Chapter 72 Another Misunderstanding
When Zoey came downstairs with the first aid kit, Bella walked up to her.
"Zoey, what happened to Sterling's face?" Bella asked, looking confused.
Zoey shook her head, worry etched on her face. She whispered, "Mr. Windsor said he fell, but it looks more like someone hit him."
"Someone hit him?" Bella was shocked. Who would dare to hit Sterling?
Bella was about to head upstairs to ask Sterling, but Zoey stopped her. "Mrs. Windsor, you probably shouldn't go up. If Mr. Windsor doesn't want to talk about it, we shouldn't push."
Bella paused, then nodded. She couldn't help but feel worried.
Zoey smiled at Bella. "Mrs. Windsor, it seems like you still care about Mr. Windsor. I knew it; there's something between you two. Any conflict can be resolved by talking it out."
"Zoey, put the first aid kit back. It's almost lunchtime." Bella shook her head with a wry smile, dodging Zoey's comment, and then sat back down on the sofa.
Bella didn't think her concern for Sterling came from love; it felt more like a bond formed over the years.
While Zoey was cooking, Bella's phone suddenly rang. It was Anna.
"Bella, Sterling's secretary just called. I don't have to repay the money my dad owes Sterling anymore. Did you ask Sterling for this? That jerk didn't make any unreasonable demands of you, did he?" Anna sounded worried.
Bella was surprised. Sterling hadn't asked her for anything, and she didn't know he had forgiven Anna's family's debt.
"He didn't do anything to me. But this is good news; at least your family's burden will be lighter," Bella said with a smile, genuinely happy about Sterling's decision.
However, Anna didn't believe Bella. She thought Bella was just trying to comfort her by not mentioning Sterling's demands.
"Tell Sterling that our Powell Family may be down now, but we don't need his pity. We'll repay the debt in the future!" Anna's voice was serious, showing her determination.
Bella knew Anna's actions were out of concern for her. She smiled and nodded, not refusing Anna's request.
After hanging up, Bella didn't pass Anna's message to Sterling.
Even though Peter was gone, he had left behind a large debt, not just to Sterling but to others as well.
Now, without Sterling's debt, Anna's family would at least have a lighter load.
Bella felt she needed to thank Sterling.
She walked upstairs to the study, where Sterling was sitting in a chair reading.
"Thank you, Sterling. Thank you for forgiving the Powell Family's debt," Bella said, expressing her gratitude.
Sterling's eyes stayed on the book. He said coldly, "It's no big deal. I don't want the media saying I'm bullying two women. Plus, it helps my image."
Bella pursed her lips. She had thought Sterling did it for her, but now it seemed his reasoning made sense from his perspective. Trading a bit of money for a good reputation was totally his style.
Sterling glanced at the silent Bella, noticing her slightly disappointed expression. His heart tightened.
'Damn it, did my words just hurt her?' Sterling felt a bit anxious inside, but his expression didn't change.
"Regardless of the reason, thank you," Bella said to Sterling and then turned to go downstairs.
Sterling clenched his fist tightly. Bella's polite behavior made him feel very uncomfortable, like she was treating him like a stranger.
It wasn't until dinner time that Sterling came downstairs. Zoey had prepared a feast.
"Mr. Windsor, Mrs. Windsor specifically instructed me to make these dishes for you. She said you've been very tired lately, and these are good for your health." Zoey greeted him with a smile.
Bella glanced at Zoey, feeling a bit helpless. She hadn't said any of that to Zoey.
Because of her pregnancy, Bella couldn't eat certain foods, so she had specifically told Zoey to prepare dishes she could eat. Zoey had mistakenly thought Bella had prepared them for Sterling.
Sterling glanced at Bella, who was sitting at the dining table, and began to enjoy the meal.
Bella ignored Sterling, focusing on the food on the table. Since becoming pregnant, her appetite had increased significantly.
Sterling was a bit surprised to see Bella continuously stuffing food into her mouth. He remembered she used to eat more gracefully.
Zoey, standing behind Sterling, kept giving Bella meaningful looks, trying to get her to serve Sterling to show her wifely tenderness.
However, Bella was feeling extremely hungry at the moment and completely ignored Zoey.
Fortunately, Sterling didn't mind. He even pushed a bowl of soup towards Bella.
The smell of the soup made Bella gag. Since becoming pregnant, she couldn't stand anything with a fishy smell.
"Zoey, don't make this kind of soup anymore," Sterling said calmly.
Zoey nodded and thought to herself, 'Mrs. Windsor's reaction really seems like she's pregnant. But why did Mr. Windsor say she's not?' Zoey was very puzzled.
At night, Bella and Sterling lay in bed.
Suddenly, Bella felt Sterling move closer, trying to take off her clothes.
Bella was startled. She was still in the early stages of pregnancy, and having sex now could easily lead to a miscarriage.
"Wait, I'm not feeling well lately. Can we wait a while?" Bella pleaded softly, holding onto her nightgown tightly, not giving Sterling a chance to take it off.
Bella could feel Sterling's heavy breathing, mixed with anger.
"Is it because of James again? You only want to give your body to him, don't you?" Sterling thought back to his encounter with James today.
Feeling irritated, Sterling jumped out of bed and headed to the guest room.
