Chapter 287 Ultimately Cannot Be Hidden

The next day at noon, Bella finally woke up. The first thing she did was grab her phone and call Anna. She wasn't sure if Anna had made it home last night.

As soon as the call connected, Anna's voice burst through the phone. "Bella, why the heck am I at Colin's place? I remember he was supposed to take me home last night! Why am I at Whitewater Bay now?"

Bella quickly moved the phone away from her ear to avoid the loud complaint. "Anna, can you lower your voice a bit? My eardrums are about to burst. You said you're at Colin's house? Are you guys okay?"

Anna took a moment to calm down and looked around. Apart from the bathrobe she was wearing, there was nothing unusual.

"Yeah, we should be fine. Colin seems to have slept on the couch; I can see signs someone slept there. He's not here now. Isn't he worried I might empty his house while he's gone?"

Bella was speechless. What was Colin up to? He brought Anna back to his place again.

Bella thought she definitely needed to have a serious talk with Colin about his intentions toward Anna.

"Anna, if everything's fine, you should head home. Colin probably couldn't take you home properly since you were so drunk last night," Bella sighed.

Looks like they should avoid going to bars and drinking next time.

After finishing the call with Anna, Bella got up and went downstairs. She expected a quiet afternoon but was interrupted by an unexpected letter.

The afternoon sun was shining brightly as Bella played on the swing in the garden with Sunny. The air was filled with a peaceful atmosphere.

Suddenly, a young maid came running over. She respectfully said to Bella, "Mrs. Windsor, someone delivered something this morning, specifically for you."

Bella was puzzled and a bit curious. "What is it? Who sent it?"

The maid shook her head, looking confused. "I don't know. I haven't seen that person before. It seems to be an envelope."

As she spoke, the maid pulled an envelope from her pocket and handed it to Bella.

Bella took the letter, her eyes falling on the familiar stationery, and her body stiffened involuntarily.

It was the kind of paper Beck often used. Bella was very familiar with it.

Bella carefully opened the envelope and scanned the words inside.

As she read, her breathing became more rapid, her hands and feet turned cold, and her body started to tremble.

The contents of the letter shocked her. It was clearly not meant for her but for Sterling.

However, the person who delivered the letter had specifically instructed it be given to Bella. Were they hoping she would uncover the truth?

Bella immediately thought back to that rainy night in Oakridge, when Caleb's words were interrupted by Sterling. She hadn't thought much of it at the time.

Now, it seemed Caleb had been trying to talk about this letter. Everything started to make sense.

Caleb had been adopted by Beck, who must have told him everything. No wonder every time she tried to find Beck, the clues mysteriously disappeared.

It was Caleb. He didn't want the truth to come out so quickly, so he moved Beck away.

Bella's hands shook as she opened the envelope.

Inside were several photos. She pulled them out and felt a chill run down her spine. They were photos of her and Micah in a hotel bed, and others with James.

Bella felt like she had fallen into an ice cellar, staring at the photos, unable to snap out of it.

No wonder, no wonder.

She heard hurried footsteps behind her, and a wave of fear surged in her heart.

Bella turned around in terror, her eyes filled with panic. She began to step back slowly.

Her cheeks were already wet with tears, the tracks clearly visible, silently telling of her inner pain and helplessness.

Sterling saw this and stopped in his tracks, letting go of the suitcase he was carrying.

He had planned to go on a business trip but had just come downstairs to see Bella standing still, facing away from him.

Sterling looked at Bella, the thing he had feared most had finally happened. His eyes quickly filled with pain, a complex emotion flashing through them.

When he saw the letter tightly held in Bella's hand, he knew everything could no longer be hidden.

Caleb, that cunning man, had found the opportunity to deliver the letter to Bella.

"Why?" Bella clutched the letter and photos, almost breaking her fingers. She tried to speak, but the words wouldn't come out coherently.

Bella's breathing became rapid and difficult, as if an invisible hand was choking her, making it hard to breathe.

Her vision started to blur, waves of darkness closing in, making it hard for her to stand.

Sterling stood still, not daring to approach her. His eyes were deep and complex, revealing a cautious expression.

He could only say in a low voice, "I'm sorry."

The words seemed to be squeezed out from the depths of his heart, filled with helplessness and apology.

Sorry? Bella heard his words, not even asking her any questions, just saying that.

This meant Sterling already knew the contents of the letter and acknowledged its truth?

Bella felt her legs weaken, almost unable to stand. She could only barely hold onto the stair railing to keep herself upright.

"You suddenly changed your attitude towards Caleb, agreed to give him the dock, even agreed to have dinner with him, because he had the letter and photos. Right?"

Bella's voice trembled with suspicion and anger. "You didn't want me to investigate the past because my dad was your scapegoat? You caused all those people to suffer back then, didn't you?"

Her words were filled with sarcasm and anger. Bella didn't know how to describe her feelings.

It was clear now that the letter must have come from Caleb. Bella wasn't stupid; she could clearly see the conspiracy and lies behind it all.

Bella vividly remembered the moment when Sterling unexpectedly found the letter Beck had sent. His reaction was unusually intense.

At the time, Bella thought Sterling just didn't want to bring up old memories, but now it seemed things were far more complicated.

Back then, she had been thrilled at the possibility that Lucas might be innocent, that she wouldn't have to stay by his side as a criminal.

However, Sterling's intense reaction was like a cold bucket of water, dousing her hopeful heart.

It turned out, behind all this, there were darker, unknown secrets!
