Chapter 170 Scheming
Liam's face turned livid with anger upon hearing this. "Bastard, what are you talking about? You're not even as good as Micah. All you do every day is eat, drink, whore, and gamble. What else can you do?"
Elijah didn't dare make a sound after being scolded.
Ollie Hughes thought for a moment and said, "Didn't we already place Clara in Micah's company? She reports to us every quarter and on every deal Micah makes, but there's no project involving Sterling."
Ollie's expression changed as he continued, "Does Micah know Clara was placed by us, so he's wary of her? Or has Clara betrayed us?"
Liam couldn't figure out the situation and said, "Go find Clara and talk to her. The Hughes family can't tolerate a traitor. Today, I've already negotiated with Micah. He will hand over the company but wants to leave the Hughes family."
"He also made it clear that if he leaves, he'll take all his resources with him. I'm not worried about that, but you've been preparing for so long to secure a deal with the Windsor family. Now it seems that with Micah around, we have no chance."
Liam sighed and said to Ollie, "We can't let this happen. Do you have any ideas?"
Ollie thought for a moment and said, "Dad, don't give the Skyline Group to Elijah yet. It would be useless. You know Elijah's character—he's a womanizer and only knows how to eat, drink, whore, and gamble. How could he run a company?"
"Let's keep the Skyline Group with Micah. Keep Micah stable and let him stay in the Hughes family. This way, the Sterling deal will also belong to the Hughes family. As long as Micah doesn't leave the Hughes family, we don't have to worry about Sterling not cooperating with the entire Hughes family in the future."
Elijah immediately retorted upon hearing Ollie's words, "Ollie, are you nuts? You think you're the only capable one and everyone else is useless, right? What about me? In my opinion, you're not even as good as Micah. After all this time, you probably haven't even spoken to Sterling, while Micah might already be best friends with him."
Ollie looked at Elijah with disdain and said, "Don't you know your own character? Didn't you just come from a prostitute? Don't think I don't know."
Liam, annoyed by their argument, said, "Enough, both of you, shut up. Ollie, what you just suggested won't work. We all know Micah's temper. Things have escalated to this point; even if we give him the entire Hughes family, he might not stay. We need to come up with another plan."
Elijah's wife, a girl from a small family, suddenly had an idea and said, "Dad, we know Micah's temper; there's no way to reconcile. But didn't you say Sterling's wife works under Micah? If we can't do it openly, why not try something underhanded? As long as we can secure a deal with Sterling, any means are justified. It doesn't matter if it's clever or not, as long as it works, it's a success, right?"
Ollie's wife immediately shrieked in opposition, "Are you trying to mess with Sterling's wife? That's a death wish!"
Liam didn't quite understand.
Ollie's wife continued, "Don't use your dirty tricks. If things don't work out, you'll just cause more trouble."
Elijah's wife glared angrily and said, "What are you talking about? How is it dirty? Isn't Sterling's wife working at Micah's company? We can set it up so that she betrays Micah, causing a rift between Micah and Sterling."
"Although this won't benefit us directly, we can create trouble on both sides. Make Micah think Sterling values his wife over friendship, and make Sterling think Micah is being unreasonable. We can create chaos on both sides, and then the Hughes family can take the opportunity to win over Sterling. To get back at Micah, Sterling might actually be willing to cooperate with us."
Ollie's eyes lit up at this idea and said, "Dad, I think this could work. Clara is still in the company. I'll go talk to her right away. We can use her to get to Sterling's wife. Clara might not betray Micah, but she can do it on behalf of Sterling's wife. What do you think?"
Liam thought for a moment and said, "Although it's not a brilliant plan, it can still cause trouble for Micah. I'll leave this matter to you; I trust you with it."
Elijah immediately got angry again, "Dad, why? The idea was my wife's, and you're letting Ollie handle it. You're so biased!"
Liam glared at him fiercely, "You can't do anything right. Shut up."
During her lunch break, Bella didn't have much of an appetite and rested at her desk instead of going out to eat.
She thought her colleagues had all gone out for lunch, and the office was quiet.
As she lay on her desk, her mind started to get fuzzy, and she felt like she was about to fall asleep when she suddenly heard the crisp sound of high heels.
Bella looked up and saw Clara. She knew Clara was very punctual and always quick in whatever she did.
Today, she was the last to leave and seemed a bit unsettled, carrying her bag.
Bella wanted to ask her something but saw Clara hurrying away and didn't pay much attention.
However, five minutes before the afternoon work started, Clara still hadn't returned.
It wasn't that Bella was deliberately paying attention to Clara, but ever since she knew Clara was sent by the Hughes family, she felt Clara's behavior was always strange, as if every move had a purpose.
Maybe she was overthinking it. Micah had said Clara was helping him now. But Bella still subconsciously paid attention to Clara.
Clara was 15 minutes late for work in the afternoon. This might not be a big deal for others, but for someone like Clara, it was very unusual.
However, Clara was a supervisor, and Bella had no right to worry about her superior's matters, so she said nothing.
When Bella returned home in the evening, she found that Sterling hadn't come back yet.
The whole house was quiet and felt a bit lifeless, with only a dim wall lamp on in the living room.
Zoey and the others were already asleep. Bella suddenly felt a sense of emptiness. She realized that Sterling had become so important to her.
As long as he was there, the house seemed lively and not so empty. Even if he was home with a cold face, Bella felt the house was bustling.
