Chapter 150 Breaking Off the Engagement

Micah frowned and said, "You didn't hear? Sterling's company is in hot water too. He's probably stuck at the office every day now."

Bella was shocked, "What? His company's in trouble too?"

She suddenly felt dizzy. Why was everything falling apart all at once?

Taking a deep breath, she asked, "What exactly happened?"

Micah explained, "Looks like a foreign acquisition deal got mixed up with some gangsters, and now the government's all over them. Sterling's gotta stay at the company to help with the investigation. He's probably so swamped he barely has time to eat. He might even have to go abroad in a few days to sort things out. I've been trying to catch up with him but no luck. It wasn't until I went to the Windsor Group yesterday that I saw how slammed he is."

Just then, Colin called Anna. The three of them exchanged glances, and Bella said, "Answer it."

Anna picked up the call, and Colin immediately asked, "Anna, how are you?"

Anna snorted and said, "This is all your fault. I can't even leave my house now. Happy? There are a bunch of reporters and online trolls just waiting for me to mess up."

Colin knew this was on him, that he hadn't handled things well, and he would take responsibility.

"I've already started dealing with it. I don't know what's going on with the rest, but I'm still looking into it. Don't worry, I'll sort it out."

Anna said, "Alright, just handle it quickly."

Then she hung up.

At the Rivera Mansion, Colin was cornered upstairs by his mother Gia Long, along with Opal and her parents. He put his phone away, his eyes gleaming with a sharp intensity.

Did they really think they could control Colin without knowing how he grew up? If he didn't have some tricks up his sleeve, he would have been taken out in the Rivera family disputes long ago.

Colin steeled himself and walked downstairs, seeing they were waiting for him in the large living room.

With a calm expression, Colin took a seat on the sofa across from them.

As soon as Opal saw Colin, she excitedly said, "Colin, I know I messed up this time. Can you give me another chance?"

Before Colin could respond, Opal's mother, Elysia Turner, cut in, "Opal, you deserve better. Why are you putting up with this? Didn't you see he has a mistress hidden in the house? You shouldn't have to tolerate such disrespect."

Opal's father, Cade Turner, also chimed in, "Right, you're the eldest daughter of the Turner family. What kind of man can't you find? I think we need to reconsider this engagement."

Cade glanced at Gia after speaking. Gia was an elegant woman whose sharp eyes were honed by life's hardships. Her exceptional methods in handling matters were the reason she could keep the Rivera family in check.

Gia smiled, her tone neutral, "Colin was indeed wrong in this matter. If you want any compensation, just ask. Let the kids handle their own issues. But the engagement has been publicly announced, tell me what you want."

Elysia and Cade exchanged a glance, clearly having discussed this beforehand.

Cade spoke up first, "Since you put it that way, we did think Colin and Opal might not be a good match. But since you mentioned compensation, we want two percent of the Elysian Horizon project."

Gia's well-maintained face instantly showed signs of stress. The Elysian Horizon project had a profit of about a billion dollars.

Now, giving two percent to the Turner family seemed unreasonable, especially since their role in the project was marginal and didn't touch the core.

Cade, a marginal manager, asking for two percent of the project's profits was outrageous. But given Colin and Opal's situation, Gia was willing to compromise. After all, the Rivera family could afford it.

Just as Gia was about to agree, Colin suddenly said, "Let's call off the engagement."

Everyone turned to stare at Colin, especially Opal, who immediately jumped up, "Colin, what do you mean by that? Are you calling off the engagement because of that bitch? What does she have that I don't? I won't agree to call off the engagement."

Opal's shrewish behavior made Gia frown slightly, showing no trace of noblewoman's grace, and Colin's eyes were full of disgust, which Opal noticed. But she had fallen for Colin at first sight.

Despite Colin's bad reputation, Opal thought his mistresses were just flings, not serious relationships.

Seeing Anna at Whitewater Bay, a place she had never been, made her wary and scared. She hastily exposed Anna, not expecting it to accelerate Colin's decision to call off the engagement.

Gia looked at Colin and said, "Colin, what do you mean by this? The engagement has already been announced. Now you want to call it off? What are you thinking?"

Elysia and Cade also didn't let Colin off the hook.

Cade was the first to speak up, "Colin, don't be ungrateful. Opal got engaged to you when she was 19. When I entrusted her to you, you promised to take care of Opal. Now you want to call off the engagement? What do you take the Turner family for?"

Colin sneered, "19? I remember you sent Opal abroad to study when she was 19. She only came back three months ago, right? Don't talk about entrusting her to me. I haven't even touched her. I'll return her to you just as you gave her to me. And as for the two percent of the Elysian Horizon project, do you have the nerve to ask? If it weren't for the old family ties, the Turner family wouldn't even be on our radar. Opal's actions have crossed my line. Calling off the engagement is the best choice to avoid making things ugly."

Colin's words were sarcastic and blunt, making Elysia and Cade feel considerable embarrassment. Gia frowned deeply.

She knew Colin had matured and had his own ideas. She wasn't sure if his personality was a strength or a flaw.
