when they knocked on the door, they found only a woman there. Bella asked first, "Hello, we're looking for Beck."
The middle-aged woman, about fifty years old, wearing an apron, with a weathered face, Anna also asked, "Is Beck here?"
The middle-aged woman wiped her hands on her apron, her eyes cloudy and her tone low, "Mr. Garcia passed away half a month ago."
Bella and Anna thought they had misheard. Bella reacted, "What? Passed away?"
Anna couldn't believe it either. After all their investigation, he was dead?
Seeing Bella's state was off, Anna frowned, sighed, and patted Bella to comfort her, "We'll get to the bottom of this."
Bella stood dazed at the door, not knowing what expression to make.
It was like suddenly discovering she had won $5 million in the lottery, only to find the ticket shredded in the washing machine.
Anna held Bella and carefully asked the middle-aged woman, "Beck is dead, who are you? Why are you here?"
The middle-aged woman seemed very uneasy, facing Bella and Anna, she was very nervous, wringing her hands before suddenly realizing, "Mr. Garcia was a good man. I worked as his maid for over a month. He was very generous. He asked me to wait here for a girl. Is it you?"
Bella and Anna exchanged puzzled looks. Bella responded, "Beck asked you to wait for us? For what?"
The middle-aged woman immediately ran towards the bedroom, returning shortly with a letter, which she handed to Bella, "Mr. Garcia asked me to give this to you. I don't know if you are the ones he asked me to wait for, but I think you are."
Bella and Anna opened the letter immediately. It was Beck's handwriting, but only a few words.
[When you read this letter, I should have already passed away. I'm sorry about your father. I can't say anything. I have things I want to protect, but just remember, your father was a good man.]
The letter was short, but Bella read it dozens of times, feeling utterly devastated.
"What is this? I don't want these vague words." Bella suddenly broke down, tearing at the envelope.
Anna hugged her tightly, "Bella, calm down. Don't lose hope. There will be a way."
But Bella didn't believe it. She broke free from Anna's embrace, grabbed the middle-aged woman's arm, and almost screamed, "Did he say anything before he died? I don't believe it. I don't believe it!"
The middle-aged woman was frightened by Bella's sudden outburst, retreating repeatedly.
Anna quickly pulled Bella back and apologized, "I'm sorry, she's very emotional right now. I'll take her away."
Anna had a hard time calming Bella down. She knew Bella was still struggling to accept it, but the fact was the trail had gone cold.
"Bella, trust me, there will be a way. If worse comes to worst, we'll ask Sterling for help," Anna said, suggesting the last resort.
