Chapter 392 Owen's Might

The court summons was delivered on Bella's behalf. Since Debra and Dash were digging their own graves, she decided to help them along. She planned to file the lawsuit that afternoon, hoping to give Anna peace of mind so she could return without any worries.

Dash and Debra had barely sat down when the doorbell rang again. Dash's heart skipped a beat. He frowned, got up, and peered through the peephole, but it was pitch black outside, and he couldn't see anything.

This sense of being watched made him uneasy. He wasn't sure who was outside or what their intentions were.

Lowering his voice, Dash asked with a mix of caution and aggression, "Who is it this time?" His voice echoed down the silent hallway, as if trying to gauge the reaction of the person outside.

There was a pause before a cold, mechanical male voice responded, "Your apartment has an electrical issue. I'm here to fix it."

Dash felt even more uneasy. He knew the building's management wasn't strict, and maintenance workers usually didn't come this late without prior notice. He suspected it was a trap or someone testing them.

Stalling for time, he said, "Maintenance? I didn't get any notice from management. Hold on, let me call and check."

Pretending to dial his phone, Dash didn't actually make a call. As he faked the conversation, he quietly grabbed a baseball bat and hid it behind him, ready to use it if the person outside forced their way in.

The man outside seemed to sense Dash's wariness. After a moment of silence, he said, "Maybe management forgot to notify you, but the electrical issue needs to be fixed quickly to avoid any hazards."

Suddenly, the apartment was plunged into darkness. Debra screamed in fright, clutching the armrest of her chair, her voice trembling with fear. "Dad, let him in! Something's really wrong, it's too dark!"

Dash remained calm, convinced that something wasn't right. He remembered clearly that the lights were working fine before the man knocked. It was too much of a coincidence that the lights went out just as the man mentioned an electrical issue.

Raising his voice, Dash said, "The electrical panel is outside, next to the building. You need to get the key from the security downstairs. It's locked, I can't help you!" As he spoke, he moved quietly to the door, ready for any sudden developments.

The man outside seemed to sense Dash's hesitation. He spoke again, sounding a bit exasperated, "I have the key. I've already checked, it's not the external panel, it's an internal issue. If you don't trust me, I'll leave, and you can get someone to fix it tomorrow."

Dash was torn. He feared it was a trap but also worried that ignoring the issue could lead to bigger problems. In the darkness, he hesitated for a long time before deciding to take the risk.

Slowly, Dash walked to the door, hand on the doorknob, taking a deep breath. Just as he was about to turn the knob, the door was forcefully pushed open from the outside, knocking him off balance and sending him crashing to the floor.

Several burly men rushed in, moving swiftly and efficiently. In the darkness, they quickly located Dash and Debra, pinning them down on the couch.

Dash struggled to get up, but the men outnumbered him and were too strong. He couldn't fight back.

Debra was crying hysterically, clinging to Dash's shirt, her voice filled with terror and despair. "Dad, what do we do? Who are they?"

Dash was filled with anger and helplessness. He knew they were in serious trouble. Trying to comfort Debra, he said, "Don't be afraid, Debra. I'll protect you." But his voice sounded weak in the darkness.

The men didn't immediately harm them. Instead, they waited silently, as if expecting something. Dash guessed that these men were following orders from someone else, the real enemy behind the scenes.

He tried to probe them with words, "Who are you? Why are you doing this? What did we do to offend you?"

But they didn't answer, just stared at him coldly. Dash realized that talking was useless. He needed to find a way to save himself and Debra.

He scanned the room, looking for an escape route. But the men seemed to anticipate his moves, watching his every action closely, giving him no chance.

Suddenly, the lights came back on, illuminating the room. Dash and Debra could now see the burly men and the figure standing behind them—Owen.

Debra recognized him immediately, the Windsor family's butler.

Debra's face turned pale, and she lowered her head, avoiding Owen's gaze. She remembered Mira's warning and felt a deep sense of regret.

Mira had been right. Bella was indeed backed by Sterling, and their greed and shortsightedness had led them into this mess.

Dash also realized the gravity of the situation. Trying to stay calm, he looked at Owen, hoping to glean some information from his expression. "Owen, what is the meaning of this? Why did you bring these men into our home?"

Owen's face was stern, his voice cold. "Mr. Foster, Ms. Foster, you know very well what you've done. Our Mrs. Windsor is part of the Windsor family, and you dared to target her. That's incredibly bold."

Dash's heart sank. He hadn't expected his actions to be discovered so quickly, and for them to confront him directly.

Trying to maintain his composure, Dash said, "Even if you're with the Windsor family, aren't you afraid of legal consequences for doing this? I don't want to escalate things. Let's talk this out. You're scaring my daughter..."

Owen's lips curled into a cold smile. He walked to the window, pulled back the curtain, letting the moonlight flood the room. Then he turned back, his gaze piercing. "Mr. Foster, do you think you're in any position to negotiate with us now?"
