Chapter 290 Despair

Debra's smug expression froze the moment she saw Anna's face, and then it vanished completely.

Debra frantically shoved the men surrounding Anna aside and screamed, "You idiots grabbed the wrong person! I spent so much money, and this is how you do your job?"

The men exchanged confused glances and stopped tearing at Anna's clothes.

Debra's demeanor shifted abruptly, her tone turning cold and ruthless. "Forget it, this one will do. None of them are any good. Finish this job, then go get Bella for me!"

Anna's hair and clothes were disheveled, tears glistening in her eyes as she glared at Debra, her voice filled with venom.

"Debra, I won't let you get away with this! I won't let you get away with this!"

Debra sneered at her and pulled out her phone, dialing a number. "These idiots grabbed the wrong person. They didn't get Bella; they got Bella's friend."

A man's voice came through the phone, deliberately lowered but still betraying a hint of panic. "Which friend?"

Debra answered truthfully, "Anna. She was unlucky enough to wear the same outfit as Bella in the photo you gave me. These idiots couldn't tell the difference."

"Don't touch her! I'm on my way!" The man practically shouted before hanging up.

Debra felt confused, not understanding why the order to stop had come so suddenly. But she was no longer in control of the situation.

She looked at the men, who were itching to act, and waved them off. "Hold on, don't touch this woman yet."

One of the men grinned lecherously, trying to persuade her. "We've already taken our pants off, and now you're telling us this?"

Debra recalled the man's tone on the phone, hesitated for a couple of seconds, then firmly shook her head. "No, hold it in."

Debra had been waiting for a chance to get back at Bella, and finally, the man had given her an opportunity. But these idiots had grabbed the wrong person, ruining everything.

Half an hour later, the sound of a car pulling up outside the house was heard, and it stopped very close. The small house trembled slightly.

Anna, lying on the floor, could feel it all. She didn't know what these people would do to her.

Despite her inner strength, she couldn't hold on any longer, wishing she could just die.

Urgent footsteps approached, rushing into the house. In the dim light, surrounded by moths, a man's tall figure blocked part of the light. Anna couldn't see his face.

But she had spent three years with him; how could she not recognize him? If she had any remaining resolve, it vanished at that moment.

It was Caleb.

The man who had schemed to get close to her, causing her family's bankruptcy, her father's early death, and now putting her in this dire situation.

She had thought Debra was behind it all, but Debra's family had also gone bankrupt, and she couldn't afford to pay anyone. The real mastermind was Caleb!

Caleb had returned to Harborvale.

With a loud slap, Debra stared at Caleb in shock. "Why did you hit me?"

Another slap followed, Caleb's chest heaving with anger.

Debra didn't dare speak again. Caleb demanded in a low voice, "What did you do to her?"

Debra's eyes flickered, and she answered softly, "It wasn't me. We didn't get a chance to do anything. But the photo you gave wasn't clear enough, and they couldn't see Bella's face properly, so they grabbed the wrong person."

Caleb's tone grew colder. "So you're blaming me? Debra, don't say I didn't give you a chance; you just didn't seize it."

He turned to the men, who were trembling with fear. "Do whatever you want with this woman."

The men exchanged glances and quickly agreed, dragging Debra into the next room. Her screams were soon muffled.

Anna watched Caleb approach her, instinctively trying to move away.

She wasn't afraid of him seeing her in this state; she was simply terrified of the man she had once loved deeply, who now seemed so unfamiliar and frightening.

"Anna." Caleb's hand froze in mid-air, his expression complex, filled with regret and pain.

Anna let out a cold laugh, her voice tinged with sarcasm. "Don't call me that. It makes me sick! Are you satisfied now? I know everything. This was all your doing. You never loved me; you only love yourself! My dad funded your three years abroad, and even though you paid him back, how can you be so heartless? If you have any conscience left, let me go!"

Caleb took off his jacket and gently wrapped it around her, as if it could bring her some warmth. "I'm sorry. I didn't expect things to turn out this way. I wanted revenge on Sterling; my target was Bella, not you! Why did you wear Bella's clothes? Why?"

Anna's tears silently streamed down her face, but her smile was cold to the bone. "I'm glad I wore Bella's clothes. If it were her, she wouldn't have survived this torment. She would have taken her own life. Caleb, stop pretending. Let me go!"

Caleb remained silent, slowly standing up and walking over to the still-running video camera, taking it down.

Anna's emotions erupted as she witnessed this. The camera had recorded everything she had gone through.

Although the men hadn't succeeded, she couldn't forget them tearing at her clothes, their hands touching her skin. She felt nauseous.

"Give me that! Give it to me!" But Caleb ignored her frantic pleas.

She couldn't predict what Caleb would do next; his madness exceeded her imagination.

Caleb took the camera into the next room, where the commotion had finally died down.

Caleb's gaze fell on the battered Debra, devoid of any pity. He waved the men out of the room.

Then, Caleb held the camera in front of Debra, his tone indifferent. "I recorded everything. You won't be getting this back easily."
