Chapter 69 The Unstable Emotions of a Pregnant Woman
Bella felt like today was just not her day, bumping into Debra twice.
"Bella, you're back! I've been waiting forever," Debra chirped, putting on her sweet little sister act.
Bella didn't need a crystal ball to know Sterling was in the villa.
"If you've waited this long, keep waiting. And don't talk to me with that expression, it disgusts me," Bella snapped, shoving Debra aside as she walked in.
To her surprise, not just Debra, but Mira was there too.
Mira awkwardly stood up from the sofa when he saw her. "Bella, you're back."
Bella shot a glance at Mira, then at Sterling, who was sitting there with a blank face. She didn't say a word and headed straight upstairs.
"Sterling, look at Bella, she's so rude," Debra whined, clinging to Sterling's arm.
Bella had just reached the second floor when she heard Debra's voice again.
"Bella was out all day. Who knows what she was up to? Maybe she was seeing another man," Debra speculated nastily.
Bella's voice rang out from the second floor. "I went to see your father. I asked him why he had a daughter like you. He didn't answer; maybe he's ashamed his daughter is someone else's mistress."
Debra's face turned beet red.
The servants in the villa looked up in shock, and Zoey even gave Bella a thumbs-up.
Sterling looked up at Bella, surprised. How had he never noticed her sharp tongue before?
Bella was a bit taken aback by her own boldness but chalked it up to her pregnancy.
Since getting pregnant, Bella had read up on how to protect her baby. The books said pregnant women could be super emotional, and it was important for the husband to help keep them happy for the baby's sake.
Bella had spent the whole day helping Anna with her dad's cremation arrangements and was exhausted. She fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed.
When she woke up, it was already dinner time, and Zoey had come to get her.
"Mrs. Windsor, come down for dinner. Mr. Windsor said he needs you to accompany him for a transaction with Ms. Morris," Zoey gently reminded her that Debra and Mira were still there.
"I'm not feeling well, so I'm skipping dinner with them. Bring my meal up here," Bella told Zoey.
She really didn't want to see Mira and especially Debra, who made her skin crawl.
Zoey nodded and went downstairs to inform Sterling.
Sterling slammed his utensils on the table. "Tell her to stop faking it and get down here for dinner."
Zoey tried to stick up for Bella. "Mr. Windsor, Mrs. Windsor does look a bit pale; she might really be unwell."
"I told you to get her down here," Sterling barked, giving Zoey no room to argue.
Mira tried to step in. "Let it go. If Bella's not feeling well, let Zoey bring her meal up."
"Mom, you're wrong. Bella's not sick; she just doesn't want to see us. She's so rude," Debra sneered.
"Shut up!" Mira snapped at Debra.
"Zoey, I said get her down here. What are you waiting for?" Sterling ordered, his voice rising.
Zoey sighed and was about to head upstairs when Bella appeared.
"No need, Zoey. I'm coming down," Bella said, her eyes cold as she stared at Sterling.
Sterling resumed eating, and Bella took her seat.
But Debra wouldn't let it go. "Bella, Sterling's taken care of you for years. You should be grateful. After all, he's been good to you, even though your father killed his family. Isn't that right?" Debra said, twisting the knife.
"Enough, Debra. Can't you keep your mouth shut while eating?" Mira snapped, looking like she wanted to slap her.
Debra's mention of the past not only hurt Bella but also reminded Sterling of his deceased parents and Mira of abandoning Bella.
"Sorry, Mr. Windsor. Debra had a bit to drink and isn't herself. Please forgive her," Mira said awkwardly.
Sterling stayed silent, his eyes fixed on Bella.
Debra's words had lit a fire in Bella. "If you don't shut up, I'll tell the media tomorrow that you were someone's mistress. Even if you take my place, you'll never escape that," Bella said coldly.
Debra's face turned pale, and she looked to Sterling for support.
"I'm full. Ms. Morris, let's discuss work in my study later," Sterling said, standing up and heading upstairs.
After Sterling left, Debra dropped her act and glared at Bella. "I don't get you. You know he doesn't love you anymore, yet you still cling to him. Don't you have any self-respect?"
"I have more self-respect than being someone's mistress," Bella shot back.
"You bitch, do you have to bring that up?" Debra slammed the table, standing up.
"You're just a tool he uses to annoy me. Do you really think he likes you? Stop dreaming. Play your role well, and maybe he'll throw you some scraps," Bella said with a cold smile, then headed to her bedroom.
Debra, furious, was about to charge at Bella but was held back by Mira.
Debra glared at Mira. "Didn't you hear what she said? She called me a bitch! Are you going to keep siding with her?"
