Chapter 302 I Am Such a Person
Owen felt a sting from Zoey's words.
He had lost his wife early on and never remarried, nor did he have any children. Her comment hit a sore spot, and he instinctively shot back, "Aren't you alone too?"
Realizing he had misspoken, Owen turned away awkwardly, choosing to remain silent.
Zoey, meanwhile, muttered to herself as she descended the stairs, "That old fool, tough on the outside but soft on the inside. He cares more than anyone."
Despite their playful banter, both Owen and Zoey felt deep sympathy and helplessness regarding Sterling and Bella's situation.
They knew some things were beyond their control, and all they could do was silently pray and hope for the best.
Zoey continued to the kitchen, throwing a parting shot at Owen, "At least I lost my husband later in life. Unlike you, all alone!"
Owen was left speechless by her remark and decided to ignore her. He straightened his jacket and headed upstairs to find Sterling.
"Mr. Windsor," Owen reported respectfully from behind Sterling, "Mrs. Windsor is currently staying at Mr. Rivera's Whitewater Bay villa. I've stationed guards around the villa; it's very secure. Do you have any further instructions?"
Sterling, now dressed in a suit, stood by the bed adjusting his cufflinks.
After a moment of silence, he spoke slowly, "No further instructions for now. Just ensure her safety. Have someone deliver desserts and afternoon tea daily. If there are guests, add extra portions accordingly. Make sure it's from the place she always likes."
Owen nodded in understanding and left the room. He knew Sterling appeared cold and indifferent, but his feelings for Bella ran deep.
As the butler, Owen understood his duty was to ensure Bella's safety, leaving the matters of the heart to those more adept.
Zoey busied herself in the kitchen, her mind occupied with concern for Sterling and Bella. She hoped they could resolve their issues and reunite.
After Owen left the room, Sterling was left alone, deep in thought.
Moments later, Sterling drove to the Windsor Group building to tackle his backlog of work.
Upon arriving at the building, Sterling smoothly exited his car and handed the keys to the security guard.
A scene on the sidewalk caught his attention—a senior citizen had fallen and was struggling to get up.
Sterling's first instinct was to help, but Bella's desperate plea echoed in his mind: "Stop pretending to be someone you're not!"
Her words struck him like a hammer, forcing him to reconsider his actions.
Was he being hypocritical? Should he, known for his cold and unfeeling nature, show kindness so easily?
After a moment of internal conflict, Sterling chose to turn away and walked into the building.
The security guard, eager to help, assisted the elderly person and ensured their safety.
Sterling's decision provided temporary relief from his guilt and inner turmoil.
He knew he had many issues to address, starting with a deep self-examination.
At the Whitewater Bay villa, Bella and Anna had just finished a playful tussle, leaving the living room in disarray with pillows and magazines scattered everywhere.
Fortunately, Colin wasn't home to nag about tidying up.
"Bella, now that you've left the Windsor Villa, what's your plan?" Anna asked.
Bella sighed softly, pondering for a moment before replying, "I haven't decided yet. I really don't want to stay in this city anymore. I want to go somewhere completely new and start over."
Anna's eyes lit up with excitement at Bella's words. She began to imagine the fresh start Bella described, her face showing envy.
"I want to go with you. Starting over sounds wonderful."
Anna had been trying to avoid thinking about certain things lately.
Bella, however, shook her head with a smile, knowing their situations were different. "You're not like me, Anna. You have your mom to take care of. If you leave, she'll be heartbroken."
Anna, exhausted and longing to escape, felt a pang of sadness as Bella's words sank in. She knew Bella was right; she couldn't abandon her family so easily.
The two friends fell into a brief silence, each contemplating their future paths.
Though they shared the same space, their destinies were leading them in different directions.
Bella smiled gently, her eyes reflecting a longing for a free life. "Yes, I'm alone. I can go wherever I want. Find a job to support myself, maybe open a small shop, live simply and freely. It sounds wonderful."
Anna was deeply inspired by Bella's vision, dreaming of a life without constraints.
In this city, she faced many unpleasant situations and people, and her mother, Qiana, could manage without her.
"Bella, you were learning to make desserts, right? How about we go to a new city together, open a dessert shop, sell coffee and tea? What do you think?"
Anna proposed eagerly, "My mom has some savings we can use to invest. You should decide soon!"
Bella hesitated, knowing this was a significant decision.
Leaving the city meant letting go of many things, including memories of her past and the most important person in her life, along with her beloved cat.
Thinking of Sterling, Bella felt a complex mix of emotions. She was surprised to find she no longer harbored any hatred towards him.
After all, he had cared for her for over a decade; how could she possibly hate him?
Taking a deep breath, Bella tried to calm her emotions. She knew she needed to carefully consider this decision, not act impulsively.
This was her chance for rebirth, her long-awaited freedom.
