Chapter 173 Settling Scores with the Hughes Family

Watching Clara's back, Bella was almost certain now that Clara was the one who stole the contract.

But Micah didn't have time to investigate the specifics, so she had to solve it quickly for him. Without thinking, Bella rushed into Micah's office.

"I know who stole the contract. It was Clara. Although there's no direct evidence, I tested her in the break room just now. She didn't directly admit it, but she didn't deny it either."

Bella shared her thoughts, and Micah leaned back in his chair, not looking too surprised.

Micah said, "I suspected her for a while, but I didn't expect you to find out so quickly. I can't understand why she did it. Is she trying to play both sides?"

Bella said, "It's simple. If you want to know why she did it, just call her in and ask her."

When Clara was called into the office, she looked calm, not showing any signs of panic.

Before Micah could speak, Clara placed a resignation letter on the table.

"Mr. Hughes, this is my resignation letter," Clara said calmly.

Micah frowned at Clara, "What are you doing?"

Clara didn't hide anything and said directly, "I know I made a lot of mistakes this time. I didn't intend to hide it. I knew you would catch me, so here's my resignation letter."

Micah looked at her, a hint of disappointment in his eyes. He said, "Why did you do it? Can you tell me the reason?"

Then Micah laughed self-deprecatingly, "Never mind, you don't have to say it. I know the reason. You think starting over with me would be too difficult. My small startup can't give you what you want, so you decided to help Elijah, right?"

Clara didn't speak, which was as good as admitting it.

Micah said, "Forget it. I was planning to take you with me when the company opened, but it seems we are not meant to be."

Clara felt bad too, a hint of guilt in her eyes. She said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Hughes. I betrayed your trust, but I really had no choice. My parents are old, and I have siblings to support. I can't start over."

Micah smiled indifferently, "I don't blame you. Go back to the Hughes Group headquarters."

After Clara left, Bella said, "I didn't expect her to admit it so easily. But she probably had her reasons."

Micah sneered, "Who doesn't have their reasons? If everyone had their own reasons, wouldn't the world be chaotic? Forget it. Since she doesn't want to start a business with us, I can't force her."

Bella thought about it and said, "Anyway, Clara is going back to the Hughes Group, so we won't have any more interactions with her."

But Micah felt that Clara couldn't have done it alone. He thought for a moment and then said to Bella, "You should go back. After you finish handing over the company's matters, take a few days off. I'll notify you when my new company is ready."

Without waiting for Bella to respond, Micah stormed out. Bella quickly followed and asked, "Where are you going?"

Thinking about the Hughes family's schemes made Micah furious. He had agreed to hand over the company, but the Hughes family still wanted to mess with him. He couldn't swallow this anger.

Micah said, "It's nothing. You go back first. I'm going to have a chat with Elijah."

Seeing Micah leave angrily, Bella felt something was bound to happen.

Micah was probably going to confront the Hughes family. Given Micah's personality, he wouldn't let the Hughes family off easily after they betrayed him.

Worried, she called Sterling.

Sterling was in a meeting when he got Bella's call. After hearing what she said, he immediately called Colin.

He couldn't go himself, so he asked Bella to go and make sure Micah didn't do anything irreversible. He also said, "Be safe."

Bella smiled, "I know. I'm going now."

Colin rushed to Micah's place after getting the call. Driving at high speed, Anna clutched her seatbelt in fear and said, "Colin, what are you doing? Let me out."

Anna was furious, and Colin didn't look too good either. He said, "I need to find Micah now. I don't have time to let you out."

Anna was livid, "If you don't have time to let me out, why did you bring me along?"

Anna remembered that Qiana had called her earlier, saying she owed money at the casino and wasn't allowed to leave, asking Anna to handle it.

Just as Anna was about to leave, Colin grabbed her and said he would take her. But after getting a call, he drove off like a madman.

"Where are we going?" Anna asked sharply.

Colin, eyes on the road, said, "I told you, to find Micah."

Anna didn't say anything more. She was worried about Qiana but thought it might be good for her to suffer a bit. Qiana was always gambling, and Anna had no more money to give her.

When they arrived at the Hughes Mansion, Bella also arrived. She was surprised to see Anna, "What are you doing here?"

Anna glared at Colin and said, "Because of him. Never mind, let's deal with Micah first."

As they reached the door, they could hear a heated argument inside.

In the Hughes family living room, everyone was there. Elijah was pointing at Micah and yelling, "You, the son of a shameless woman, dare to call yourself one of us? You're just a bastard, unworthy of being in the Hughes Mansion. Get out now."

Micah, hands on his hips, laughed instead of getting angry, "I'm a bastard? Fine, if I'm a bastard, then what does that make your dad? A scumbag?"

Liam, standing nearby, flushed with anger, "What nonsense are you spouting?"

Realizing his mistake, Elijah fell silent.

Ollie then said, "Micah, we said there's still a chance to fix this. If you can bring Sterling's business to the Hughes family, we can forget everything that happened."

Micah sneered, "You think you're so clever. Give Sterling's business to the Hughes family, and then you'll kick me out, right?"
