Chapter 152 The Mastermind Behind the Scenes
Colin's actions left Anna totally confused, but after hearing the news, she was absolutely livid. Already in the spotlight, the latest headlines just made everything worse, turning her life into even more of a mess.
When Micah found Colin, he was hanging around outside Anna's apartment building, slumped against a corner of the wall, bloodstains on his hands. Micah was shocked.
Micah, looking frustrated, said, "Why do you always act on impulse? Those losers aren't worth your time."
Colin smirked and said, "I think I really screwed up this time. I shouldn't have dragged her into this. I know Anna hates being labeled as the other woman, but now everyone's calling her that. Do you think I did her wrong?"
Micah patted Colin's shoulder and said seriously, "I told you not to mess around. Now look at you, in trouble. Anna's a good girl. I used to think you were just a player. So, are you serious this time?"
Colin just smiled at Micah's teasing. "I don't know. Maybe for a moment, I thought settling down and getting married wouldn't be so bad. But I know I inherited my dad's traits. I'm scared that after getting married, I might lose interest and still want a free life. I'm terrified of hurting her."
Micah looked at Colin, puzzled. "So, you just want a casual thing with Anna?"
Colin sighed helplessly. "A casual fling? You don't get it. Anna's not the type for casual flings. She's like a rose with thorns, and I want to be the one who truly cares for her."
Micah punched Colin's shoulder. "You beat up a reporter during the day, came here in the middle of the night acting crazy, and now you're saying all this poetic stuff. With Anna's fiery personality, do you really think she'd want to be your rose?"
"Don't forget, she used to be an aristocrat. Her pride runs deep; no one can make her submit. What she wants, you can't give. And what you want is just your ego and possessiveness. You want to conquer her, to keep her by your side, but you can't give her what she needs. I advise you to back off before this turns into endless trouble. You've still got a fiancée and plenty of admirers waiting for you. Anna isn't right for you, and she can't be your rose."
Colin could only smile bitterly. "Not right? What does 'right' even mean? Being with her feels good. It's weird. I never thought I'd be troubled by a woman one day."
Micah was also incredulous. "Yeah, you, troubled by a woman. Haven't you always been open to everyone? Your feelings for Anna are just because she didn't want a one-night stand with you. If one day Anna clings to you like those other women, do you think you'd still be interested in her?"
Colin didn't say anything back to Micah. Just the thought of Anna throwing herself at him made his blood boil.
He remembered that night they slept together. He had plenty of chances to make a move, but he didn't. Didn't that show he cared about her? But he couldn't figure out what kind of care it was.
Was it just physical attraction, or did he actually like Anna as a person? Colin was getting more and more confused.
The midnight wind blew, giving Micah goosebumps. He rubbed his arms and said, "Alright, stop overthinking. Don't just stand outside Anna's door. If you came to apologize, go talk to her."
Colin decided not to see Anna now because he couldn't define his feelings for her. He wasn't sure if Anna would forgive him this time.
Colin said, "Forget it. She still has to come to work. I'll explain then."
Micah looked at Colin with disdain. "You're so clueless. After all this, you still expect Anna to come to work for you? What are you thinking? Forget it. If you're not going, let's head back. Sterling's also in some trouble. It's clear someone is targeting his company."
Speaking of Sterling, Colin got serious. He looked at Micah and said, "By the way, how's your company? There have been a lot of issues lately. I heard you're handing it over to Elijah. Is that true? What are you thinking?"
Micah shook his head helplessly. "Don't you know what it means to be a stepchild? That's me. My father ignores me, and my mother doesn't love me. What can I do? But if I ever go solo, don't underestimate me."
Colin smiled. "What are you talking about? With your skills and connections, you could easily crush Elijah's company."
As they talked, they got back into the car. Colin had driven all the way from home to Anna's place but forgot to refuel, so Micah had to pick him up.
Colin looked out the car window and saw Anna's room. It was already early morning, but her light was still on. That dim light reminded him of a week ago when Anna was helping him clean his house.
Forget it, he couldn't think about it. Just thinking about it made him feel guilty towards Anna. This whole mess was his fault, and it wasn't over yet.
When Colin found out that Debra was behind this incident, everyone was stunned. They didn't know how Debra was involved.
Initially, Opal's photos had been taken down by Colin immediately. But the situation escalated because Debra was stirring the pot behind the scenes. They hadn't noticed Debra's actions, which led to the situation spiraling out of control.
They were all stunned for a moment, puzzled by Debra's involvement, but Bella knew.
