Chapter 48 Contraceptive Pills
Bella wasn't about to cross Sterling. She grabbed the clothes and ducked into the bathroom to change. When she came out, Sterling was already packed and waiting by the door.
Sterling noticed Bella walking kinda funny. He frowned, deep in thought.
Back at the Windsor Villa, Sterling headed straight to his room to shower.
Bella found Zoey and asked, "When did Sterling get back?"
Zoey looked puzzled. "Mr. Windsor came back today."
Bella quickly figured Micah must've spilled the beans to Sterling. She shouldn't have told Micah about quitting so soon.
Even though Bella was cursing Micah in her head, she still worried about Sterling's health. She asked Zoey to get some cold medicine ready and to keep the meals light for a while.
Zoey nodded but looked at Bella, puzzled. "Mrs. Windsor, you seem different, but I can't quite figure out why."
Bella suddenly remembered her wild night with Sterling. Her face turned bright red.
She bolted upstairs like she was running from something.
Zoey watched Bella's odd walk and seemed to get it, a knowing smile spreading across her face.
Back in her room, Bella heard the water running, feeling uneasy. It was snowing outside, making her feel sleepy.
Bella crashed on the bed and quickly dozed off. When she woke up, it was pitch dark outside.
She got up, stretched, and headed downstairs, bumping into Zoey.
Zoey came over and asked, "Mrs. Windsor, you hungry? What do you want to eat? Mr. Windsor went out, not sure if he'll be back tonight. He left after getting a call from some woman."
Bella tensed up but quickly played it cool. "It's fine, I'll just have something simple. Don't worry about him."
Zoey got anxious. "Mrs. Windsor, you're the lady of the house. Why are you always so meek?"
Bella gave a bitter smile. "Zoey, I don't love Sterling. I just want him to divorce me and let me be free."
Zoey sighed and shook her head, thinking Bella was just venting.
A few days later, Sterling finally came home.
Bella had set up an art studio in an empty room upstairs and spent her days there.
She heard familiar footsteps outside the door and knew Sterling was back. But she didn't go out to greet him.
The studio door suddenly opened, and Zoey whispered, "Mrs. Windsor, Mr. Windsor is looking for you. He's in the room."
Bella nodded but didn't rush to see Sterling. She still had paint on her, looking a bit messy.
Knowing Sterling hated mess, she decided to clean up and change clothes before seeing him to avoid any drama.
After changing, Bella took a deep breath and pushed open the bedroom door.
Sterling stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring at the snowy scene outside. His perfectly tailored light gray suit made him look sharp, even from the back.
"There's a fashion show at my company tonight at six, featuring your designs. Up to you if you wanna go," Sterling said, sounding like he couldn't care less.
Bella was caught off guard. She didn't expect Sterling to call her for this, but the thought of seeing her designs on the runway got her pumped. She nodded and accepted.
Suddenly, Sterling coughed a couple of times.
Bella, without thinking, said, "Is your cold still hanging around? Don't forget to take your meds."
Sterling turned to her, eyes dripping with sarcasm. "Don't think just 'cause we hooked up, it means anything. It was a one-time thing; no guarantee you'll get pregnant."
Bella felt a stab in her chest. His words lit a fire in her. "I took a morning-after pill, so don't worry about it."
She saw the anger flash in Sterling's eyes, probably 'cause she talked back.
Not wanting to keep fighting, Bella checked the time. "I'll go get ready. We shouldn't be late."
An hour later, Bella stood in front of Sterling again.
He glanced at her but didn't say a word.
Bella's style was always low-key. She wore light blue skinny jeans that showed off her long legs, a beige turtleneck, a matching coat, and short boots. Her waist-length hair hung straight down.
Her light makeup brightened her already stunning features. The cherry-colored lip gloss added a touch of allure, making her look like an innocent girl with a hint of sparkle.
In the car, Bella and Sterling didn't say a word. Ryan, the driver, could tell they'd probably had another spat.
At the venue, as soon as they sat down, Debra's voice cut through the air. "Sterling, you promised I could sit next to you."
Sterling turned to Bella. "Bella, go sit in the back."
Bella glanced at him, ignoring Debra's smug look. She got up and found a seat further away, not even glancing back. She just wanted to focus on the show.
Debra was rocking a black strappy leather dress, a light gray short coat, and black boots, flaunting her figure. Her makeup was the opposite of Bella's subtlety. She leaned against Sterling like a kitten. "Sterling, you're so good to me. Aren't you worried Bella will get mad?"
Sterling frowned and gently pushed Debra's head away. "There are a lot of people here. Be careful. I don't want to be photographed by reporters."
"Got it." Debra looked a bit disappointed. She actually hoped the reporters would catch them, giving her a chance.
Fifteen minutes later, the show kicked off, showcasing the spring fashion trends. The models' tall figures perfectly showed off the clothes. Bella had to admit, Sterling had a good eye. The latest designs looked way better than the initial sketches.
Bella didn't know Sterling had been watching her the whole time.
When he turned to look at her, he was a bit annoyed because Bella was genuinely focused on the fashion show.
