Chapter 129 Returning to the Old Trade
Anna's hands shook as she opened the email. Her eyes went wide. It was a notification from the bank saying $20,000 had been drained from her account. She was about to lose it.
Anna's mind immediately went to Qiana. It had to be her again, blowing through her money like it was nothing. Qiana had promised to be more responsible, but now she had burned through two months' worth of her hard-earned savings?
Rent was coming up soon. What was she going to do? Anna was really on the edge of breaking down.
Just earlier, Anna had confidently told Colin she wouldn't take on a part-time job. But now, if she didn't, how was she going to pay the rent? How was she going to cover her living expenses?
When would she be able to repay Colin for Peter's surgery? And with Qiana's reckless spending, what was she going to do in the future?
Anna was feeling overwhelmed. She wondered if she would have to go back to her old job. After a day of agonizing over it, she reluctantly took out her phone and called her former boss at the bar where she used to work part-time.
Before finishing work, Anna made a call to her boss. Knowing that Anna was in need of money, he agreed to let her come back.
The boss also knew that Anna was Colin's girl, so he didn't make things difficult for her and agreed to let her continue selling drinks at the bar.
Although the job carried some risks, the pay was indeed high. The commission from selling a single bottle of alcohol could range from $1,000 to $5,000 a night, so Anna decided to take the part-time job.
Anna felt like she was throwing away her self-respect. She hoped Colin wouldn't find out.
After work, Anna hurried to the locker room, grabbed her old work clothes, and prepared to head to the bar.
When Colin finished work, he saw a figure slowly leaving through the side door. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was Anna. She was carrying a bag and quickly hailed a cab.
Colin found it odd. Anna, who usually pinched every penny, was suddenly willing to spend money on a cab?
He decided to follow the cab to see what Anna was up to.
Colin was shocked to find that he had followed Anna to the bar where she used to work. He clenched his jaw. Anna had promised to work only for him, and now she was looking for a new job.
Furious, Colin slammed the car door and followed Anna into the bar.
When Anna went to see the bar manager, he immediately noticed her good looks. He suggested, "If you want to make more money, you could work as a hostess. It pays much better than selling beverages. What do you think?"
Anna shook her head immediately. "I agreed to only sell beverages. I won't do anything that involves selling my body."
The manager smirked. "Selling your body? That's such an ugly way to put it. It's just drinking with the customers, nothing more. You don't have to go with them."
He continued, "You can make a lot of money just by drinking with the customers. If you're lucky, you could easily make $100,000 in one night."
Anna looked at the bar manager in disbelief. "That much?" But then she thought about it. When she used to hang out with wealthy men, they did tip the hostesses generously.
But she couldn't cross that line. Was she really going to become a hostess? She pushed down her emotions and said, "I'll think about it."
When Colin walked into the bar, he didn't spot Anna right away. Instead of rushing to find her, he went straight to the boss.
The boss confirmed that Anna had called earlier and was there to sell beverages. She was currently with the manager, finishing up the hiring process.
But selling beverages often meant drinking with the customers. Colin, with a dark expression, said, "I want her. Bring her to my private room."
The boss immediately smiled and said, "Alright, I'll have her come to your room shortly."
In the locker room, Anna hesitated for a long time before changing into her work clothes. She didn't want to do this job, but she felt trapped by her circumstances. Thinking about Qiana's monthly extravagance, the rent, and living expenses, she felt overwhelmed.
Why was everyone pushing her? Anna took a deep breath, adjusted her clothes, and mustered the courage to walk out.
As soon as she stepped out, the bar manager rushed over and said, "Anna, someone has requested you to drink with them."
Anna was surprised. "So soon?" She had a bad feeling and her heart raced.
But the manager pushed her, saying, "Are you stupid? Take good care of these rich men. If they're happy, they might tip you $100,000. You wouldn't have to work so hard selling beverages."
Anna said, "But I don't know how to..."
The manager interrupted her, "Stop talking. They're waiting for you."
The manager then dragged Anna to the door of the VIP room. With a mischievous smile, he said, "Go on. Someone's waiting for you. Don't dawdle. Don't you want to make money? Selling drinks won't get you much in one night."
He then pushed Anna into the room. The lights were off, and it was very quiet inside, so much so that without careful observation, one wouldn't even realize there was someone else in the room.
Anna looked at the dimly lit room and thought about turning on the light but decided against it to avoid awkwardness.
It was her first time working as a hostess, and she was completely at a loss. She didn't know where to place her hands and feet.
She could only see a vague silhouette. She slowly moved closer and said, "Sir, are you there?"
Colin listened to Anna's voice, which was cautious and slightly trembling, and sneered inwardly. He thought, 'With such little courage, she dared to become a hostess?'
Colin didn't respond. Anna assumed he was taciturn and possessed a calm demeanor, so she felt a bit more at ease and walked closer.
Even when she reached Colin's side, she still couldn't see his face clearly. The dim lighting, combined with his black attire, rendered his features indistinguishable.
Anna nervously poured a glass of wine and handed it to Colin. "Sir, would you like a drink?"
Colin didn't speak or take the glass, leaving Anna awkwardly holding it. She didn't know whether to put it down or keep holding it.
Anna had no idea what to do as a hostess and could only wait for the customer's next move. Her arm was getting sore from holding the glass. She didn't know who the man was, and at that moment, time seemed to freeze in the room.
She held the glass, not daring to move, while the man remained silent, his head bowed, lost in thought.
