Chapter 397 His Big Order

Bella's heart was pounding with fear and confusion, unsure of what was going to happen next.

Time seemed to stand still. She had no idea how long she'd been standing there when suddenly, a warm, strong hand snatched the key from her trembling fingers. The hand moved with skill and precision, inserting the key into the lock and gently turning it to open her front door.

Bella's heart was in her throat. She thought she was about to be dragged inside, and she couldn't bear to imagine what might come next. But to her surprise, the person behind her did nothing to make her feel threatened.

He just stood there quietly, like he was only helping her open the door, without any bad intentions.

Bella's body was still frozen, but she could feel her heartbeat racing and her breathing getting faster. She tried to gather the courage to turn around and see who it was, but the fear in her heart felt like a heavy stone, keeping her from moving.

Outside, the sound of footsteps gradually faded away, each step echoing in Bella's tense nerves, first dull, then loud, as if deliberately telling her that he had left and she was safe.

Bella's heartbeat slowly returned to normal, and she realized that the person hadn't done anything to harm her. But why had he followed her home? This question lingered in her mind.

With trembling hands, Bella turned on the lights inside her house. The light instantly chased away the darkness and illuminated her fear.

It was then that she noticed a key lying quietly on the floor by the door, the one she had forgotten to remove from the lock. Bella was momentarily stunned, then understood that the person had been helping her by handing the key inside.

Downstairs, Sterling stood quietly, his gaze piercing through the night, landing on the light still shining in Bella's room. That warm glow seemed to have a magical power, making his emotions complex and subtle.

Sterling had intended to walk her home, creating an opportunity for them to be alone, hoping to resolve the tension between them and maybe mend their relationship.

However, to his surprise, Bella hadn't even dared to look back, mistaking him for a stalker and trembling with fear. Seeing her terrified expression, Sterling felt a mix of emotions.

Several times, he wanted to call out to her, to let her know it was him following her, but she ran too fast for him to catch up.

He had hesitated about whether to keep following her home, knowing it could easily be misunderstood. But the thought of her walking alone on the dark streets, potentially facing real danger, made him decide to silently protect her until she was safely home.

Now, seeing the light in Bella's room gradually go out, Sterling knew she had gone to bed.

A sense of inexplicable loss welled up in Sterling's heart, but he also felt a bit of relief. At least he was sure she was safe now, which allowed him to relax a little.

As he turned to leave, Sterling's steps felt particularly heavy.

Sterling understood that the gap between him and Bella wasn't going to be easily bridged.

The night remained deep and silent, and Sterling's shadow stretched long under the moonlight, carrying endless thoughts and expectations. He knew the road ahead was long, but he was ready to wait patiently and sincerely for Bella.

The next day, Bella walked into the store a little after ten. Her eyes were slightly red, and dark circles were clearly visible, showing she hadn't slept well.

Her colleagues noticed and gave her concerned looks. Everyone had enjoyed the party last night, but their spirits were generally low today. Compared to the others, Bella's condition was noticeably worse.

Isadora, half-jokingly, teased, "What's up? Couldn't sleep because your best friend left?" Her tone was playful, but her eyes were full of concern.

Bella smiled faintly, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. "Yeah, something like that. Anna's probably on the plane with Colin by now. She didn't want me to see her off, so I stayed home to avoid making a scene at the airport."

Isadora understood and gently patted Bella's shoulder, comforting her. "Don't be too sad. Even though Anna's gone, your friendship will always be there. And you should start thinking about your own future. You can't stay stuck in the past forever."

Bella nodded, grateful for Isadora's support.

Isadora didn't dwell on it and pointed to the office building across the street. "I saw a Rolls-Royce parked at the entrance this morning. My husband loves cars, so I recognized it. That car isn't cheap. I wonder which company's boss it belongs to."

Isadora's casual remark was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, causing ripples in Bella's heart. She looked in the direction Isadora pointed, at the towering office building gleaming in the sunlight, with the empty parking spot in front hinting at the morning's busyness.

Though Bella hadn't seen the Rolls-Royce herself, her body tensed for a moment, a detail she didn't even notice. Her thoughts raced, and the unpleasant memory of last night surged back like a tide.

The figure silently following her in the dark, those eyes that seemed to see through her soul—Sterling's name flashed through her mind, bringing uncertainty and fear.

Could it be Sterling? The thought spread like wildfire in Bella's mind. She tried to recall the details of last night, searching for clues in the hazy fragments of memory.

Bella's heart began to race, an indescribable emotion welling up inside her. Was it fear? Curiosity? Or some unnameable expectation? She couldn't tell. She only knew that Sterling's presence, whatever the reason, was enough to disrupt her peaceful life, forcing her to reassess her relationship with the world.

Bella took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within. Isadora continued talking, but Bella was no longer listening. Her gaze returned to the office building.

Around noon, the store's quiet atmosphere was shattered by Isadora's excited shout. She pointed at the computer screen and called to Bella, who was organizing the shelves. "Bella, we got a big order! That famous financial company in the office building just ordered a hundred desserts and coffees! The coffee's easy, but the desserts will be a lot of work. We need to get started right away."
