Chapter 52 A Hero Saves the Damsel in Distress
Colin eyed the thugs in front of him, a smirk tugging at his lips.
"Let me guess, you got a girl to lure me in, then you bust in pretending to be her family and shake me down, right? When did you start eyeing me? And isn't it a bit early for your grand entrance?" Colin asked, leaning casually against the door frame.
But to Colin's surprise, the bald thug pointed a steel pipe at him and snarled, "We ain't after you, pal. Beat it!"
Colin blinked. 'Wait, are these guys really just after the girl?'
Anna, already pissed from being chased, got even more furious at Colin's words.
"What do you think I am? Some hooker trying to scam you? Check me out. Do I look like the kind of girl you're talking about?" Anna snapped at Colin.
Colin gave Anna a once-over.
Even though Anna's family had hit hard times, her clothes were all designer, and she had that rich-girl vibe.
"My bad, looks like I got it wrong." Colin shrugged.
"Are you done?" The bald thug swung the steel pipe angrily.
The pipe whooshed through the air. Anna's face went pale, imagining the pain if it hit her.
"Since this is your beef, I'm out. Later." Colin shrugged, rolled up the car window, and drove off.
The car started moving, and no matter how much Anna yelled, it just kept going. The thugs didn't even try to stop it.
"Jerk! You could at least call the cops!" Anna screamed at the Bentley, feeling hopeless.
The bald thug grinned wickedly as he walked toward Anna. "Scream all you want. No one's coming."
"Flynn, this chick's way hotter than those street girls," one of the thugs said with a sleazy grin.
The other thugs grinned too, eyeing Anna as they closed in.
Anna shook with fear. "Don't come any closer. I have money. Let me go, and it's all yours."
Flynn Reed sneered, already starting to strip. "Once we strip you, the money's ours anyway, and so are you!"
Despair flashed in Anna's eyes.
Just as Flynn was down to his underwear, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
Flynn turned around, confused, and saw Colin.
"Didn't you leave? Why are you back?" Flynn frowned, but before he could react, Colin's fist smashed into his face.
Flynn hit the ground, clutching his nose and howling.
Colin shrugged, bent down, and picked up the steel pipe Flynn had dropped.
"A hero passing by saves a damsel in distress. Sounds pretty epic, right?" Colin grinned at Flynn and the other thugs.
"Get him!" Flynn roared, and his goons rushed at Colin.
Colin's lips twisted into a smirk. He dodged their swings like it was nothing, then used the steel pipe to whack their hands and feet.
The pipe hitting flesh made a sickening thud, followed by the thugs' screams.
The guys who had charged at Colin were now rolling on the ground, clutching their limbs and howling in pain.
Colin strolled over to Flynn, who was still bleeding from his nose. Seeing Colin, Flynn looked like he'd seen a ghost and started backing away.
"Stay back! Hitting people is illegal, you know?" Flynn blurted out, sounding ridiculous.
Colin stopped and raised an eyebrow. "If I recall, you were about to beat up that lady, rape her, and rob her. Are you a saint now?"
Flynn shouted, "I might be a scumbag, but hitting scumbags is still illegal."
Colin laughed at Flynn's shamelessness. But before Flynn could say more, Anna kicked him hard in the back of the head.
"Who sent you to attack me? Spill it!" Anna picked up the steel pipe and pointed it at Flynn, fuming.
Flynn didn't take Anna seriously, but Colin was still standing there.
"It was some chick named Debra. I don't know her. My buddies and I were just hanging out, and she paid us to rough you up." Flynn confessed.
Hearing Debra's name, Colin's frown deepened. Anna, meanwhile, was livid.
"That bitch Debra, she's gonna pay for this!" Anna swung the steel pipe in the air furiously.
The pipe whooshed past Flynn's ear, making him flinch.
"Sir, can you keep an eye on them while I call the cops? No signal here," Anna asked Colin.
But Colin wasn't having it. "Why should I help you? I'm alone, and there are five of them. It's risky for me. How about you stay here, and I'll go call the cops?"
Colin turned and started walking away, not wanting to get tangled up in Debra's mess.
Anna panicked. If Colin left, she couldn't handle the five thugs alone. She gritted her teeth and followed him.
"How can you be like this? Those five are no match for you," Anna said angrily, trailing Colin.
Colin turned around, his smile gone, and said seriously, "Miss, I have no obligation to save you. Just because I'm not afraid of trouble doesn't mean I like getting involved in things that aren't my business. Out of courtesy, I can drive you to the police station, but don't expect me to do anything more."
Anna bit her lip, knowing Colin was right. This wasn't his problem. But his attitude still rubbed her the wrong way.
