Chapter 271 Rainy Night Crisis 1
Derek sneered to himself, seeing right through Bella's intentions. "So, you want me to pitch the business to Sterling?"
Bella shot back, "Look, I don't know much about business, but I do know that anyone who can bring something valuable to the Windsor family gets a pass from Sterling. If it's such a great deal, why don't you go straight to him? Why drag me into it?"
Derek felt a wave of confidence. He knew he could bring benefits to the Windsor family, but he also knew Sterling wouldn't let him off easy if he found out.
Derek couldn't quite figure Bella out. Did Sterling know what they were up to? Had he told Bella anything?
Seeing Bella's clueless expression, Derek boasted, "Of course it's a good deal. But you know my nephew. If I go to him directly, it won't fly. That's why I need a middleman to smooth things over."
Bella was now certain Derek was involved in something shady, maybe even drug trafficking. She also suspected Blair and Tobias might be in on it too.
She couldn't believe their nerve. They were risking the Windsor family's reputation, yet he still dreamed of being part of the family. It was laughable.
Bella decided she'd said enough. With a troubled look, she said, "Since you don't want to tell me about my father's situation, I won't push. I'll find out the truth eventually."
She grabbed Anna's hand to leave, but Derek, still not ready to give up, said, "I can tell you about your father. Besides me, there's one other person who knows—Caleb."
Anna froze at the mention of Caleb's name and turned back to Derek, surprised. "Caleb? You mean the Caleb we all know?"
"Yeah, and our business was introduced by Caleb. He's the Windsor family's illegitimate son. With this leverage, I believe you'll help me, right?" Derek said confidently.
Both Anna and Bella were stunned. How could Caleb know the truth about Lucas' accident?
Bella recalled the details she had uncovered. Only Beck knew about Lucas' situation.
She remembered Beck's stay at the nursing home, where she saw many high-end nutritional supplements in his room.
At that time, Beck was gravely ill and had no family or friends. Who would send him such expensive supplements?
The thought flashed through Bella's mind. Could Caleb have sent those supplements?
Could Beck and Caleb have known each other? Or was there some connection between them?
Bella couldn't figure out how Beck and Caleb could have known each other. Was there something she didn't know?
She suddenly felt a chill. If Caleb and Beck were connected, Sterling must know too.
Had Sterling always known she was investigating Lucas' plane crash? Did he know the truth about Lucas' accident?
Bella looked at Derek in horror. He said someone from the Windsor family knew about Lucas' accident. Was he talking about Caleb or Sterling?
Anna was also stunned. She hadn't expected Caleb to be involved.
Why? Why would Caleb know about Lucas' situation?
Derek, however, just laughed, a chilling sound in the quiet room. "You want to know, but you don't have anything to trade with me. Why should I tell you?"
Anna, her fiery temper flaring, was about to confront him, but Bella grabbed her wrist. "Anna, don't. It's not worth it."
Since Sterling knew, she could ask him directly. There was no need to make a deal with someone like Derek.
At 2:30 AM, the bright moon was hidden by low, dark clouds, and a light rain began to fall.
Ryan, along with four burly men, agilely jumped over the Windsor Villa's wall.
They were all dressed in black—black tactical jackets, black cargo pants, leather gloves—ready for action.
One of his men asked, "Mr. Brown, shouldn't we wear masks?"
"No need," Ryan replied. As they landed, they saw Colin waiting for them inside the wall.
"Mr. Rivera, what's the situation?" Ryan asked.
Colin said, "Pull up your hoods to cover yourselves a bit. Aren't you worried about being spotted inside the Windsor Villa?"
The men quickly pulled up their hoods.
Colin continued, "Be careful. You go outside to keep watch. I'll arrange the men. Caleb's people are also inside the Windsor Villa. It looks like tonight they're targeting your boss, Mr. Windsor. If things get rough, don't hold back."
Ryan's expression turned serious. "Mr. Rivera, don't worry. They won't harm Mr. Windsor."
Ryan climbed back over the wall, while Colin led the men inside, heading towards the east wing where Sterling was staying.
They didn't know that Caleb's men were watching Sterling from the crabapple tree outside his room. The lights were off, and it seemed he was asleep.
The men in the tree, annoyed by the rain, wiped their faces impatiently.
They thought Caleb and Tobias were being overly cautious. Apart from the rain, everything seemed calm.
Who would be awake at this hour?
Just as this thought crossed their minds, they saw several shadows approaching Sterling's door.
They were shocked, watching as the door opened and the shadows slipped inside.
Alarmed, they quickly sent someone to report the situation. Something was indeed happening.
Meanwhile, Caleb had quietly entered the Windsor Villa, joining Tobias, Blair, and Blair's sons.
They were already on edge due to Sterling's presence and couldn't sleep.
Upon hearing the news, Tobias angrily struck the floor with his cane. "Where's Derek? Wasn't he supposed to keep watch? How did people get inside? Where is he?"
Someone stepped forward to report, "Derek seems to have gone to the back garden."
"That fool! What is he doing in the garden at a time like this? Get him back here immediately," Tobias shouted.
Caleb hadn't expected Sterling to act so quickly. He paced back and forth, while Blair and Tobias exchanged worried glances.
Caleb suddenly remembered something and turned sharply. "Did the goods get sent out?"
"No, we didn't have time," Blair said anxiously. "We were supposed to send them this afternoon, but Sterling showed up, so we couldn't."
