Chapter 245 Half True Half False
Anna still hadn't answered Caleb's question and rushed home in a panic.
She couldn't figure out what was happening to her. Every time she thought about agreeing with Caleb, Colin's face popped into her mind.
Feeling suffocated, she locked herself in her room and couldn't help but think about what Lorenzo had said at the hospital.
What was the real story behind the Powell family's bankruptcy? She wanted to investigate but had no idea where to start.
Anna stared at her phone, debating whether to call Colin but unsure of what to say.
Lost in thought, her phone suddenly rang. To her surprise, it was Colin.
For some reason, Anna felt a wave of nervousness, especially after seeing Colin at the restaurant earlier that day, which had left her heartbroken.
"Hello?" she answered cautiously.
There was no response from the other end. Anxiously, she asked again, "Hello? Mr. Rivera?"
Still, there was silence. Confused, she checked her phone. The call was definitely connected.
"Did you dial the wrong number? If you don't speak, I'm hanging up," Anna said, ready to end the call.
Suddenly, Colin spoke, "Anna."
Startled, Anna snapped, "What are you doing? Trying to scare me? Why didn't you say anything?"
Colin himself wasn't sure why he had called. He just felt an urge to hear Anna's voice but didn't know what to say.
"Is there something you need?" Anna asked softly.
Colin chuckled, "What? Can't I call you without a reason?"
Anna was speechless, unsure of his intentions. Irritated, she said, "If there's nothing, I'm hanging up."
Anna didn't understand her own feelings. She had wanted to call Colin, but his nonchalant attitude made her angry.
"Did you make up with him?" Colin's voice sounded lonely and desolate over the phone.
Anna fell silent, unsure how to respond because she didn't know what her relationship with Caleb was anymore.
"Answer me," Colin demanded firmly.
Anna's voice caught in her throat, "What does it matter to you? I'm hanging up."
She quickly ended the call, as if trying to hide something, while Colin stared at his phone in a daze.
So, had she reconciled with that man or not?
The next day, as Qiana was taking out the trash, she unexpectedly saw Caleb, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, standing at the door.
"Mrs. Powell, I'm here to visit you," Caleb said with a polite smile.
Anna had already left for work, and Qiana's expression was anything but welcoming. She had no intention of letting Caleb in.
"What are you doing here?" Qiana huffed coldly.
Caleb smiled, "Mrs. Powell, I'm here to talk to you. I believe you'll be interested in what I have to say."
Seeing Caleb in a suit, looking every bit the successful man, Qiana calculated her options and finally said, "Alright, come on up."
Caleb's confident smile widened as he walked back to Anna's door, as if everything was under control.
Though Qiana's face remained stern, her eyes showed a hint of curiosity and doubt. She let Caleb in and pointed to the living room sofa, indicating for him to sit.
Caleb nodded politely, placed his gift aside, and sat down, trying to appear as composed as possible.
"What did you mean by what you said earlier?" Qiana asked directly, her tone filled with dissatisfaction and suspicion, clearly still wary of Caleb's intentions.
Caleb took a deep breath and began to explain, "Mrs. Powell, you might not know this, but Sterling is actually my half-brother. Although we didn't grow up together, we share a strong bond. The dock he recently bought from you was actually meant to be a gift for me."
This half-truth was meant to sway Qiana.
Qiana's eyebrows furrowed slightly, clearly shocked by this unexpected news.
She hadn't realized that her secret transaction with the Windsor family had such deep connections to Caleb.
Sterling had indeed approached her to secretly buy a dock.
She hadn't expected to make a fortune after the Powell family went bankrupt, but Sterling had insisted that the deal remain confidential, even from Anna.
Now Caleb knew. Could he be telling the truth?
"Is what you're saying true?" Qiana's voice held a note of uncertainty as she looked at Caleb, trying to discern the truth from his eyes.
Caleb nodded solemnly, "Absolutely, Mrs. Powell. If you don't believe me, you can call Sterling. Besides, I had dinner with Anna, Sterling, and Bella yesterday. They all support us being together."
Qiana fell into a brief silence, looking at Caleb with a complex expression.
She had once despised Caleb for his poverty and resented him for leaving Anna when the Powell family went bankrupt.
But now, learning about Caleb's connection to the Windsor family, her attitude began to shift.
"So, what do you want to talk to me about today?" Qiana's voice finally softened a bit as she looked at Caleb, trying to read more from his eyes.
Caleb smiled slightly and began to express his feelings sincerely, "Mrs. Powell, I'm here today to talk about my future with Anna. I know I've made many mistakes in the past, and you have every reason to doubt me. But please believe me, I truly love Anna. I'm willing to do anything for her."
Qiana listened to Caleb's words, feeling a ripple in her heart. She saw the determination and tenderness in Caleb's eyes, as if seeing her daughter's future happiness and hope.
She knew she might need to let go of past prejudices but was unsure if she should trust him.
Caleb seized the moment, "Mrs. Powell, I can provide Anna with a good life. A house, a car, money—I can give it all."
Qiana's smile grew more meaningful as she nodded, seemingly satisfied with Caleb's response, "It's good to have that intention. As for the house, since you mentioned it, we won't be shy."
"But you should discuss it with Anna and see what kind of place she likes. After all, it's where you'll live after you get married, and it should suit her taste."
Caleb smiled, already having a plan in mind, "Don't worry, Mrs. Powell. I'll definitely discuss it with Anna. And the house I give you will be one that both you and Anna like. Once we've chosen, I'll transfer it to your name as a guarantee of my commitment."
Qiana's eyes flashed with a hint of surprise but quickly returned to calm.
She knew she couldn't easily reveal her emotions at this critical moment.
