Chapter 359 Missing Him
This city isn't by the coast, so seafood is a luxury here. The high transportation costs make even the most common seafood ridiculously expensive.
Bella loves seafood, but she can only treat herself once in a while, unlike in a seaside town where she could enjoy it all the time.
But Bella's learned to find joy in the simple things. She's discovered that this city has plenty of other culinary delights worth exploring.
Anna, on the other hand, has her own standards for quality of life, especially when it comes to food. She never skimps on ingredients, always willing to buy the best to cook delicious meals at home.
But reality often falls short of expectations. Her cooking skills never seem to match the quality of the ingredients she buys.
Once again, Anna stood before a messy dining table, her seafood feast a complete disaster, lacking in both appearance and taste. She sighed in frustration, feeling defeated.
"Colin promised he'd visit me soon, but it's been almost two months. If he doesn't come soon, my cooking will drive me crazy!" Anna complained. She felt she needed a culinary expert to guide her.
Bella, with her gentle nature, was never picky about food. Even when Anna's seafood dishes didn't look appetizing, Bella would still try to appreciate the flavors.
Seeing Anna's dejected expression, Bella comforted her while eating, "If you miss him, just call him and ask him to come. Honestly, you should consider if it's time to move back to Harborvale. You can't keep doing this long-distance thing forever."
Anna paused, seriously contemplating Bella's words. She had never really considered it before, but now it seemed like moving back to Harborvale was inevitable. She looked at Bella, a hint of inquiry in her eyes, "What about you? If I decide to go back, will you come with me?"
Bella shook her head firmly, her eyes reflecting contentment with her current life. "I'm not going back. You're going back to pursue your love, to marry Colin and build your home. As for me, I'm happy running this dessert shop here, staying busy and fulfilled."
Anna was surprised by Bella's response, knowing it was a well-thought-out decision.
Anna thought for a moment, then tightly held Bella's hand, speaking with determination, "Bella, you know what? I would never abandon our friendship for love. Colin is important, but so are you. If you don't go back, I won't leave you here alone."
She paused, then continued, "Besides, long-distance relationships aren't impossible. With modern communication, we can stay in touch through video calls and phone calls every day. If Colin really wants to see me, he'll find a way. If he's too busy to care about my feelings, then I need to reconsider this relationship."
"So, I've decided not to go back to Harborvale for now. I'll stay here with you, running our dessert shop and enjoying life together."
Anna smiled at Bella and added, "I promised to spend my life with you without having kids, and I need to make that clear to Colin to avoid future trouble. But as for marriage, who knows if we'll even get there."
Bella felt a warm surge of emotion at Anna's serious consideration of her previous joke, but also a tinge of worry.
Marriage and children are significant parts of life for most people, and Anna was willing to give that up because of her. This made Bella both touched and uneasy.
"Anna, you can't make such decisions lightly," Bella said earnestly. "Marriage and having children are major life events. You shouldn't decide based on impulse or to comfort me. I can't have children due to health reasons, but you can. Don't deprive yourself of that joy because of me."
Anna, seeing Bella's anxious expression, had an idea. She smiled and said, "Well, if you really want a child, I could have one for you to raise! That way, we can keep our strong friendship, and you can experience the joy of motherhood."
Bella laughed at Anna's suggestion, gently patting her shoulder. "Anna, you're such a goof. You think the Rivera family would agree to that? Raising a child is exhausting, and I don't have the time right now. Enough of this nonsense, let's eat."
Just then, Colin called. Anna answered the video call, deliberately pointing the camera at the unappetizing dish on the table, with a hint of challenge in her voice. "Look at what I made. Any comments?"
Colin scrutinized the dish on the screen and bluntly said, "It looks like pig food. The color alone tells me it's bad. I'll give you the number for my restaurant. Order from there next time."
His tone was decisive and dismissive, leaving no room for Anna's feelings. Anna's face immediately showed her displeasure. She turned the camera to Bella, who was eating dessert, and said, "Bella's eating it. Are you calling her a pig?"
Colin's tone softened slightly but still carried a teasing edge. "I wouldn't dare insult Bella. I was just making a point, not targeting anyone specifically. Don't twist my words."
Bella, listening to Colin, couldn't help but feel exasperated. She teased, "Colin, you didn't hear Anna earlier. She said if you don't come soon, her cooking will drive her crazy. She misses you and wants you to come quickly."
As soon as Bella finished speaking, Anna quickly grabbed the phone and ended the call, her face flushed with embarrassment. She playfully scolded Bella, "Stop saying that! I'm so embarrassed! I don't miss him that much!"
Bella laughed at Anna's shy reaction, patting her back. "Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore. But see, Colin does care about you. He called as soon as he heard you missed him."
